Premier League Riders Championship - Sheffield 6th Sep

Recommended Posts

Dull as dishwater meeting - barely any passing all day & very disappointing all round.

Definitely needs to start later - track always seems grippier & produces better racing under the floodlights & when it isn't quite as warm. Been about 10 times this year to Owlerton & that was the worst meeting I've seen!!

Cook blew it by not taking red in the final - never give away gate 1 when u have 1st pick unless it's been an absolute graveyard all day.

Felt sorry for a few who deserved better. Kennett & Masters for their bike problems & Kurtz for his fall even tho it was his own fault.

Picked Wells as my outsider & he looked good all the way thru as did Andersson from Redcar - he was probs the biggest surprise all day.

That's okay if you live close, but it means a very late night / early morning for fans travelling any distance. If you want a night meeting better making it a Saturday.

Disappointing meeting, many people there but not much atmosphere unfortunately. Cookie should have taken gate 1 in the final...

I'm a sore loser.

Nothing wrong with that.

Just means we are competitive.

We can be magnanimous in defeat but still be sore losers.

Show me someone who's happy to lose and I'll show you a loser.

Anyway - check out the picture - it looks like someone who knows he has blown a good opportunity. It shows no more than that.

Nothing on the Rye web site regarding this although I did read that Bowen got hurt at Berwick, why is Maassen missing.

Both rider crashed on virtually the same bit of track, Bowen left the track by ambulance as was withdrawn from the meeting, Maasen walked back to the pits after treatment and was able to continue in the meeting.

Hope both riders are back very soon.

It would have to be at a different venue as well, if you want a Saturday night meeting.

Ulrich and Cookie were the two best from the qualifiers, so it was right that one of them won IMO. I know a Grand Final makes it more exciting, but personally I loathe that way of deciding a meeting.

I thought Brady Kurtz was very lucky to get up from that crash, as he seemed to somersault over the handlebars and then his bike landed behind him.

Sympathies also to Edward Kennett, with his bike failing at the start of the semi final, bit of an expensive weekend for him as I was told (and some people on here of course would have seen it) later on that he'd also blown an engine at Berwick the night before!

Congratulations to Ulrich on his win.

Did anyone have trouble with the attitude of the "you will not bring any food or drink into the stadium " bag searches ? Why I ask is the lady behind me in the queue was told Very abruptly to put her food and drink back in her car or she would not get in even though she said she was on a special diabetic diet and the food she had to have was not on sale in the stadium. On complaining to the " head " of the security he said that it would have been ok for her to take in her food. Talk about left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing !! We all know that the speedway rents the stadium and that this the owners rules but do they have to be so dogmatic with it or are they just hard up and see this as a way to make money at the expense of others.

Cook could have put aside his disappointment and showed respect to the other riders in the photo, it costs nothing to smile even if you dont really feel like it, im sure he would of expected the same had he won it

Can't Sheffield do Saturday nights? If not it would be a pity. Been a couple of times for the PLRC and I think it's the ideal venue.

I believe Owlerton is owned by the casino (Dave Allen) next door (A & S Leisure, I think they are called) and they prefer to put Greyhounds on in preference to Speedway. Greyhounds run on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday.

Edward had no blown engine at Berwick. His Heat 1 withdrawal was not mechanical. Same bike in all his races.

Everything was great yesterday - stadium was its usual high standard, good entertainment, good sound system and a great crowd.. Just a shame the racing was a bit dull. Agree that the atmosphere was also very quiet for some reason, seemed like loads of people there but not really cheering for anyone!

I personally thought Ulrich deserved to win, was the most consistant all day and certainly looked like it meant a lot to him. Cookie didnt look himself, seemed like he put himself under a lot of pressure and out thought himself for the final. Thought Well's would be a spooler and he certainly was, rode really well and well cheered on by about the only noisy fan base from Worky.

Track seemed good, but I thought all the constant tractor racing just left it at a level playing field and once riders were out in front, that seemed to be that. Maybe leaving a better dirt line to develop would of helped the racing.

Looking forward to the play offs now.

And in the Semi, he dropped a chain before the start. Who didn't put the clip on the chain link ?
