Warnings - Why Not Public

Recommended Posts

Following last nights Sky match little has been said about Cook being excluded for "delaying the start" twice.

What concerns me is that it appears no one apart from those in the refs box knew he had been warned after the first attempted start. Not only is that ridiculous from the point of view of the rider, why warn him if he isn't told about it (i.e. he isn't actually warned), his manager, the person who might just tell him to be a bit more careful second time around is also unaware. What kind of sport are we watching here!

The biggest concern is the lack of info for the crowd (you know the ones, they pay to get in). They have a right to know, not as much as the rider maybe but they still should know. Every other sport I can think of makes it very clear to spectators that a participant has been warned (Tennis, Footie, Rugby etc).

Folk often moan that there is no atmosphere at speedway well here's one small way to inject some, Make sure warnings are loud and clear and let the fans react.

What is even worse is that the rider does not have the option of a 15yard handicap, or the team putting in a reserve rider. If you go through the tapes it amounts to just as much a delay, as in the eyes of the ref a false start, as the tapes have to be replaced.

That may be the case but it doesn't appear to have worked last night and doesn't tell the PAYING public.

last night it appears that the only people in the stadium who knew of the warning were in the refs box. That's not acceptable.

Having not watched the meeting on tv, and not going to suffering it, I would say to us in the stand, that Cook deserved to be booted out of the heat. It was clear that on the first attempt he was moving and everyone in the grandstand noticed it. So did the ref. He then did exactly the same thing the second time. Easy to look at slow mo replays on tv and for it to look ok but in real time he moved on both occassions and everyone in the grandstand reacted both times. Only time it happened in the meeting. He was still in his other rides.

IMO and most in the grandstand, the ref got it right. Excluded for delaying the start.

Blue glasses again.

Anderson also moved.

And your eyesight is better than slo-mo's from all angles?

So Steve you sat in the stand were you aware that Cook had been warned after the first start and if you were how were you informed.

It's one thing fans thinking a rider has moved but quite another for a rider to get a warning which if repeated could have a massive impact on the result of a match given no replacement is allowed, not that it affected last nights result.

It's said that start marshals tell the rider, it would cost about a tenner to provide a card (like the joker in SWC) that the start Marshall or his assistant could show both the rider and the crowd

stop talking out of your backside. The whole thread is full of people who watched it on the tv and watched the replays that Sky musy have showed a dozen times.

In the first attempt Cook DID NOT move. It was a perfect start , but then again you are so biased towards your own team its laughable.

Try reading the thread , try watching the replays because quite simply you are making yourself look silly by saying that Cook should have been excluded.

You think that being there its easier to judge than seeing lots of replays?? Your eyesight must be amazing!!

The second time he jumped spot on.

The first time he didnt.

I suggest to save yourself from embarrassment and other people putting you straight that you watch the video

Cook did move on both occasions. The ref, like us at home, had the benefit of the slow motion replay and he was moving on both occasions. Just because he only moved slightly before the tapes on the first start doesn't mean he wasn't moving.

Give the starting marshall red and yellow cards.

Yellow card for Cook - cheers from the crowd.

Good fun, and no doubt about the situation.

Precisely.

So simple and cheap it will never be adopted.

BTW folks this thread is about warnings not whether a rider did or did not move, there's a match thread for that.

Thought Cooks first Start was exceptional and it just goes to show again that they need to have a look at the rules and technology.

At Ipswich they have a "warning" board that's held up in front of the offending rider and big enough for everyone to see.

It was a great start.....................unless you had the miraculous vision of the grandstand who in a split second all determined he jumped.

Guess its easier to the naked eye than watching loads of replays!!

Belle Vue deserved winners after Cooks exclusion and Bjarne being so injured after sliding off at 2mph and staying down.
