Crazy robin

Swindon Robins Vs Wolves (29-6-17)

Recommended Posts

Yes 38-39 R/R Briggo Mauger 11. Olsen Paid11 both beaten by Broadbank Newcastle then had two strong reserves Dave Gifford and Alan Jay they scored 13 between them.

In those days wouldn't it have just been 1 reserve ?

Agree totally & yet again Rosco is showing an incompetence to the rules.

No way should Nick be racing & he's just worried his team of reserves will be thrashed.

How we have Dany in the top 5 & not been replaced yet is shocking.

Sounds like Rosco is running the Swindon team about as well as he is running Team GB this year!

Spot on Beowulf" a funny format i wonder why? just thought Newcastle at 6/7 with Gifford and Jay looked strong Jay being the only reserve.

Spot on "Beowulf" a funny format why was that ? only thirteen heats what hit me was at number 6/7 Gifford /Jay for Newcastle looked really strong.

I first started going at the back end of 1967 and just remember the 1 reserve format. Two reserves seems to be a 'modern' invention but it's probably many decades old. Need a speedway historian. One of the early matches I attended at Monmore was against Swindon and I was rather annoyed that we couldn't beat some bloke called Briggs who won all 4 of his races. LOL.😂

When you look at that Wolves team, vs that Swindon team, you just fear a massacre.

I started going in 69 and the reserve format 6/7/6/7' race was there then, v Halifax at home Boocock beat Briggs in heat 1 and again in the Silver Sash that stuck in my mind not many beat Briggo at the Abbey then.

Yes agree totally & maybe this season his loyalty to certain riders could cost him at least one job.

I have to agree with Rosco on this, it's a joke that you can't have a guest for an injured rider because they are in positions 2-5 yet wolves who have a double up rider can bring in King & Starke at reserve for their injured rider. Nick is key to our side & without him we weakened massively. I don't blame Nick or Swindon in trying to have him passed fit although I can't see the bspa allowing it.

David Howe said a few weeks ago at Berwick that he felt ok to ride but was out for 9 days.

He also said that it is probably a good thing in hindsight (to protect him from racing when possibly not quite right).

A lot would depend on who decided 9 days out for concussion, if it was a few of the bspa then it is questionable, if a concussion specialist then it should be the period specified. Apparently Nick has been seen by a doctor so the decision should be up to the doctor if he feels Nick is ok to ride.

It does seem daft about not being able to bring in a second guest if the manager chooses.

Howarth's average is 6.79. (Green sheet issue 15.) Danny King's average is 6.72.

Quite right, I was looking at the team statistics page in error (marked, to my shame, in large type "These are not official green sheet averages"!)

Don't get me wrong, any head injury needs to be treated carefully & if the rules are 9 days rest then so be it (I do wonder whether the FIM follow the same rules as come Saturday Nick will have only missed 8 days). My point is that a guest should be allowed. He's our 2nd best rider, put points on his average & losing him to R/R isn't fair IMO

Most doctors would stick with him not riding ..most sports like Horse racing etc have these rules in place on concussion that are no doubt based on medical guidelines in the first place

As I said if the doctor said no then fine, they are the experts.
