Ipswich V Peterborough Ko Cup Final 2nd Leg 26-10-17@7-30ish

Recommended Posts

Such bad luck for Ipswich, the rules are the same for both teams.

Technically there are, but no doubt the rule makers will be tweeking the rule that screwed Ipswich over the two legs. Had a top P'boro rider got injured then he could have been replaced by other decent riders, but an Ipswich rider got injured in both legs, but we couldn't replace them with adequate replacements.

I thought this was the worst I'd felt after a meeting, but then I recalled Oxford all those years ago.

For younger readers, we needed a 5-1 in the last heat to win the cup, Cook and Doncaster gated and it was nailed on, then Cook made a stupid mistake, took Donkey out, they got a 3-3, and the ignorant Yank was doing wheelies.

TBH if Sedge wasn't being such an utter idiot and not riding when he clearly can, you could have had IRR and then won that way. We can only beat what's infront of us.

Totally agree, not having a go at your lot, but I'm almost certain this rule will be changed at the AGM.

The rule as written is designed to prevent a ‘tactical withdrawal’ of an under-performing rider to avoid the three-rides rule. Unlikely to be changed I would suggest.

Great Atmosphere - unlucky witches - losing Danny King was the turning point..

Well done you Panthers - shame BWD turned up - looked like he was going through the motions to try and build bridges..

Ben Barker - who would ever have guessed? will he be back at Panthers in 2018 if we run.. ?

Does Scotty get both a winners and runners up medal? :D

Panthers would most likely not have won but for Danny King being injured but he was and we did. Most pleasing thing was that other than BWD every Panther stepped up to the mark when the chips were down. It is not often that has happened.

Both Panthers visits to Ipswich this season ended in easy wins for the witches if you remove Kings scores from the two matches witches would of still won, so it shows the Panthers riders improved performance on the night and whos to say King may of not got the points expected of him similar to Holders 3pts at home in the semis v Glasgow

Seems sensible.

Did Redcar have a conference league rider for someone who went back to Australia or was it for someone else (they had that many missing it was hard to tell)?

KO CUP FINAL REACTION:

image.jpgSupport was ‘awesome’ says skipper Ulrich Ostergaard (right) and Ipswich captain Danny King with the SGB Championship KO Cup. Peterborough Panthers captain Ulrich Ostergaard spoke of his delight after leading the club to another major crown. The Danish ace lifted the SGB Championship KO Cup last night (October 26) after Panthers triumphed 92-88 on aggregate against East Anglian rivals Ipswich. Panthers fans at the KO Cup final. It completed an honours double this season after an August success in the SGB Championship Fours and means Ostergaard has now starred in four trophy successes for the club. He was part of the team which famously won the Elite League back in 2006 and he also claimed the individual riders’ title in the second tier back in 2015. Ostergaard said: “We all race speedway to win trophies and to have lifted two of them in the same season is a great achievement.“It was fantastic to win the Fours on our own track during the summer and to add another piece of silverware against our local rivals is brilliant.“We left ourselves with a huge job to do in the second leg after allowing Ipswich to come back at us so strongly at our place last Sunday.“A lot of people didn’t think a four-point lead would be enough, but we were determined to win the trophy. “We’re one big family and we had awesome support in both legs. We also had a bit of luck in both meetings with important Ipswich riders getting injured, but that happens in speedway sometimes.“The league didn’t go to plan for us, but it has to go down as a great season after winning the Fours and the KO Cup. It’s great to have this success for the management and the fans.”But Ostergaard was left frustrated not to wrap up the latest triumph himself. He was stuck at the back in heat 14 when unable to find a way past Ipswich reserve Connor Mountain in a race won by Simon Lambert. Third place for Ostergaard would have sealed Panthers’ success, but instead they had to survive a last-heat decider when Chris Harris and Ben Barker successfully avoided being on the received end of a 5-1.“It was so frustrating to be last in heat 14,” added Ostergaard. “I completely messed up the start and Ipswich is such a hard track to pass on.“But we knew we had a four-point lead on aggregate and thankfully Bomber (Chris Harris) and Ben (Barker) were able to finish the job in the last race.“It would have been horrible to lose a cup final in our last meeting of the season, but now we can look back happy!”The celebrations will continue tonight when Panthers stage their end-of-season bash at the Post Office Club on Bourges Boulevard.

We had to use David Wallinger for Ellis Perks because he went home before the season ended

Big crowd at ippo last night. Reminded me of the good Friday clashes with Hackney & lynn. It certainly was a tense finish, and good viewing as a neutral.

Good point, I'd (stupidly) forgotten that our sport is full of cheats, or people that manipulate the rules if you prefer. In that case let teams have a guest, if they go with R/R then it's tough if a rider gets injured, but if you're prepared to pay a bit more to get a guest in, then you should be allowed.

Get shot of both rr and the guest rule. Hit the club's when they have riders that don't fancy it. If clubs are riding on set night's getting guests will be harder anyways.
