Baldyman 6,243 Posted November 20, 2017 But what happens next season when this year's crop finish with an average over 8??? They will need to change the rules again.. What's the matter with these dumb xxxxx in charge. Just make some decent rules and stick to them
The Observer 55 Posted November 20, 2017 Restricting teams to one 8.0+ rider is dumbing the product down and bringing the Premiership/Chamionship even closer together. If they're looking to level the teams out in the Premiership, once each No 1 has been signed, they might just as well introduce an NFL type draft system with last season's bottom club getting first choice. Complete nonsense.

What's the matter with these dumb xxxxx in charge. Just make some decent rules and stick to them This is the problem. It's not a rule based on anything other than teams without a decent number trying to get hold of one from another team. It's not a proper rule at all, and also specifically targets certain teams which is not a fair way to go about things.
racerback 36 Posted November 20, 2017 thought we wanted to entice the top riders back to the league then restrict the number you can have with a stupid one rider over 8 rule well done british speedway
Haza 1,774 Posted November 20, 2017 Which would be bad business sense when the product is getting worse. Another question is, will BT want to show a league that consistently and purposefully, dumbs down its product each year? [/quote ) spot on but they are going to have to make the short fall up one way or another. Yet again another conference with nothing to address the falling attendances. And again a watered down product year on year
Steve Shovlar 10,439 Posted November 20, 2017 Overall sounds a decend agm. Dont like t/s in heat 14. Guess the one over8 is to stop clubs grabbing two over 8s while another club cant attract one. Sounds fair.
Woz01 3,589 Posted November 20, 2017 To be honest the 1 over 8 rule shouldn't stop the League improving its quality. There are 7 riders over 8 who rode here last season and the ones over 8 that didnt wouldnt ride here next season anyway. There are a few quality riders under 8 who didn't ride here last season: Woffinden Pawlicki x2 Kildemand Lindback Zagar Milik Przedpelski Jepsen Jensen Lebedevs Sundstrom And others. The problem with the rule is that it didn't need to be made anyway. Fans now think it's stopping the top coming over when the reality is Polish rules would stop most.
psycho3a 101 Posted November 20, 2017 At the latest averages there is 8 teams in the Premiership and only 7 riders exceeding 8 pts, whats the issue ?? any riders who have previously ridden in the uk or new riders could be given an assesed 7.50 which gets around the issue of keeping top riders out of the top league
TonyE 822 Posted November 20, 2017 For 2017. there were only seven riders finishing on 8 or above. Four teams, Kings Lynn, Leicester, Rye House and Somerset had none. Belle Vue, Swindon and Wolves need to 'release' one as they each had two. It would be interesting to learn it the promotors of those three were outvoted on the proposal. KN1 168 Posted November 20, 2017 Imagine how much a rider on 7.75 - 7.99 can demand and get for his services. He'll get what is offered same as any job, if he don't like he doesn't get the job, you seem to have real problem with riders wages at the end of the day most riders are sensible otherwise they don't get a job.

If you have 42.5 points then build your team to that mark without restriction. The skill of the Manager is tested.
capone 35 Posted November 20, 2017 unless the rules are changed again for 2019, there could be some riders manipulating their averages so they are not unemployed in this country cos they are "over the eight"

BWitcher 12,453 Posted November 20, 2017 Maybe Swindon should drop down to The Championship. Their top two - which is too strong for the top league - is allowed in the lower league. Genius. Pretty sure the rule means 1 over 8 on the lower league averages. Riders 'dropping down' would be converted.

Sounds fair. What particularly frustrates me about the over 8 rule is that, presumably, Poole and Leicester would have voted for it. I would have hoped Poole would have been more positive in it, but presumably based it purely on their own team building fans, and Leicester because they, themselves, went out and got themselves a decent number one from the GP but have effectively stopped anyone else doing so.
