If I say there are 4 nations fighting for the top 3 spots, how many of them has good enough of a U21 rider? What cost implications? If one of our top2 gets injured, we might as well stay home. We have no good enough U21 riders. Well Poland, Russia, Denmark, Sweden USA, GB, Latvia, France, Australia and the Czech Rep all have a U21 rider that is half decent- which leaves 5 teams who might struggle. Prize money is rubbish and far better to split between 2 seniors and a U21 than 3 seniors !

But thats the problem! Should anything happen to the top 2, most teams have to rewrite their plans to succeed as their reserve U21 is well out of his depth. Finland as a prime example. For fear of repeating myself, unless there is a major hike in the prize fund the tournament cannot support teams of 3 senior riders. If you take the published prize money and work out that this has to cover riders wages, hotels, travel, team managers, mechanics for 3 meetings it’s just ridiculous. For 2019 that has to include travelling to Russia !!!!

Not even Team Finland. and besides, who says the U21 rider has mechanics for free and they sleep together in the van. 4free.
