Deano 1,318 Posted October 17, 2023 That’s AEPG’s only funding stream I believe.
Method 21 Posted October 17, 2023 (edited) Not quite. Whilst amazing news for residents, this doesn't involve the speedway and is separate from the development plans. Still, a great step in the right direction! Edited October 17, 2023 by Method
JoeW436 595 Posted October 17, 2023 Would loved to have seen Butterfield’s face. Well done to all involved.

Still, a great step in the right direction! It was a great starter indeed to get sight of the opposition; and they didn't do themselves any favours in terms of their attitude, presentation and attention to detail. Peterborough Speedway was mentioned 4 times and the committee was keen to deflect away from it (not relevant here) although they know that it's coming with 10x the number of objections that seemed to register significantly for this application, which should have been relatively for straightforward AEPG. Lack of trust was clearly big issue so trying to convince the planning and environmental committee that AEPG are competent enough to deliver their brochure is going to be some conjuring trick: From the ET factfile: Ashley added: “We believe the leisure aspect of the Showground will attract a far broader audience compared with the targeted audiences that the events held over the last few years. “We are also providing facilities and services, amenities and activity that is far more focused on the Peterborough community.”

Mick Bratley 474 Posted October 17, 2023 It wasn’t noticed by everyone but Councillor Stevenson was wearing a Panther brooch.
OldNutter 48 Posted October 17, 2023 Well done everyone. The training and sharing seems to have succeeded this time at least. Good Start. How long have they got to get out of their unapproved property out? At least the cold weather will stop the grass growing when they have gone, so will not need as many goats and cows to keep it down for a few months.

Sully 274 Posted October 18, 2023 I would assume they will appeal and submit a revised application using a different entrance? Unsure of the details why this wasn’t done in the first instance. Interesting that Butterfield mentioned a number of events they are planning to hold at the showground. Unfortunate that he couldn’t name one of those though…. credit again to Julie Stephenson (and the local MP) for shoehorning the speedway into the meeting even though not relevant to this application. Keeps the pressure and awareness up.

Sale of the land is expected to be approved by Spring 2024, again subject to planning approval. Battlestations everyone. AEPG may have lost a little battle here at the moment but the entire EoES campaign is a totally different prospect. Given the way that they seemingly slipped in information late on this application (giving little to no time for challenge), we can expect plenty of that with their unwanted cash cow. There is only one other entrance they can use and they definitely did not want to use it, even the planning officers emailed them months ago suggesting it would be a better approach. I think the reason they didn’t want to use this entrance was because that will be the entrance they will use for development as their plans for the first set of houses are close to it. Development traffic and HGV trailers using the same road would undoubtedly see a reaction from residents and businesses that currently use that road access. They are now in breach of their contract with DHL I would suggest. DHL must be wondering who the hell they have got into bed with following yesterday’s umm oh er umm er performance from the AEPG CEO. It was interesting to see him first time having to back up his rhetoric rather than just spouting it as fact and the way it is. The challenges on community engagement (and the bloke behind doing the Pinocchio impression ) and Peterborough jobs in the PE area (which stretches far and wide over 39 districts) were particularly interesting. If he/AEPG wants to claim that the many objections to their applications are from outside Peterborough (if they are?) then we'll have to use the PE postcode area (which includes Kings Lynn which is interesting?) as our marker.
