Polish Extraleague Round 5 Fri/Sun 17th/19th May Live on TV

Recommended Posts

Absolutely torrential here in Wroclaw, with much worse to come overnight and tomorrow.

Right decision to call it off early.. :(

This is my understanding of the Polish 6 team play-offs- Extraleague and Div 1
At the end of the regular season 1 v 6, 2 v 5, and 3 v 4
The matches are decided on aggregate scores over the 2 legs
This is taken from the rules(translated)
2. The tiebreaker is decided in the following order:
1) higher sum of match points,
2) a greater sum of running points,
3) a higher position in the final table after the main part of the competition.
The 3 winning teams are put in an order- which is determined by the above rule(2) and the losing teams are also put in order using the same method.
the semi`s are then contested by( using the new list)
1 v Best loser(4)
2 v 3
Winners contest the final and losers(Extraleague) 3rd/4th play-off.

What a farce imo! Leszno in the end of season playoff? Top 4 should suffice.

No, because it makes commercial sense, and it actually works quite good as it is, with six teams contesting the first round to extend the playoffs and create another six meetings for tv !

Oh right so we can suffer another one sided tie? Leszno should not be in any championship play off this year.

When it goes commercial it loses me.

Tonight is Lukas Fienhage's debut in the Ekstraliga.

By the way, Fienhage has been (accidentally) left out of the German SWC squad by our new team managers Dörner and Bartz. Weird story how they messed this up!

How the hell do they accidentally leave him out? Did they just forget about his existence?? I thought it was strange for him not to be in the squad...

But it does make commercial sense, and that is important, too.

Anyway, Leszno are much improved now that their injury crisis is behind them. I would not discout them, although Wroclaw of course are the big favorites in this tie.

Wrocław v Leszno over 2 legs this season 94-86

Wrocław v Torun over two legs 109-71

Wrocław v Czestochowa 97-83

Wrocław v Gorzow 96-84

Wrocław v Lublin still to be completed

Of the 6 playoff teams, not counting Lublin, Leszno have the highest aggregate score v Wrocław.

I think that blows your theory out the window.

You have missed the point I was trying to make....

My theory is based on the premise that you have an 8 team division - yes? Yet you can finish 6th and contest the championship playoff?

I take Bavarian's point it is commercial etc etc.

Hahaha, now let me quote you again verbatim: "Oh right so we can suffer another one sided tie?"

I answered your point directly. Now you try to deflect things by talking about something else...Of course it's commercial. But based on the scores between Wrocław and Leszno this season, as I showed you, Leszno fully deserve their playoff tie v Wrocław. They are also the only team thus far this year to beat Wrocław.

Not sure what is so funny?

6th should not be in title play offs, just like in the UK. My opinion it is a farce.

Will not mention it again

Two  top  leagues in the world have it- Poland and Sweden. The Swedes are OK with top 2 not involved until Semi stage, Poland not. I prefer the Swedish model but if the Polish league clubs wan’t to include all the teams then i say let them get on with it .
