Did Newcastle have Speedway track covers?

I assume, The covers covered the greyhound track surface to prevent shale getting on it, if you don’t have speedway, you don’t need to protect the greyhound surface from flying shale.

Try going to perry barr where the covers have to be down before any track work can start & be removed and put away after the meeting. Not a rider in sight!!

Every time there is a rain-off or a threatened rain-off, the subject of track covers comes up.

Yes, using track covers can save a meeting sometimes, but unfortunately, people just won't come out when the weather is doubtful, so would it be worthwhile spending time and money laying covers and saving a threatened meeting, if the turnout was going to be poor?

Yes. Midland Development League, Redcar v Brummies. Followed by 125 competition.

There is junior racing every week at Redcar, either NJL, individual and now MDL as well.

Any reason why we didn't use a T/S in Heat 6 to replace Proctor ?

Does the manager actually follow the scores during the meeting?

At that stage Sedgmen was the only Brummie to have won a heat, probably wanted to use the t/s to give him an extra heat, he was also in heat 6, so waiting for another opportunity.

Who would you have swapped him for though at that point in the meeting? Easy to say Cook now, but Zach Cook scored 1 in his first ride, Morris had 0 in heat 5, Bowtell did ok with 2 seconds, but otherwise Proctor was on paid 2 from 1 ride. Sedgy was already in the heat, and nobody was embarrassed in those heats they were all pretty close / competitive.

And the proof that waiting benefited us???

There's no proof either way, a team managers job is to weigh up options, I certainly agree with not using the t/s in heat 6.

With hindsight you could say they should have but Sedgmen in heat 7 ahead of Nielsen - if Sedgmen wins that heat they'd get a 4-2 instead of a 3-3 (2 point gain).

Whoever you put in heat 6, might have beaten Hume but likely wouldn't have beaten Lawson, so again at best they'd be turning a 3-3 into a 4-2.

However doing that would've likely meant using Proctor instead of Pearson in heat 12 (or 14) for his 3rd ride, if he loses to Mulford, the points gained by the tac sub are lost!

I disagree... proctor couldve been used to replace Nielsen in a later heat...(just to make the numbers up) sometimes a R/S can be used in a strong race just to complete his quantity of rides...it doesn't have to all be about taking a heat advantage.
