Peterborough Speedway - petition

Sadly, though petitions are all well and good and I've happily signed it, it's the equivalent of shouting against thunder.  Its money that's needed to fight off the developers, not signatures.  Unless speedway in the UK starts standing up fir itself a little bit more, more clubs will follow Peterborough and Wolves into having to watch from the sidelines

It still sends a message on the strength of feeling for any backers that may want to get involved. If the numbers show that nobody gives a toss... nobody's going to give a toss

So again, like Wolverhampton et all, we have a perfectly usable facility we are fighting to keep. The sport then has to find/build another usable facility while the current one gets built on. It’s such a backward world.

I'll do this today... But I'm wondering if the current petition standing at less that 1,500 signatures could actually do more harm than good. Any developer would surely use this as evidence that there is no appetite for Speedway in Peterborough?

It's not recognised by PCC so is not evidence for anyone in any respect.

Apparently a PCC e-petition will be forthcoming and that will be recognised, be important and hopefully do some damage.

Now, I know this has only been running for a few days but this petition is only at 670 at the moment and that quite frankly is pathetic! Wolves was up in the thousands after a similar amount of time. Maybe because Wolves came as such a shock and Peterborough has been a bit of a slow burner for a few years.

Coventry raised their £20k in a matter of days

Maybe there's just no appetite for Speedway in Peterborough?

Why has there been no outcry about the loss of Peterborough Speedway? Nothing on their website, nothing on the BSPL website, Godfrey gone missing (again!)... what's going on?

Was talking to a Peterborough supporter at the recent Fenland Flyer grasstrack meeting at Woodwalton, Cambridgeshire. He said most fans are resigned to the end of speedway at the Showground, and indicated the promotion wasn't bothered about continuing - there or anywhere else in the area.

Only because that's the message being pumped out for that last 6 months. A significant number of fans are now realising that it's not a done deal and that a promotion can't negotiate with those who don't wish to negotiate or make unreasonable demands. The gloves are off now and there is something to fight for.

The apathy is quite unbelievable!

Blame the promoters for that and the governing authorities.. people pay through the gate, they raise money for Ben fund, used to be collected from the crowd back in the day, people give up their time to help in the off season etc.. sponsor a rider.. and so on. You can’t expect people to keep stepping up when the general consensus is the promoters don’t.
