Who 'wrote' the rules? Oxford didn't meet Redcar so let's use a different rule from the one used to  determine the other semi.

Well they couldn’t use the same rule could they, so I’m not sure what you expect them to do?

They could use the same rule though, that's the point!

So why didn't Poole put a fit rider in.

Ben Cook is a great little rider. His brother ain't too shabby. Why not use Zach, Kyle or Anders at least those three are actual racers.

Anders is at Cardiff

Zach is spannering for Ben

If the teams rode against each other then the winners of that heat would go through (which is fairer than a coin toss?)

Redcar and Oxford didn’t race again each other so it was a coin toss. Seems fair enough to me.

Where's the consistency?

From the regulations

016.2.2 Racing Format
To be confirmed.
016.2.3 Racing Regulations
Starting offences for the 1st offence, the offending rider will be handicapped
as per these Regulations. For a 2nd offence for the same rider then that
rider will be disqualified.
Where there is a tie for the semi final qualification, a two way tie will be
decided by the result in which the pair met, highest score. If more than a
two way tie or the pair have not met then the team with the highest scoring
heat results (7-2, 7-0, 6-3, 5-4, 4-5, 3-6) will qualify and if still not resolved,
then by ballot.
Regardless of helmet colours each pair can switch programmed gate
positions between themselves.
Heat points for this event will be 4, 3, 2, 0.
In the case of an abandonment and the event is not re-staged the result will
be taken from the completion of heat 9 as this is where all teams had
completed the same number of heats.

A rare thing in life. Or Speedway.

Can't think of many other sports that have different rules to decide the same thing

There's been some really great speedway after a dodgy start and despite some dodgy rules and refereeing!

If only the sport was administered properly...
