The problem is that even if they are genuine results and not dodgy ones people have already made up their minds and the conflict of interest is already established. Thick skins and ducks backs may be required come the latter stages of the season. Would never advocate any kind of skullduggery of course, unless it screws Poole over7 points

If any dodgy results to get one team into the playoffs takes place the other teams can always appeal to the head of the bspa5 points

£10 to watch NDL racing on one of the top three tracks in the world, in the comfort of a modern stadium... £15 to watch NDL racing on a slightly below average track, in a reasonably decent stadium... Some fans are getting a better deal than others3 points

I have reasoned this before. I even wondered how long it will be before they rename the league as the CHAPMANSHIP3 points

quite agree, i think it is essential that when a speedway club holds a public meeting for supporters that everything is kept secret,we dont want every tom, dick or harry in the area hearing about poole speedway3 points

I know it's a pain for you,but it may have made someone's day who is at work on nights.I get pretty peed when i'm working and there are fixtures i miss i must admit. But only 4 years 9 months and 17 days and i'm taking early retirement so should be able to watch all matches, providing speedway is still about then2 points

Don't think the availability of guests will be an issue. That will be down to the individual riders themselves if they want to take a booking or not..Having said that not too many riders seem to like to take guest bookings nowadays, must be down to their workload what with all the doubling up and other countries. There are obviously some that will,Harris being one.2 points

Whilst i accept that many clubs are struggling financially Kent have turned a profit every year and are able to top up rider packages with sponsored extras. Uncle Len using examples like Kemps kevlars cost him double what they did last year so need increases etc is baloney. They cost double because he went somewhere more expensive/took up the optional extras. If Kent/Len want to throw funding behind riders to help them progress quicker then fine but don't force the additional costs on to the paying public.2 points

100% a conflict of interest with out doubt - even avalibllity of guests could be an issue remember Buster has control of 21 riders . The whole thing stinks - yes he probably saved the league and possibly two clubs but at what cost to speedway in general?2 points

Then there was Max Schreck, who starred as the original Nosferatu... He would probably have scored more points for us - certainly a team spot would have been something to get his teeth into... Steve2 points

It's only a pound more at some Championship clubs. Len has truly lost his marbles. The sport is heading one way, into oblivion.2 points

15 blinking quid to get in at Kent this year! Fair play to those who can sustain the constant rises but personally i will be attending very few meetings at that rate. More likely spending my money at Eastbourne at the next level up for just a quid more. Poor reasoning too, riders costs have gone up because they have allowed them to, its not the fans fault that riders choose to have new race suits, bikes, engines every season but they are the ones being hit in the pocket.2 points

After all the hassle with Jack Holder, Torun & Buster interfering, plus Busters own agenda with Chris Holder, is anybody really surprised that Ged don't want to work with him ?2 points
-
Don't people see that there was a six week gap between Harris signing for Peterborough before the decision was made to axe him being just a little bit suspicious and losing Ged through this has also cost them the main team sponsor as well who had already pledged to a continuation for 2019.2 points

Spot on , it's just a cover up for the truth , part of the deal is Rathbone and Watson must remain tight lipped and not tell the real truth and Chapman now thinks everything in the garden is rosy , I for one don't believe that there is a great deal of difference between the Harris and Tungate potential earnings this move was more for the benefit to suit Ipswich who had a problem finding a suitable NO;1. Sorry Buster Chapman I don't buy your bull 5hit.2 points

Looking forward to getting a first glimpse of the new set up myself......I used to get het up about which type of meeting it was, now I am just happy to see some speedway after months of being shut in !1 point

It's not so much that he saved the league - but seemingly, saved the league on domestic TV. The Premier League could have run with 6 / 5 / 4 clubs ( if the BSPA so decided ). It does stink that Mr Chapman controls three clubs and 21 + riders. He will, before long, have majority control and then what he says becomes The Way of "top: league UK speedway as it crumbles to ashes in his hands.1 point

Pretty certain all health and safety issues have been addressed accordingly but I'm sure the club and contractors appreciate the concern.....1 point

Is Len going to guarantee we get to watch 15 heats every week for our 15 quid, somehow i don't think so.1 point

No animosity apparently. Would be nice to think that people can move on and forward in a positive manner, good results and action on track will help to that end. Despite the local rivalry I’d like to see Peterborough (and Ipswich) do well this year, apart from the occasions they race against Lynn of course.1 point

It was The Crown in Little Missenden, Steve. We used to go there and play darts with Jim Tebby. Ron was the manager before buying the pub, and as far as I know, it is still run by his son Trevor. Steve1 point

Was there even a ‘job’ for Ged and/or Watson. Once Busters boy Pratty was brought in, then it was a done deal.1 point

I saw both these riders in action but more so Brian Crutcher. Brian retired when still very young (25 I think) he lost interest in Speedway due to business demands and as he would later say the closure of Wembley. He was when focussed the match of the top riders of the day Fundin, Moore, Briggs Craven etc. I believe he has subsequently said that he suffered nerves on the big occasions which handicapped him in top individual events. There is a fairly recent Biography of him which will give more details I will PM the title etc when I locate the book which I have somewhere1 point

I was always puzzled as a youngster about Garry Steve, because he seemed a happy go lucky chap when i see him ride.I have his prized autograph and always thought his reputation was false. In a way just like Jack Millen he had a fearsome reputation but people have commented on just how nice a guy Jack was he was great for helping young riders.Back to Middleton Steve how good was he ? you would know more than me on that score. He was really good for Oxford fast and aggressive it is such a shame how his life ended up.1 point

Very sad to hear of John Chaplin's passing. He was, like myself, a lifelong Birmingham supporter, but his reporting was always impartial and his many speedway books were always interesting reading. He and I both rode for the same Cycle Speedway club - Birmingham Lions (who in more recent years changed its name to Sandwell). I started riding in 1953 when I was 13 when John was one of the leading riders in the club, but as a beginner, I was in awe of the senior club members and didn't really get to know him then. Later on, through our mutual love of all things "Brummies" we became good friends. I knew that he was battling against a very painful illness, but didn't realise that the end was so close. John will be sorely missed by not just those who knew him personally, but by everyone connected with speedway. Rest in the peace of the Lord John - and thank you for your friendship.1 point

There’s every chance Ipswich had money left in their budget and Harris deal was re-negiogated so he is on far less at Ipswich then he was at Peterborough.1 point

Or is it something to do with the relationship between Chris Louis and Tungate?1 point
-
Yes we will get behind him but respecting each other is a two way thing . Rightly or wrongly i expect his machinery to but up to scratch as a minimum . To be fair i do not think that David Mason would tolerate such poor machinery and preparation to often.1 point
-
Confirmation of what was largely known already although confirmation that Tungate is notably cheaper than Harris is quite alarming because i doubt Rohan comes that cheap so Bomber must be raking it in once again.1 point

For the work Dennis has done over the years, much of it un-noticed, Berwick Rangers and Berwick Speedway owe him a huge debt of gratitude. As you say a gentleman.1 point

Are you really a Belle Vue fan, or are you another forum member posing under another name? Why are going on about the stadium like you are? Swindon fans know there are concerns, but we don't need supporters of other tracks coming here and taking the mickey about it, just because they now have their own new track. I think there's only one person who needs to grow up.1 point

I've never been able to understand this theory that everything was better in the old days. You can look back to a lot of results in the 70s and 80s and see absolute hammerings. Imagine how those type of results would be treated on this forum nowadays. The "second halves", I can remember a lot of the time riders didn't fancy it and either went through the motions, or were replaced by local juniors because of bike problems. I bet the forum members would love that these days. The good old days when riders were part timers, travelling about with the one bike on the back of a car. What if that bike got damaged in a crash or blew an engine? You either had to borrow another bike or withdrew from the meeting. You can imagine that going down well these days. You look back at the race time back then, I will use my own club Berwick as an example. Race times in the 70s and 80s are roughly the same as a Northern Junior League race now. Can you imagine many fans nowadays putting up with that as a night's entertainment. Yes it would be great if we could get back to a time where we had the top riders in the world competing in our leagues, but unless we can find some rich benefactors or miraculously find some big sponsorship or TV money, we have to accept this isn't going to happen. Let's face it, we were all a lot more easily pleased in the past. There were fewer alternatives, we were less coddled in those days. Now we want instant gratification and we want it all the time. For my opinion, speedway is better now than it ever has been, throughout the sport. More riders are becoming "professional", the standard of riders have gone up as a whole, right across the sport. But all I see on the forum is doom and gloom. I find I spend very little time looking at the forum these days, the general mood starts to bring me down.1 point
