So a rearranged Danish fixture on an off night for them still takes precedence over our SGBP fixture which has been on the approved FIM International fixture list since the start of the season!? That's really putting the bspa in its place!!!8 points

Might as well not have fixed race nights then lets all go back to our normsl race nights and have done with it !!!!7 points

Honestly What would the council have done if the Speedway had run? they certainly couldn't have widened the pitch if the Speedway had of been operating that's for sure!!! the football club would have had to play on a narrower pitch!!! Not all football pitches are the same size? The length of a pitch must be between 100 yards (90 m) and 130 yards (120 m) and the width not less than 50 yards (45 m) and not more than 100 yards (90 m). However all rugby league pitches I believe are the same size and rugby league is played on a field 112–122 metres long by 68 metres wide. When you look at the aerial shots of the two grounds it is noticeable that Borough Park is wider than Derwent Park however you could still have fit an "FA sized" approved pitch onto the Derwent Park footprint without "Butchering" the Speedway Track. I hold nothing but contempt for the shower of "A Wipes" who are driving and delivering this death blow to the Speedway, A common accusation of Speedway promotions is that they are self-indulgent self-serving and self-centred; However the local council along with the management committees of the "Reds" football team and "Town" the rugby league team certainly take some beating when it comes to saying "screw you" and looking after their own interests which they have done implacably and to the Comets detriment "In Spades" I would hasten to add... I hope the the fleas of a thousand camels infest the collective crotches of all those involved in "Screwing Over" the Comets and that their fingernails drop off to stop them scratching... Pure awkwardness on behalf of the Reds who seem to think they will be in the third division of the football league within the next 5 years, what an absolute joke... who believes that is likely to happen? As for "Town" the lies and disinformation they have spread about the situation and how they would stand by the Speedway and look after their interests well "Et tu, Brute"? backstabbers to a fault... I remember two seasons ago when Berwick had a bad start to the season (the time of Lewis Bridger and Dmitri Berge) that a lot of fans were going to stop going because the team was losing. When pointed out to them that the racing was probably the best we had seen for a while at that time, they responded they did not care, all they wanted was the win. Now, apparently, it doesn't matter if you are winning, it all depends on the racing. Speedway fans, don't you just love them?6 points

Great news the original line up is finally going to be on track. Huge thanks to Scott who has ridden very well for us and delighted he is fixed up at Peterborough. He deserves it.5 points

I pride myself on being super critical of the FIM and BSI wherever I can. They continue to make some really silly decisions and need to be called out whenever they do. The Speedway of Nations continues to be some sort of Dog's Breakfast. BUT I cannot understand any of the ongoing criticism of SGP scoring and format. Especially this obsession some folk have with trying to invent bizarre extreme scenarios to aid their arguments. It seems just about perfect now. Better than any system before it. And should be left alone. Its just ONE of the few things in the whole Speedway world that isn't even slightly messed up.5 points

They made a hell of a lot of changes to Ipswich in the winter? Have you been hibernating? The general feedback from fans is that attendance is up and racing improved but like at Swindon BT meeting none of that was reflected to the watching viewer. Lots of Ipswich fans decided to stay at home because of no price reduction and having had a meeting on Thursday. its the promotions (and BT) that are missing a trick. All TV meetings should be 10 or 12 pound to get a crowd in and partially funded by BT. Swindon offered reduction at their BT match and had a good crowd, that requires for some thought from those who promote the sport.3 points

That would make sense and will be the case however the room for exploitation is there. In a few seasons the conversion rate will be 2. A decent rider finishes the season with a Prem average of 7 and Champ Average of 8. The following season the rider can either be signed at the start of the year into the Prem on a 7 average again or sign Champ only, wait to the 1st set of averages to be released and be available on a bargain 4.3 points

Hawkins came across as, well it would be impolite to say it as it appeared to me. Hopefully, he has a better relationship with his riders and an understanding of the sport than he has with the media. At the very least some help with that seems necessary. And sadly this meeting I can only rate as 5/10 and was a poor advert for UK speedway. Even Tatum & Pearson fell far below their usual almost impeccable selves. Not just with the errors but with downright lies replacing their usual spin on how wonderful it all was. They seemed quite disinterested at times, perhaps they were suffering from post G.P. blues? If the Live matches are not going to rise about the Swindon match and this one it certainly wasn't worth Buster "saving" the PL for TV. The sport looked completely moribund and was raced in front of a crowd that looked like less than a 1,000 ( maybe far less ). Cannot see how any casual non-speedway fan who stumbled across the broadcast would consider rushing to their nearest track.3 points

Well after last nights gate and go once again I am finding it hard to want to go and watch Lynn nowadays. The racing is terrible, ok it looks quick but you can’t overtake on this track anymore. When a rider like lambert can’t overtake there is something wrong, but by looking at the crowd last night I’m not the only one who has had enough. got to be the worst crowd I have seen at Lynn for years. Get rid of the stupid mud shale which does not allow for good racing and put on some decent shale. Otherwise there will be more people in the pits than on the terraces ! Such a shame our Once great track has gone this way3 points

I don't agree, nor would folk at Leicester. Your complaint about 38-point limit is based on under-performing riders, not the limit.2 points

I have to agree with Baldyman here. You should never rest on your laurels and we clearly have a rider that is not up to the job. Peterborough have strengthened up already and you can bet your bottom dollar somebody will sign Cook in the not too distant future on a bargain average and they’ll suddenly look strong whoever it is. Things can change very quickly and you could easily be in the position at the end of the season saying what ifs. Too late then. Why not improve further if the opportunity is there to do so?2 points

Well put, I have to say after being at Peterborough last week the team seemed to have a real togetherness and determination that the home team couldn't match. I think we should enjoy the fact that we are 3 points clear at the top of the league and compost corner are bottom lol, let's enjoy it as long as it lasts and lets remember this fantastic start to the season gives us a great chance of making the play offs!2 points

You can no longer ride in 3 Leagues and can't jump a League. You can ride PL + CL or CL + NL You can't ride PL +NL So if Drew wanted to ride on contract for a PL side and double up he would have to give up his deal with Kent. Can't see him doing that as he is struggling as often as shining in CL for Sheffield and needs to crack CL first.2 points

With the change in the political environment following the local elections I can only imagine the whole situation re the new stadium has to be in a state of deep flux. If as seems likely the Council is to be run by an Independent/Tory alliance many of whom campaigned against the new stadium then surely the likelihood of this happening must be reduced. A spokesman from the 'Reds' was reported in the local press as saying that 'they won't be moving anywhere until the situation is clarified' so why commence work on changing the Derwent Park pitch ?. Its about time some honesty was spoken instead of treating us all like mushrooms.2 points

He's definitely Buster's type of rider, especially for King's Lynn. He's cheap and he's s#!te. Perfect match2 points

Fair point but the likes of Cowdenbeath, Skegness, Crewe, Ellesmere Port, Wimbledon, Buxton, Paisley, Weymouth, Wembley, Sunderland, White City, Oxford, Rochdale - dare I say it, Rye House - all remained as stadiums - and some still do - for decades long after the speedway had pulled the plug.2 points
-
When Rye House were decimating most teams at home in the mid 2000’s there were very few complaints and crowds were generally around the thousand mark. Most promoters would kill for attendances like that these days.2 points

As l wasn't in the country, l used Twitter to get blow-by-blow results on Saturday night. Did the job fine. Much faster than Proboards too, of course. If you want to know the race results even more quickly, you need to actually go to the meeting.2 points

Proper music for ending the evening , May each day , and it has to be the proper Andy Williams version ,not the bloody awful one Sandhu changed it to2 points

Bellego clearly cant perform to the level that is required Harris is just awful as a number one And when you have Bates wobbling around and the other reserve flying then how on earth was Heeps not given 7 rides Louis needs to look at the team manager situation. How does Heeps not get 7 rides and how on earth was Harris in heat 15. Had to be Heeps or KP, nobody would expect Harris to make it off of gate 4 Also cant believe i read that Lawson needs to go.... thats 3 home meetings on the spin he has won heat one. Replace Harris and Bellego while we can and get a team manager who knows how to manage2 points

Noooo! Not the best team of all-time, but one to pay money to watch every week 1 Nigel Boocock - who else but Little Boy Blue - no sponsored vehicle or motor home, just load the bike on the back of a Ford Consul and off to the meeting! 2 Col Cottrell - smooth operator who for a short time was quite unbeatable around Brandon and was part of a wonderful opening pair with Booey - sadly died aged 40 in 1982 3 Tom Farndon - never saw him (obviously!) but the one rider of all time I wish I had seen 4 Ron Mountford - they say that they had to repaint the kick-boards after each meeting where The Man had left tyre marks in his all-action style 5 Tommy Knudsen - the young Dane who made racing look so stylish and so easy (which it never is!), sadly left the sport way too soon 6 Les Owen - the late great Muscles, Coventry kid so seriously injured in 1973 in a track-crash from which he never fully recovered, tragically killed on the railway at Canley crossing - RIP Les 7 Gary Guglielmi - this has to be the young GG who first came to Brandon in 1977, not the later version - watching him try and complete even one lap around Brandon was worth the admission money alone2 points

I think what they need is proper shale, not top soil, seems that all 3 tracks that buster Chapman is involved in have all the same material coincidence.2 points

So the witches need 3 changes to become league winners I think. Harris, Bellego, Hawkins,,,,, then job done2 points

I wasn't at the AFA last night ,so I can't comment on the standard of racing , but it was a terrible result for the Stars. It's time to show Proctor and Anderson the exit door.2 points

Think it was a big missed opportunity by Wolves in all honesty Steve. We made numerous errors early doors and were missing our key rider. When Wolves kept getting their noses in front I thought that was that. Any away point is good, but I’m sure most Wolves supporters would have seen this one as a missed opportunity.2 points

Me too. I feel lost without Lucy by my side. I have always taken a dog with me to Speedway meetings and they have never been a problem to anyone. We're not exactly at some posh all seated indoor arena but usually pretty basic grass banking or terracing so why not if they are allowed.2 points

Good post. The mantra to the casual viewer cannot be, tune in and something worth watching may appear in an hour and a halves time. The 2 matches we have seen on BT this year have been pretty dire, its like watching British Speedways slow funeral live on the box every fortnight. Last night even Pearson seemed to be running out of steam trying to bull it up, think he realises that this is a pig its getting harder to put lipstick on.1 point

I wouldn't say struggling i would say he is learning, to even cope in the top five in the Championship Drew has made huge strides. He is still learning the tracks set ups ( etc) he is a huge talent and also comes across as a real level headed young man.1 point

Sticking to the thread.... Weather looks great.....team looks 'hungry'....let's hope for a positive result! Ashley Morris is my biggest concern....he can't become a bad rider over-night?1 point

Bellego needs to go, totally out of his depth. He made the gate in heat 14 and was leading into bend 1 and rolled it off and entered the bend last where he remained. I thought I would check out the tv replay when I got home and it looked even worst. Have to agree that Lawson is doing his job, would've had more last night as he was leading heat 8 when Bates fell off and got blocked in the rerun. I said after the Peterborough match that Hawkins hasn't got a clue and last night proved it again. Harris in heat 15 what a joke, should've been Heeps or KP. As for Harris he is so hit & miss, he should be riding the lines Heeps uses, but just seems to ride in no mans land in the middle of the turns, just doesn't seem to have the pace. Knew it would be a tight meeting and said I would take any victory as missing Jake was always going to affect our scoring. Good luck to Peterborough with Bates, doesn't look like the same rider who started the season on fire.1 point

Buster spending a few quid getting Nicholls in. I wonder if Bjerre or Barker will end up at Saddlebow ?1 point

Agree with Proctor and Kerr, it's a good job these trophy matches don't count towards the averages. At least this way you can see how the riders are doing before possibly making changes for the league campaign. Think we might have to see how Riss is before we go ahead with changes.1 point

Maybe so. He's actually had almost as much track time as the rest of the team. lol. There have been too many blank Sundays ( three in the last six weeks) for our newbies to get properly dialled in. I would have hoped to see some of them out after the main meeting practising, and trying to sort out some of the issues they are having, but that hasn't happened. Another week off next week, then next month there is at least two possibly three blank Sundays. It's crazy having so many blank dates this early in the season. Then in July and August there are no spare dates meaning if we have any rain-offs we'll be struggling to get the matches in before the cut-off.1 point

To be fair it also had something to do with Danny King, Drew Kemp, Broc Nichol and especially Kyle Howarth as well. Sheffield were the first team to arrive at Shielfield this season with all of the riders willing to get stuck in and race. Newcastle and Glasgow had a couple but were mostly passengers, Edinburgh just couldn't be arsed with the exception of Luke Ruddick. Virtually every point on Saturday was earned the hard way and that led to close racing, errors under applied pressure, crashes, a visiting side comeback. Mind you someone on here reckons it was the worst meeting of the season so far ... Seems you can't please some - or maybe they had their whinge set to auto-publish at 21.051 point

James has proved that is is a very talented motorcyclist, what he lacks is a proven "Speedway" mentor to fine tune his riding technique.1 point
