  2. You are making a lot of assumptions in what you have said. In recent years the hierarchy of The Showground has changed from the times when I used to deal with them a decade ago, so I can't speak about the current management team, but my assumption will be that the practicalities of running Speedway at the venue will not have changed very much, if at all. Speedway pays significant rent to the venue. I don't know what the amount is these days, but when I was promoter it was, I felt, jaw dropping. It is considerable over a season. The Speedway club are also not allowed to bring their own concessions (catering) on to the venue, so the Speedway clubs income is restricted to admissions and the sale of programmes only. Speedway comes a long way back in the queue of the events held at the Showground and that's only rightly so, it is a business after all - actually it's not, it's a charity. Effectively you pay rent for the key to open and close the place, you get little or no help from them in putting the event on or clearing up after. The Showground is not a charity (actually it is, but you probably get my drift). The Speedway staff volunteers do an absolutely amazing (and thankless) job in getting the place ready for Speedway and clearing it up afterwards, it takes a monumental amount of effort and I mean monumental and these people are the real heroes of the Speedway club. The Showground does not 'plug' the back end or keep Speedway 'afloat'. They provide a key. A very expensive one at that. The one thing Speedway does do for the Showground is provide an event for LOCAL people. Practically every other event at the Showground is supported in the majority by people who live outside of Peterborough. Not everyone locally owns a Shire Horse, Truck or Modified Car or wants to pitch a tent a couple of miles from their home and there are only so many times you can drag yourself along to Truckfest. The 'dirty shale arena' gets plenty of use from other events, often these events damage the track and fence, which additionally costs the Speedway club to put right. If other events use the floodlights - which the Speedway club paid for and installed - and a light fuses, the Speedway club has to pay for this to be replaced as well.

  3. Better racing at Brough than you get down in Redcar... I'm sorry Just my opinion... You just need some balls to ride Brough... Where Redcar is gate, wind it on and go...

  4. Poole fans up in arms that Porsing isnt riding lol.................the same Poole fans who didnt like other fans accusing them when Wells went missing for Poole ...whilst banging in a maximum for Edinburgh I feel for Poole in this match everything has gone against them....... No MPT makes Lynn much stronger R/R for Jorgensen makes Lynn much stronger Chris Harris will probably get an 18 point maximum No Porsing and Lynn have brought in a reserve likely to score double figures... Come on neutral fans we need to have a heart here and get the message out there.............#prayforpoole

  5. He might of been dejected, so was I watching him score nothing again.

  6. I've said before - my main issue with your many many posts usually on Poole threads is that they are simply repetitive - over and over and over again saying the same old stuff. Sometimes you have something valuable to say which is why you are not on ignore - but you don't need to keep on saying it. Once is often enough - for everyone.

  7. Yes it would be a remarkable achievement if we were to retain the title this season. Certainly massive underdogs against those two teams. We should see off Ipswich but that’s about it. Every speedway fan bar the other teams fans would be cheering us on to a shock win as we are the underdogs this season.

  8. Harris guesting swings it Lynns way completely. But it’s fair enough. Swindon got the luck this time around with Proctor. Be interesting to see if they do chose us or Ipswich.

  9. Yes its tragic really so if Eastbourne are finally looking at re-instating then all the better. I guess the change in modern times though is that the youth rounds are raced upon the regular circuits so riders are looking to practice upon the same. That said i believe Iwade & Scunthorpe operate the policy of getting laps in on the smaller tracks and learning techniques before progressing to the main tracks.

  13. McDonald or one his farmyard Animals at 7 won’t have any affect on the score. Lynn to take this one by 10 plus. McD0nald. The same as P0rsing

  14. At least Wells had a injury , one meeting left and Porsing has quit yeah right!

  15. That absolutely was the case and was used in addition to the seasonal bucket collection as our contribution to the SBRF.

  16. You don't have to speak to 100 to get 99% .24.75 is 99% of 25. To be clear I have no idea how many were spoken to but you do not need to speak to 100 to get a percentage of 99%.

  18. And neither do the play off matches so its max all the way now for Bomber. Big money and no harm to that nice low average....

  19. Harris makes them much stronger than Proctor, the point is if they had a better guest than Proctor it would have made it far more difficult for Swindon. Not saying we can't win but much harder for us than it was for Swindon

  20. Just in case Shovlar wasnt sure Kings Lynn 40-50 Poole..............Poole win at Lynn despite TJ scoring 9+1 and MPT getting 7+2 , Poole were able to win Kings Lynn 41-49 Poole...........Poole win at Lynn despite TJ scoring 7 and MPT getting 12, Poole were able to win Yet somehow Lynn are favourites missing these two lol

  21. A narrow win on aggregate for the Budgies i recon but this could be a tough evening.Even with Belle Vue having a disappointing season the aces are still an attractive team to watch with Fricke, Bewley,Lidsey, Etheridge all riders i like and will more and likely be the core of there 2020 line up.

  22. No way will points limit be 38 as it has been a disaster. This league will revert back to 42.5 or 40 points at the minimum.

  23. Ben Duffill quoted in the Teesside Gazettte today. Broc Nichol in to replace Nathan Greaves for both play off meetings against Leicester (the Bates Family are being very generous loaning us their Sheffield asset) Plus 3 quality No 1's offered their services to replace MPT. Ben Thinks we are making a positive out of a negative following the horrific crash at Newcastle. Just need a reasonable 2 pointer to replace Tom Woolley to make the 7 up. DON'T WRITE US OFF YET LEICESTER......

  24. Just couldn't help myself, still defending my beloved Comets , but like ruffdiamond , I'd rather be watching speedway at Rough park than have none at all , sadly

  25. If Ellis chooses to ride in the CL next season he will have plenty of offers on his current average, likewise Aarnio so if Brum can land them it would show serious intent. Given the averages i can see only one of Ash Morris, Shanes or Paco featuring and whilst i think the smart choice is Morris i suspect Brum will go for Shanes. I suspect there will be a riot if either Agertoft or Thomsen are signed. Garrity is a strange one as he is a handful in multiple ways and normally Rogers prefers riders who are easier to deal with but he clearly has a soft spot for Jason. Either way with the full winter to plan there will be no excuses for a poorly built team in 2020.

  27. little track like they used to have at Arlington returning is a great move by the Dugards (Martin and Connor) and Cook and should be a real boost for the sport and riders in the South East and the club. Got to be an advantage too to have a separate Training track like they had and will have. That saves the main track from over-wear and over use like we see at Leicester.

  28. So, only the numbers involved have changed, if this turns out to be the case. Fixed nights for PL matches will continue to strangle UK speedway. Not enough customers want those nights and are prepared to turn up and pay. But Hey Ho, why let that spoil a "good plan". Unless televised matches are to be a tenner or less to watch in the stadium there is no point in showing a moribund sport.

  36. I see Bomber is taking more unnecessary risks by guesting for the Stars again tomorrow - or maybe its the money on offer?
    1 point
  37. Yes they do....no unnecessary risks need to be taken in a nothing match......

  38. Just guns for hire. There is always another gig to go to. Most riders don’t have a clue what the match score is but they know how many they have scored as an individual and how much they have earnt.

  39. With it being The Aces last meeting of the season I think it will be a tough night & wouldn't be surprised if they edge it on aggregate as a result of that.

  43. I also remember when we had Chris Harris and Kenneth Bjerre at reserve..but this season we got the ever reliable Bates and Garrity..I mean Cmon who's made these awful cheap decisions this season on new signings and guests??...For instance We had chance to sign Wells and Bellego but no we got Proctor and Bates. All we have heard is what bad luck we've had all season and it's all down to the lack of home meetings in August...this is bull****!...it's because we have a crap team and nothing has been done to improve it..I feel like we are just cannon fodder to keep this tinpot league alive for Busters ulterior motive. The only form rider we have actually lost to injury was BWD. And this so called top league is crap, How many meetings has there been compared to last season?...there is no continuity or excitement to keep the fans interested. Ged made it work and everyone was behind the club compared to what we have now..and he was good with the media. How many press releases have there been this season..for instance is Colin Pratt still with the club..if so what's his role?...we the fans deserve better..we pay the wages..we deserve to know what's going on rather than being lied to all the time like with the Harris and Cook situation....it's been a complete shambles from the the start.

  44. I remember the Thundercats team being unveiled around the turn of the century under the old Peter Oakes promotion to the fanfare of this is the team for the new millennium, I can't remember how many of those actually progressed into the main team within 5 years, probably only David Howe. I also remember Jason Crump and Paul Hurry starting their careers off at the same time in the reserve berths at Peterborough, one went on to become one of the best riders of his generation, the other nothing more than a capable second string at the very best. The fact is not every rider is going to "make it" and somewhere along the way promoters seem to have lost the meaning of the word loyalty in their scramble every year to make the play-offs, constantly chopping and changing riders in the hope of 2 decent attendances at the end of the year. Loyalty of course works both ways and it's no wonder riders these days have little or no affinity to the club they're riding for as they're likely to be binned off if they have a few duff meetings. Look at Ed Kennett at the weekend missing both legs of a cup final for the club he captains.

  45. False dawn that is spot on, and you can understand in a way why so little was spent on the stadium if the lease they had allowed the owners to do this. Not much incentive to spend any money knowing that it could be snatched away at short notice.

  46. Any loan fee is for the whole of the remaining season calculated on a daily basis. (A full season is 231 days). If a rider is released during the season and signs elsewhere the appropriate loan fee is charged by the first loaning Club to the second Club. Full payment in advance is required.
