  1. Steve if you think woffinden would put a few more hundred people on the gate at wolves, you are dreaming..

  2. I think we should step back from some of the detail here and look at the bigger picture. We have a club with a long history returning to the top flight, on it's traditional race night, being lead by a former world champion. This is to be celebrated by all speedway fans. And we can only hope that many former Sheffield fans will see these developments as a good enough reason to come back into the fold. Well done Sheffield. I look forward to seeing you on track.

  3. Grading is rubbish. Averages are much more accurate.

  4. Not really, I would rather the club was more financially secure.

  6. Don’t get the dislike for Mr Phillips. His sponsorship has probably kept the Diamonds afloat for 2 years.

  7. To be fair a think there's a fair few that preferred it if you stuck to your own thread also?! First and final time I comment on a lower league sides thread ......

  8. I see Rob ride at Swindon earlier in the season and boy he looked quick he had one dodgy fall in one race but his gating was electric. The one thing that struck me about him in the pits was his enthusiasm and he also was a really nice bloke to speak to.He will be great for team moral and great to have around the younger members of the team really hope he has a great 2020 season.

  10. Glad to see things looking good for the Diamonds, i have a lot of time for the majority of the fans down that way. Have met a few over the years and are a good bunch, good to get this news and happy for the fans knowing things look ok .

  11. You ask Cvs when woffy come back the other year he didn't put that much more on the gate than you think and that is fact....

  15. Why does it really matter? It's a thread on a speedway forum not the formulae for world peace

  16. Can I ask are you a fan of Newcastle who went to every meeting? If yes then I can't understand you saying you want Martin Phillips completely gone. Without Martin you would not have been able to have to watch your speedway that's a fact, so think about what you write before open your mouth.......

  21. I recall some years ago that it was stated in the Speedway Star that NP was the only rider that would draw in extra fans on the gate, having a much greater effect than Woffinden who, it was said, would make little difference. Well done Sheffield!

  22. I think moving forward hopefully the higher league clubs will all start to have some development side as a feeder. even if neighbour clubs entered a joint side sharing home fixtures. It may cost promoters a little in the short term but looking long term it has to be cheaper to have a pool of local lads ready for the big leagues rather then importing riders. Equally a strongly supported NL gives potential new stand alone clubs a viable league to set out in, which in turn can only strengthen speedway across the board. For the pinicle of the the sport to be stable the foundations need to be solid. I actually think if the BSPA were to get the NL back of a couple of years ago, when it was by far the best the league in the country. Get everything around the National League set up right and then adapt the sport moving up the levels accordingly

  28. I certainly hope we get Ben, big fan favourite for Kent, and will chip in with valuable points at home. I think it’s an ok move bringing Rob in at reserve, it shows that the hunger at his ripe age is there and it is one of those “prove us wrong” type of signings, as the majority of people will expect him to fail, but hopefully with the right set up and fitness he can prove them wrong, and in particular the age haters haha. Good luck to the old boy!

  29. Ten more, costing the 2div teams ten times more to ride the season. ”All is not not well in Poland” is not news.

  30. Of course they would. He is proper box office material and most want the best British rider back racing in the UK. Plus it’s not rocket science, the more top riders in the top flight the bigger the crowds. Nicki will add to most turnstiles next year, that’s a great thing. Ditto Zmarzlik, Emil. Woffy would certainly add more thru the turnstiles, probably more than a rider past his best.

  31. Report your own post to the mods and put a comment saying can the topic be pinned. That’s how I got the NL one pinned.

  34. Averages that grade a riders ability is one brilliant tool speedway has & other sports can only dream of. The way they are sometimes implemented & abused is the problem!

  36. It used to be In Rosco we Trust(others pay cash), but Lee has made such a difference to Swindon speedway. Engages with the fans, more positive vibe around the place since he came in. Rosco and him work so well together. Swindon are the team to beat in 2020, as they bid for 3 titles in 4 years. Lee and Aluns Tangerine Army

  38. Having looked through unsigned riders for 2020, with 2019 averages. Can't see anything other than a 8 pointer & a 2 pointer being sought. Just no riders fit with Thomsen or Hume/Perry.

  41. He would have to bang in 12 or 13 every week to convince the hardcore who don’t forget. I doubt we will ever see him in a Wolves race jacket again, and I for one couldn’t be happier. If he did it’s a season I’d happily miss.

  42. There's been a history of the Lions binning young reserves in the second tier, but this year Jack Thomas binned himself, that was all. But overall there's been a stong tendency for younger riders to underperform at Beaumont Park for the Lions, I think that's because they've struggled to master the track and then get discouraged. Joe and Dan will not have that problem, and so they start out with an advantage over many who have trodden this path.

  43. Attendances down more like. Quite a lot of regular Wolves fans can’t stick him. And the feeling is mutual apparently. id never support a team with him in it, pure and simple.

  44. The feelings are definitely mutual between both parties.

  45. Yes we are on a very strict budget now and rightly so. Dont want cripple the club for the sake of 1 rider so mark has a very difficult job. And I think this year we could be last years Peterborough

  46. As team manager of the cubs and second half organiser I tried every week to get Elliot to second half / race for the cubs. Sadly for one reason and another it just didn't happen often enough which was a huge shame as the kid himself was always very keen to race at the MPA. I personally think its a little early to be thinking about championship for him and hopefully a second solid season in the NDL will bring him up to a consistent standard to maybe take the step in 2021 or 22 Ell is a great kid, always prepared to listen and learn and with the right advice and guiidance Im sure he can make it in the sport.

  47. I always like to read your comments, Teaboy as you seem to know what you are talking about and never seem to spout some of the rubbish I read on this forum from self important know-alls who actually know nothing. So far as Ledwith is concerned, I don't care if he's 60, I enjoy watching him ride over the edge in 110% effort in every race. I think he deserves a chance to shine.

  50. Well done Redcar! Really pleased I decided to attend last night for what turned out to be an enthralling night of speedway. It was a throwback to the close encounters we have had with Redcar/Middlesbrough years ago when large crowds turned out to watch the likes of Eric Boothroyd, Dave Younghusband etc racing against our lads for the bragging rights. it was always going to be a tall order to recover the deficit with Redcars top 3 strength but by heat 12 it did look as if we were in with a shout. Full marks to Riss and Wright who held their nerve and there was no way they were going to let the cup come to Newcastle. Credit also to Woolley for his battling point in Heat 2 and also to Jordan Stewart who bounced back from a dire performance on his last visit. Last night was a reminder of the potential which speedway still has in pulling in decent size crowds. In some ways the 2 postponements may have helped because their several mentions from Jeff Brown on local BBC news and also the anticipation building up. Plus also there must have been a number of neutrals there last night from Berwick/Workington etc. Have to say I don’t understand the negative comments on here about Roy Clarke. He took over the role I recall when Andrew Daley took some time out. He gives 120% and is Newcastle through and through but always gives total respect to the opposition and their fans. I hope both he and the Diamonds are back next year with George still on board!
