1) if a club joins after the AGM they have to follow same rules & could only pick riders not already signed up, this would not hinder any other club as they would have already signed up the best riders available! 2) If there's a large number of riders frozen out from the NL, why not allow another team!3 points

Let's be honest if MD is as big as he was the last time I saw him then they'd have to cull a herd of Wildebeast to make his racesuit.2 points

By Wimborne I assume you mean Poole?! The difference with Poole being that Osborne doesn't 'own' Poole Stadium - they lease it from Poole Council, who have stated they wish to retain the site as a sporting/leisure facility, with just a relatively small corner of the car park and an adjacent site being used for flats.2 points

To be honest both clubs need each other to survive and it's also good that Shielfield is used pretty much all year round2 points

So Newcastle have applied to run in this years NT, i suspect it's a test to see if running in the NL is viable. Would give IoW Mildo and Plymouth an extra home meeting to enjoy.1 point

I'm sure others will give better answers than me, but to me it just looked like plain fear. If he didn't have a clear track ahead of him, he looked like he got spooked very easy, bailing out as soon as riders started to bunch up around him. Ironically, a few of his retirements at Smallmead were downright dangerous almost causing crashes in themselves.1 point

Same here Steve I also wished I was born to watch the birth of this sport. In the Daily Mail from May 1928 from a meeting at Stamford Bridge there is news story where the reporter called speedway no-more than a circus with no thrills whatsoever. But the following moth in 10 July the same newspaper report plenty of thrill from a meeting at Stamford Bridge. With Art Peacher in a neck-and-neck race breaking the track record at 43.38 mph, beating the mile rolling start record, at Stamford Bridge. In this Stamford Bridge meeting "cyclone" Billy lamont of Harringay won the handicap 'silver wheels' prize of scratch beating Vic Huxley's record averaging 34.45 mph. Fay Taylour beating L.Barker at Hove speedway by 10 lengths averaging nearly 33 mph in a mile match. With Crystal palace Roger Frogley won the handicap in this meeting at Hove in 1 min 34 2-s secs thereby beating the standing start record for the 1 mile course averaging 38.14 mph. Not bad att for all these records in 1 newspaper report. I also found a meeting at Wimbledon in 1928 with Malcolm Seagrave presented a trophy to Vic Huxley in front of a 12,000 crowd the biggest so far at Wimbledon.1 point

Great posts! Wish that I'd been there at the start of something big and which caught the imagination at the time.1 point

I’d go with (assuming team positions are correct for those teams incomplete!) 1. Doyle 2. Andersen 3. Wright 4. Lawson 5. Cook 6. Covatti 7. Nicol1 point

You've done it wrong. Andersen, Harris & BWD are all at Peterborough. You've missed Belle Vue & Ipswich.1 point

I recall his brief spell with Sheffield when he won loads of credit for his sheer guts and can-do attitude. Considering his seemingly endless run of bad luck I'd like to see him having some part to play in the sport. If he's fit and willing to go, someone should give him a place. If nothing else, he could have a role in team management. One of speedway's unsung heroes in my book.1 point

They weren't blocked. The standalone clubs understandably wanted more meetings whilst Belle Vue, Kent, Leicester and Armadale obviously have PL/CL fixtures that take priority and couldn't fit in the extra meetings. The U21 qualifiers and the Riders Championship/Fours/Pairs also went to Mildenhall, Plymouth and IOW to give them the extra meetings they wanted. I'm sure those 3 would be happy to have Newcastle included as well1 point

He made a few mistakes elsewhere as well especially his own team who were firm favourites to make the play offs and didn’t.1 point

I know Ove quite well. We've met and chatted on numerous occasions. He is a real gentleman. The complete opposite of his on track persona!1 point

Doyle is a much stronger number 1 than Kurtz. Absolutely nothing between Wright/Killer and Batch/Jensen. In fact Jensen will struggle to keep that average. Below that BV are much stronger. 2 top teams whichever way it’s dressed and will be cut free from the rest of the league.1 point

Surely it is better that fewer animals are bred than to keep breeding animals that are cruelty treated ?This isn’t specific to greyhounds, but any animal. It is like saying if you stop testing products on animals it is cruel because less beagles or monkeys will be bred . It was also the fox hunt argument that if hunts are banned then the dogs won’t be needed....1 point

If this goes balls up from the start, there won't be many there,to see us playing catch up.As one of his main rivals, bet Rossiter can't believe his luck.1 point

Rebel1, you must be part of the track staff to have such knowledge. Would be good to have your insider's view of things like track prep and how things run behind the scenes. Most of us are curious about such things.1 point

What Osbourne & other developers should do ................ be accountable & rebuild or re-site new stadia before any houses are built as per the planning procedure. They should never have been allowed to build houses before the speedway & stock cars were sorted.1 point
-
Developers are surely less of a threat than waning interest among what few supporters the sport still has.1 point

Even with a ten point start in every meeting, Newcastle will finish bottom comfortably - I hope they don't get too battered as their notoriously fickle fans will just stay away...1 point

Great guy. One of the few you made sure you didn't miss his heat's. RIP Roman Matousek1 point

Not convinced Manzares will ever make it big in the sport and feel would struggle just as he did some years ago. Maybe should stay with the change of career he embarked on. Think there are better options even at this stage.1 point

My postman is very disappointed. For years, he thought I was the recipient of some very dodgy material as it was sent in a “brown plain wrapper”. Now he realises it’s just Speedway porn1 point
