  1. Well now that he is confirmed his fan club members can start thinking about their trips to Sandy Lane. Perhaps they could arrange to travel together in one car & save on fuel costs.

  2. We've discussed before, but the narrative has tended to be written from the John Berry perspective. We don't fully know what the demands and conditions were, and I don't think it's realistic to expect complete autonomy as has been alluded to. John Berry was undoubtedly a good promoter, certainly had good if not visionary ideas on how the wider sport should be run, and was familiar with US sports practices which he suggested should been the model for speedway. However, any multi-stakeholder organisation needs a leader who is patient and persuasive, not one that quickly gets frustrated and falls out with people at the drop of hat. He also appears to have been reactionary about developments in other sports (e.g. World Series Cricket) that arguably revolutionised them (even if his underlying point about the demise of existing competitions was correct), so how things like the advent of satellite/cable television and the SGP would have been handled would have been interesting. I do think much of his vision for the way forward was correct, but i don't think his tenure would have lasted that long in that sort of role though. Plus speedway had already started on its long road to decline at that point, so it would have been in an environment of long under-capitalisation and increasing financial pressures.

  3. If that is the rumoured team, I personally have doubts. It puts a lot of pressure on Jordan in the main body of the team. Lambo has had years of mediocrity and will not improve and is suspect away. Which ever way you dress it up, Aarnio let us down big time last season. Visa issue or not, he was not that impressive when he did ride for us. Personally ,if we aim to win at home Auty plus another, would be better option as second strings.

  4. I think criticism of the twins and comparisons with Flint / Palin is unfair. Flint had a full NDL season in 2018 and again in 2019 and would be 12-24 months ahead of the Twins and Palin may simply be a better rider at this point. Due to Covid it's safe to say that both twins were thrown a bit in at the deep end in 2021, the NDL was not the League it once was in terms of depth and the CL is stacked with a lot of experienced second strings and reserves. I think both are still ahead of the curve. Maybe time for them to split and I wonder if Joe might go to Oxford possibly, although that could be a big stretch for their parents at this stage of their careers until they become more self sufficient. Probably level at this stage with likes of Bickley and Edwards who have more experience. Give them a break!

  7. Oh dear… Poland have created an U24 league, the same as how most sports have youth leagues, Jason Edwards has signed up for Grudziadz, he won’t be in the first team, he’s hardly at that sort of level. You just stick to talking utter rubbish and contributing meaningless posts, you’re not very good at the actual speedway stuff clearly

  10. I am Indian, originally from northern India. Have been following the Wolves since 1967. Used to go away as well but stopped going about 10 years ago, although still go to play-off finals if we get there. Been to approximately 76 tracks but my list needs updating. Only current track I haven't been to is Kent, but also never got to the Isle of Wight (and never got to West Ham either, but remember our 29-49 win in 1969). Even my own family take the mickey out of me for this 'unusual' interest. But there again I also like rock/ambient music, real ale and sci-fi and they take the mickey out of those as well. I collect Wolves programmes and have them from 1950 onwards. I also have all of the World FinaI programmes from 1936 onwards. I really have to assume that I am not typical of my generation ! I did take my son when he was young, but it did not stick, like virtually everybody else, football is the be all and end all for him. And bloody Man Utd at that. I, of course, support the football Wolves. Very handy that the colours are the same.

  13. But if you read the forum guidelines you will see that posting in bold is considered shouting and posters are asked not to do it. "Please do not post in ALL CAPITAL LETTERS; this is the Internet version of shouting, and is irritating to many posters." Mind you it describes a troll as " a contributor whose sole intent in posting is to be a disturbance to the community." and you ignore that as well.

  15. On the one hand yes but team spirit is a major part of winning trophies so having riders that want to race together helps.

  17. 100%. Great at his job as a promoter, but not a man to bring people together. He was sworn enemies with half of his fellow promoters and his tenures as England boss resulted in multiple fall outs. Just not the right fit. Though, to be honest, I am not sure if there has ever been the right person around..and if there ever was, if they had any brains, they got out of the sport pronto! All true. Sadly. Speedway will never adapt with the times....change will only come to speedway - as it always has - when change is forced upon it. And not in a good way.

  19. I just don't get it John. What is your motive? On the Memories of Rye House Facebook page you make an ambiguous but provocative post, which then sets off a negative chain of events. After that causes an argument you delete all your posts so no one can see the trail, and then you make apologies. You then set up an alternative Facebook group which you call Rye House Speedway- the Fabulous Rockets. Yet on this Forum thread you admit that you haven't been since 1963 and you left because you were bored, and that having posted a link to a picture of a Rye House legend you don't know and don't really care who he is! However, that also means that this Forum thread has been diverted away from the positive news that there is actually a chance Rye House could return. I try not to post negative things in relation to your posts, but boy, you do make it difficult to come to any conclusion other than that you are trying to damage the possible Rye House return.

  20. Why are you so involved in something you don't care about, aren't interested in promoting, and are happy to tell the world that last time you went there, you left because you were bored? Then you wonder why people mock you?

  21. The guy who developed Central Park originally had plans to get Sittingbourne into the football league. Then got into difficulties and I think Gillingham were then interested. Its remained a ‘white elephant’ in some people’s eyes with dogs the only income until speedway was introduced. Its a terrific venue but I think speedway came too late to it to have any sustainable life especially with a hostile council and restrictive operation.

  22. Be bit disappointing if your team building ended with Danny gap and be fair bit under points limit surely? Obviously at least 3 riders there capable of putting a point or so on their averages but thought be looking for bit better?

  23. If you had spent thousands on a 2020 range, as most people who run merchandise shops did before covid hit, you would not be prepared to chuck it to one side and spend thousands more on a new range. Come on Martin, you can't keep comparing everything to Poland. If it was your money, you wouldn't do it. But its easy to waste other peoples.

  30. Always better to stay in the black ink. The Berwick operation ended 2021 on the credit side of the ledger, and while we all want to track the best-possible team in each of the three leagues the club ràces in, the overàll budget does have to be observed.

  39. I’m quite sure if the average fan really wanted to know a riders correct average concerning Eastbourne situation and rolling average, they should be able to work it out ,given there is a formula. Personally I don’t think the Eastbourne situation should have affected a riders average,it was just another match and a true reflection of the rider. After all Teams that rode again Eastbourne probably rode against different riders given the R/r and guest situation we have in the sport.

    1 point
  44. Its really quite simple. If a rider has raced in a match for or against Eastbourne in 2021, these points and meetings are wiped out. As rolling averages are calculated over a rider's last 20 matches, to ascertain a true CMA you just need to go back and add older matches back in, to give you the rolling average over twenty meetings, to compensate for the 'loss' of the Eastborne matches. Simples!

  46. Well there is a debate to be had on this one Geoff... Saturday as per DP and under lights is favourite like in the good old days... however there are some fans saying that Sunday tea time may be a better shout after the Reds play... We know Fridays are a non starter and no one seems really keen on a midweek night... So as things stand my best guess is Saturday nights are odds on favourite... Regards THJ
