  1. We had that conversation at Shawfield back in the glory years when we were thumping everyone at home . It does actually get boring after a while . Give me what we have now every time , and if we manage to win something - fine , if not then as long as the entertainment on view stays the same .

Speedway hopefully returning to Somerset and 15 minutes or so up the road from the old track. Let’s keep our fingers crossed!

  4. Nathan Ablitt has been signed up for Wroclaw in the Polish U.24 league in 2023. Good lad.

  7. What do you actually get for winning? Are there any financial benefits? Winning put Workington out of business a couple of years back!! Who outside a few hundred hardcore fans actually cares about who wins what?

  8. A few seniors at Peterborough didn’t pay anything to get in for the last two seasons apparently. Their excuse? They were riding for the Panthers!

  9. A multiple GP winner, an U21 World Champion, a British U21 Champion and several National title winners and you don't think that's a capable team? Do tell what or who you are looking for?

  10. Nope, sort the tyres. The EoES is one of the best track shapes there is.

  11. But the only league they all rode in regularly so the only way to compare them properly somebody made a good point earlier in the thread about Ablitt overtaking the likes of Coles, Stoneman and possibly Atkins over the course of the season as he is young and will improve whereas they've been around a while. Certainly hope he gets a spot in the Champs, and of course rides in Poland will do him the world of good.

  12. Mulford didn't start the season with BV as he was a late replacement for Parkinson Blackburn. Nathan started the season and missed the last meeting at Edinburgh.

  13. I remember him holding Doyle out for 3 laps back in August. Best of luck to the lad, and Jack with Ippo.

  14. It would be a really good track for him, he has genuine speed. Chucks his toys out his pram a bit, but if Lemon can get that out of his game then could be a really good signing.

  15. Personally I would put him above Coles, Stoneman, Killeen and Atkins.

  19. First poiny - winning didn’t put Workington out of business. It was years of over trading and late paying that did that. They were going to fail at some point but the winning streak just speeded that up. As far as financial benefits are concerned, ask Poole how much they made from the play off final. Or Leicester how much they expected to make. These are £30,000-£40,000 events with costs the same as a normal league event. And winning teams, promoted well, encourage more support. In my opinion. .

  20. I’m very much of the opposite thinking. your 6 and 7 have to do 30% (28.57)of the rides for the team. If your team is carrying 2 x 2 pointers and they make their average that leaves 42 points required to get a win before heat 15. That works out at 2.1 points per rider per race. 4-2’s won’t cut it. last year Poole could carry one two pointer as Nathan only did 3 rides a night (10%) leaving the rest of the riders requiring to score 1.76 points per ride(4-2’s now cut it) to secure a win by the end of heat 14. if you think that your 1-5 can all average 8.4 a meeting then that’s the way to go. I’d go with a 4 pointer at 6 and take the #7’s 4th ride unless he’s scored 2 already in the meeting. (Pretty much what Poole did with Nathan all season)

  21. Don't think so, Complin's away ave was far better than his home ave for Newcastle. Put him on a home track he likes & his average could rise.

  22. Yeah there is little loyalty left in the sport bar fans turning up every week.

  23. Any rider can change his mind until contracts are signed. Lawson last year decided against Plymouth & headed to Poole, Redcar suggesting Jenkins was gonna stay before going to Oxford. I don't particularly blame the riders as clubs are quick to drop a rider when it suits them.

  25. We’re normally very good at getting the best out of young riders, something we’ve done for years. Hopefully young Kyle can follow in the footsteps of those before him.

  26. The fact so many Promotions haven't stuck with him says far more than any fans' comments.

  28. Also in his defence as a number 7 he should be riding against the oppositions 7 in every heat he’s in, but he was never in heat 8.

  29. I had thought that the change in point structure would adversely effect us but this season we would have still finished second, a lot closer to Leicester than the current scoring system. Scoring 40 odd points on the road meant we would have picked up plenty of bonus point but faltering in heats 13 & 15 meant we didn't pick up the away wins that got 3/4 points.

  30. I wonder when our next team member announcement will be........Monday this week, missed Wednesday......this Monday?

  31. Yeah I'd rather watch a 46-44 match than a 60-30 match but with the aggregate score being introduced my view on that may change. Of course the ongoing problem with aggregate scores when riders are missing for whatever reason, meetings cut short due to weather etc is always going to keep The Forum kicking on

  32. Gino Manzares? I saw somewhere that he wanted to come back to the UK, and has quite a low average.

  33. Good Signing if he can stay fit.. if the final two are Allen and Douglas then they look better than some named so far

  34. Jason Edwards must be nailed on for the rising star birth as Jack Thomas as moved to Ippo. Until he got injured in thought Jack was the slightly better of the two

  35. James Wright joins the Brummies on a 5.51 average and not 4.94 as shown in the 2023 team lists.

  36. I have only known and dealt with Kyle since late in last year & absolutely no hint of arrogance about him as far as I am concerned. That is one of the reasons I sponsored him this year, ahead of a couple of others who were initially higher up my list, but couldn't be bothered with me when I first tried to contact them.

  37. I think Mulford is a good signing on a 2.00 ave, think he has the ability to average 4.00, but still think he'd be at reserve all season.

  38. I think part of the problem was the public perception of him coming across as a cocky wee git especially when the photograph of him making hand gestures when he was captain of the BV Colts surfaced. I've heard stories from other riders, mechanics etc who find an arrogance about him but I'm sure the Edinburgh Promotion are more than capable of handling that. He undoubted lost direction when he lost his grandfather but that was few years ago now and perhaps he should have found another mentor to get him back on track (no pun intended)

  39. Team continuity is rare in this sport today and the fact that Dan is a local lad, it is great to have him back. I expect him to boss heat 2 at home and pick up some minor place points elsewhere. Points away are likely to be hard to get, but as young as he is, he can’t expect to be wrapped in cotton wool for too long. Lions fans will have a soft spot for him and if he can punch his weight, he will be key to the team’s achievements next year.

  41. You don’t fully grasp the concept that the clubs worked together that both were happy with. And not one or the other being quick enough as you put it to get deals done, both clubs would have to agree the deal. But your version probably suits your comfort blanket better that is Glasgow bad Poole good.

  44. I am certain that there will be people of pensionable age that have difficulty making ends meet, but the same could be said of those of working age. With the payment of superannuation pensions, however, some will never have had it so good. What you cannot do is advocate discounts on the basis of individuals - it simply has to be on an average of a grouping as a whole. As I have pointed out, there is some evidence to show that the average pensioner is actually better off than their working age equivalent. Why, then, should they received discounted admission ?? Having said that, I believe that this question is more about the effect that having (or not having) reductions has on speedway's finances rather than whether they are right or not. For myself, I think getting rid of them is likely to actually be detrimental to the amount of money taken at the gate.
