It was a joke, pretty light hearted and not particularly vicious. The individual created the circumstances himself and is hopefully now getting the help he needs to control or more likely kick the habit, stop him from getting in a car to kill himself or others, as well as keeping him free from jail. In the unlikely event that he does see the post/joke, hopefully he sees if for what it is, but if it touches a nerve and spurs him in to more effective rehabilitation then that can only be a good thing.6 points

Alcoholism is a problem that millions of people suffer from... As is anxiety and depression, which if i remember you suffer from.. I'm sure your comment will make him feel on top of the world if he is on here. Think before you post....4 points

I think we should stick to the current rule which is very simple to understand. Every rider in the NDL gets a new current average after completing 4 NDL matches. (Unless your name is Adam Roynon) Any NDL rider who doesn't have a current NDL average is assessed at 2 x your current CL average (unless your name is Adam Roynon, in which case it is assessed at 2 x your CL average of 2 years ago). How can it be any simpler?3 points

For a Newcastle fan, you seem very negative. I would expect most fans would be happy that they can support their team again, even if it is a friendly fixture. It's still a chance to meet up with old friends.3 points

Nicki Pedersen, Iversen and Tungate would be the most feared top 3 in the league.2 points

It's not "This" though is it. And you did put a laughing smiley Flappy lad Alcoholism is a problem, so is depression (which I have), cancer, racism etc. Like Ricky Gervais says "what is life if you can't take the p!ss out of everything". All Comedians should be cancelled. If someone has a problem with jokes, it them that needs to take a look at themselves, not the person telling the jokes. If your alcoholic & find my joke offensive, get help. Alcoholics Anonymous 0800 9177 650 Never let anyone tell you what you find funny is wrong. Life is for living & having a laugh, tomorrow could just be your last.2 points

Here's an idea: Instead of assessed averages being an absolute (and arbitrary) figure replace them with notional appearances with notional points and rides. Example Let's say that our rolling averages are over 8 matches (but the principle is the same whatever number you use) Assessed average of 4.5 equates to 32 rides and 36 points. Say our rider scores 12 from 5 on his debut. We remove 4 rides and 4.5 points from his rolling totals and add the 5 rides and 12 points New average is 5.27 Consider how this might give averages more reflective of their abilities for Adam Roynon, Joe Alcock, George Congreve, Luke Killeen, Ashton Boughen, Luke Harrison.2 points

I have no issue with Roynon riding in the NL, my issue is with his average. As I see it: 1) Roynon didn't have a NL ave when he signed for Plymouth, so raced on an assessed 6.00 ave (double is Champ ave) 2) Roynon didn't ride enough matches for a new ave, so still doesn't have a NL average. Should he not then be starting 2023 on double his Champ average (3.56 = 7.12)? The logic for keeping him on a 6.00 ave is beyond me 3) I believe his 4th match for Plymouth didn't count for the averages as it was after the cut-off date for the playoffs. This is the same as what happened in the top 2 leagues. However it makes no sense in this instance, as wether or not the match took place before the cut-off date, neither Plymouth or Armadale could make the top 4! I strongly dislike this rule as the only possible reason for it, is to stop riders losing on purpose to lower their averages, which is basically suggesting, they expect riders to cheat - a very dissapointing situation! 4) what's even worse is Ashton Boughton ride a 4th match after Roynon's 4th match, but his did count giving him an average. What's the logic of a rule that means a guest will get a new average but a rider in a 1-7 won't?2 points

It really is a good read. Although difficult to get hold of now due to being sold out. Which increases the price considerably. I don’t mind posting my copy to you then return when finished.1 point

I read the Chum Taylor book when it was first published and was a little disappointed that it didn't go into much depth regarding parts of his career, particularly in England. It was written by Geoffrey Miller and maybe he misinterpreted some of the information related to him by Chum as there are some inaccuracies. One that immediately springs to mind is the account of a meeting at Sheffield in 1966, when it claims Chum went through the card. He was actually on the receiving end of a 5-1 against Bob Paulson and Billy Bales first time out and then lost to John Dews in his second race. He did win his other three races in the match, as well as his second half heat and final. It was two days later in the return fixture that his team partner Ivor Hughes received fatal injuries in a track crash. The account in Chum's book about the dispute between the National and Provincial Leagues in 1964 is also vague and ill-informed.1 point

Ipswich and Peterborough have agreed to operate a joint squad system for this season whereby a pool of riders will be available for both clubs to select from on a weekly basis. It is expected that the squad will be added-to from month-to-month according to riders availability. Teams selected will need to confirm to the league points limit, and for matches between the clubs, 14 riders will be chosen, with actual sides being picked before the start of the match using the alternate pick method.1 point

And Anders Michanek caused problems in the weightlifting. Because he is round-shouldered, he was physically unable to lift the bar the same as other competitors.1 point

I once saw Scott Nicholls in a burger King at Washington services. How could a ride be so unprofessional?? He should've been eating a kale salad in his van on the way home, despicable.1 point

David Vine also presented 'The Sports Scene' on BBC2 on Saturdays at around 10.00 p.m. during June, July and early August in 1966. The 35-minute programme reported on the day's sports stories and gave the evening's speedway results. It replaced Match of the Day during the summer but was dropped when the new football season started.1 point

I think I saw PC race Kevin Keegan among others on a bicycle on Superstars? Or did I imagine that? Speedway can only dream of that level of mainstream exposure these days. As for the business with the book signing, I think it's all such a shame. He hasn't behaved well and people are rightly angry about it. However, it's hardly in the same league as what Kenny Carter did and people still think it's okay to laud Carter's achievements as a racer. Likewise we can still appreciate what Peter Collins did on track.1 point

We weren't trying to be clever but due to being told 4 meetings means an average meant that it would be foolish to do so potentially our rider could of ended up being a number 1 this season after only 4 meetings.1 point

Despite all that has sadly transpired before and since the publication of his book there's no getting away from the fact that PC was a great rider during a time that England ruled the speedway world during the sport's last "Golden Era". He was a household name appearing regularly on National TV (the sadly missed "World of Sport" in particular) and I, for one, will never forget his contribution on track and the excitement he generated.1 point

Freddie's long covid issues even forced him to take a break from his Polish racing last season so it's safe to say that he won't be doing a full UK season again imo. Doesn't race in Sweden anymore either now.1 point

Correct a mini track has been installed on the right hand side as you enter the site... all coming together with the delivery of the seating which is a massive mecano set... the pits are 80% built... lights tapes and other trackside equipment ready to go in... New generator acquired that will potentially run the full site... time will be tight but everyone is pulling together... UTC.... an all that... Regards THJ1 point
