  1. I have a holiday caravan in South Devon and, as well as following my home town team, I have followed Exeter Falcons and the Plymouth Devils/Gladiators as well as the Somerset Rebels. At the Arena I have seen some cracking meetings over the years including those when Plymouth started up again and were in speedways third tier. The track might be a bit tricky but I've seen some spectacular overtaking and there's no time for the riders to get strung out like I saw at the NSS on Monday. If anyone reading this is having a holiday in South Devon or North Cornwall this summer, I urge you to go to the Coliseum for a good night's speedway. There's plenty of free parking in the Coypool Park and Ride Car Park and plenty of seating!

  2. In other words there is nothing wrong with it this season. Especially now they have improved it with the extra banking.

  3. Sadly because it fits an agenda used by a minority of the people on this platform. Sadly, this minority won't be happy until they see another club fold and close, without realising the knock on effect of such a decision. It would leave an entire region, not just a city/town - the whole of Cornwall, Devon, Somerset and Gloucestershire without a team. Just let that sink in for a minute? Millions of people without a team to support, they'd rather that happened than see the Gladiators make a good go at things. I really feel for Mark, he's constantly getting battered from all sides (including by riders from other clubs!) despite doing what he can with what he's got. People are more than entitled to their views I get that, hence why we are on a public forum discussing it however most of the time, it's not constructive, it's not helpful and it's hurtful what people say about the Gladiators.... However, it's us against the world and we're going to embrace that!! "No one likes us, we don't care... We are Plymouth..."

  5. Have I missed a forum directive that members have to put their holiday details on the forum?? Surely this would be of no interest to any other poster and pointless!!

  7. I used the Lions stream for the Ipswich match the other week - that started about ten minutes before tapes up - have to say it was very good, am tempted to do so for this match too.

  13. For me it has to be Prague and Torun. Prague being the easiest to get to and plenty to see and do over the visit. Racing wasn’t the best but with the ease of getting to it etc I would good back again. Torun was amazing atmosphere and nice town to stay in. We hired a car to get to it from the airport but there are plenty ways including the fantastic Travel Plus Tours. Thoughts on the your best and others you have visited. ?

  14. It’s a very competitive league this year with teams generally stronger, which is good for the sport. Teams that will make the play offs will be the ones that have top end fire power when scores are tight entering the last three heats. For Leicester to win tight matches, Fricke has to up his game (although tonight he looked a little better) to give the Lions any chance in these situations. The reserves are a worry as many have predicted. At the moment, the Lions are just grateful for wins and bonus points appear to be a pipe dream.

  15. Just got home after a nip and tuck match - thought Sheffield had done enough to throw away what looked at various points to be a routine win, between engine failures and a fall when in points scoring positions, and Tai having a bad night I feared the worst… but hats off to the Holder brothers, they did the business when they had to. Not the most exciting meeting racing wise, but the scores being within a couple of points all night kept it interesting.

  16. Can't agree that's an easy decision. Sedgemen may score more than Kemp, but Riss would score less than Masters.

  21. Well done Aces. As feared man and machine looked rusty and devoid of rhythm on the Lynn side of the pits, need to win more races next home match....against Sheffield

  24. There is a car park at the stadium but gets full pretty quickly if your not there by 6.45 ish Alternative is to still follow the signs to the stadium but park in the shopping complex car park. no charge and four hours limit. We use it all of the time without any problems. Then follow folk to the stadium which is about a 10 minute walk. Enjoy.

  25. Keeping it simple tonight. £20 on a 4/1 TREBLE -> King's Lynn, Leicester and Ipswich to win. King's Lynn shouldn't be losing at Home all season with a team that's been built to win big at the AFA on a consistent basis. Ipswich look very solid in every department imo, Jenkins also knows Oxford very well so I expect an improvement from him tonight, The spires have a couple of riders who have yet to fire (Magic and Klindt) and if that continues then there's only one winner tonight. Normally I wouldn't back Leicester but Sheffield's reserves are just as weak, Difference is you know that the Leicester 1-5 can all ride their own track where's doubts linger over how C. Holder will take to the Leicester circuit.

  27. 4/7 yet to do a meeting over here. Forecast looking a bit more promising, just be good to see us out on track and blow off some cobwebs so to speak. Should be a fairly comfortable home win don’t see us causing too many issues.

  28. Should be safe - like your Lions... Blackburn could go down; four matches left, including Coventry, Leeds, and Leicester.

  32. Looking forward to finally get our home meetings underway. Rob Lyon said on this week’s Pride of the East podcast that a few of the boys had a spin yesterday, so hopefully we’ll be dialled in from the off. Would be much more confident if we’d had those the Leicester and Birmingham meetings under our belt first, but still think we have enough. Stars to win 48-42 (hopefully)

  35. IMO as the rider is missing due to a Non Negative test then the club should only be allowed a guest upto his average

  36. It will but surely thats the wrong way round? Once he is proficient in the NJL then he graduates to the NDL. Im not picking on Parker, thers plenty of riders who have been dropped into the league far too early, i can't even blame the riders for grabbing the opportunity its the promotions who go with the sink or swim mentality.

  38. It seems that more Scottish football clubs were happy to share their stadiums with speedway than South of the border. One of the few I know is Halifax, and of course, they have been out of the EFL for a while now...

  39. Agree, Bears favourites , no idea on the score but think it could be close. Looking forward to seeing the new Comets riders, might be a new track for a few of them but Celina has ridden here before and Zischke and Vuolas will soon get dialled in as most away riders always do. For the Bears a first home team meeting, need Bailey and Mulford to improve from their performance at Scunthorpe, where they were both well off the pace.

  40. He had a great first match, but it's far too early to say he'll be the best reserve in the league imo. Gotta see how he'll do away for a start.

  42. Why do Plymouth get so much grief (on various sites) for their rain-offs? Currently they've raced the same amount of home fixtures (0) as Edinburgh, Glasgow, Oxford (Cheetahs), Redcar & Workington. Plymouth can race on Tuesdays & Saturday, whilst clubs like Edinburgh, Oxford & Redcar also have to fit in 5 NL fixtures. Yet still many act like Plymouth will be the club holding everyone up etc. I just don't get the negativity towards Plymouth?

  45. Visited Riga a couple of weeks ago and really liked the place. Just over 2 hours flight from the UK and the airport is only 20 mins by bus from the town centre. I asked the guy on reception at our hotel how far the track was and he said it's about 20/25 mins by bus from the centre. Will definitely go back for a GP, but not this year. Wroclaw as said above is brilliant. Close airport. Track is served by direct trams taking 10/15 mins and a great town centre. Going to Warsaw in May and will report back.

  46. well, i am glad that i am not the only one!! i collect programmes, only fill in the meetings i go to thou, and i also note passes, falls and where they occur, what lap, and the position in the race they are. also note at the bottom/top/side any warnings, fines etc dished out by a ref. yep..can relate to that! oh yes, and sometimes there can be some handy and useful news in those notes too!! if your looking for club rumours!! thanks Beowulf....you have put my mind to rest..there was me thinking i was the only anorak !!!!

  47. As a programme collector, I of course have to purchase a programme. Not only do I fill in the usual details but I also note the passes i.e. lap and bend that they occurred. I find this very useful when dissecting the match afterwards over a beer when I can back up what I say! Each to their own but I find filling in a programme is part of the enjoyment. Also if you use a programme board, it is useful to wave at the riders on their victory lap. Finally and overlooked, it is nice to actually read the programme and see what the management have got to say for themselves

  48. I think you are wrong there porky, My friend thoroughly enjoyed the meeting inc. the programme filling. If you don't want to fill one in then that's entirely down to personal discretion. I very rairly fill a programme in when I go to Iwade.............I wait for Sean to post the results in on here and then copy it down so it's nice and neat, and then placed with the rest of my collection, that incidently have a value to some people within the sport, eg: World Finals, GP's and for me Wimbledon NLRC back in the 70's nice to look back on and reflect days gone by.
