  1. I've only just finished watching this on my sky-box so apologies for lateness or being repetitive on other comments. 1st of all i'm bloody angry that the world's best race track was reduced to a slick borefest. Who's bloody fault is that? Hang your head in shame Even the mercurial Gollob could get nowhere when he missed the gate late on in the meeting. In the semi, Crumpie did make an error of judgment i believe but Nicki did cut in when he realised he was there. Some ya win, some ya lose. To Steve Turner, yes Hans & Leigh mentioned it.
  2. Mitch Shirra Gary Middleton Rob Grant Snr Nigel Boocock John Harrhy Roger Hill The late Les Owen Tommy Knudsen Sean Wilson Arthur Browning Ron Wilson/ Ray Wilson Tony Davey
  3. The track last night was an inside gate paradise no matter what else folk may think. The Brits didn't do so well cos the majority of their gates we're 3&4. Hans & Nicki we're the only one's that made that disadvantage work for them, & for that they get my applause. Tomasz, i feel took full advantage of the position he found himself in. Having the inside gate when the rain came down won him the meeting. Disappointed with Scott in 19 that he didn't take that advantage fully.
  4. Just 2 words to say. Gate One. Gate One. Gate One. Boring.
  5. It appears that a report in today's Sunday Star says that an admin error has resulted in Olly's failure to be selected. Apparently Jim Lynch was unaware that declarations needed to be made 1 month prior to the British Final, so that is why the decision was made on last years averages. Another cock-up & let's hope that Olly does get a well deserved place in the WC qualifier at Brandon. I'd certainly pick him ahead of Steady right now.
  6. Hey you guys, get this. On Saturday when i was on the way to Lynn, a Coventry fan none the less that was on our bus said to a few people that he thought Jason & Leigh let Bomber go past them, this obviously got around to us all & the suggestion was totally ridiculed. What do you think? Another question, should i name & shame the fool?
  7. I've just looked through the whole of this thread with great interest. I'll mention Bees riders 1st as they're the one's closest to my heart. Les Owen of course stand out a mile for me. Les was never one to turn up any trees but as a team man he was 2nd to none,Les could win you match without scoring a single point, that's how unselfish he was. Howling Gorgon has mentioned Andy Hackett. This lad was a joy to watch, it always seemed that when he was just getting his form back, injury beset him again. Tony Davey is one i certainly agree with, John Berry raves about him in his books, if he hadn't sliced that finger i'm sure he would've beaten John Louis to the top. There are of course riders who have reached the top despite horrific injuries & their courage & determination shouldn't be overlooked, Sam Ermolenko is 1 that springs to mind. Steve Weatherley is another that comes into my thoughts.
  8. Nope, it's just careful planning.Mr Robottom will not catch us out if he does another round like that. :wink:Anyway it'supdating my history file as well.
  9. Excellent Norbold as always. No clues as to the others. Stll need Barnsley, Bolton, Burnley, Leeds & Salford. Also did Nelson have a nickname.
  10. Cheers MJFC, not much change there then.Is that in any way linked to Paisley being The Lions?
  11. Thanks for that one Norbold..I've been looking on the Speedwayresearcher site & these are the only one's i can't place. Would i be right in thinking Lea Bridge we're The Saints
  12. Hi all . I'm looking for the team nicknames of sides that rode in the 30s for a short period(if there we're any) & wondered if any of you scribes could help Barnsley Bolton Burnley Leeds Glasgow (White City) Salford Stamford Bridge Lea Bridge (Clapton) Many Thanks CC
  13. Here is my veiw Nicki. Will be up there amongst the top boys stiil but will suffer from missing EL just as AJ has done. Crumpie.I'm backing Jason to regain the title in 2008 Leigh Adams. 3rd or 4th in 2008 which may or may not be his GP swansong. Hans. Will be there again but needs to cut out the lack of consistency if he's to get in the top 2 Gollob. Needs to master a few tracks still. As with Leigh this may or may not be his last year.2007 ended superbly for Tomasz. A rostrum place if he can be more consistent. Greg. Has been a bit of an enigma in 2007 to say the least.Would hate to see him finish on a low note. Top8 then retire is my veiw. Nicholls. In hindsight maybe his move to Eastbourne will help him on a few GP circuits. Needs to raise his game but what's new.7th or 8th or...or....who knows. Holta. Really surprised me last year & needs to maintain that form to suceed in 2008. Harris. Chris as we know was unlucky last year but maybe he was his own architect of that. That 5 point thing needs to be ditched if Chris is to progress.Chris tried out his new engines at the end of 2007,not to sure how they will work for him but some work needed to be done on that, cos they didn't look quick enough. AJ. Now he is back in EL AJ will not be relying on a nomination in 2008.Still not convinced about the concept of the machine he uses though. Bjarne. Is a far better rider than his position last year. Needs to cut out those last places late in meetings. PUK. Neils is in for a tough GP year again.Top 10 if he does well. Dryml. I have veiws on Lukas that some may not like. He may prove me wrong but he will be 2008's Antonio. Kasprszak. Polish GP's will be his best but needs more if he is to be a success. Lindgren. In my veiw a more solid rider than KK or NKI & wiil possibly get a top 10 place. So there you have it.
  14. Only 1 rider was ever Continental Champion in 2 consecutive years who? & what 2 years?
  15. Well that did'nt take long well done you two for your answers& making my day easy.
  16. That's 1 part of the question correct Schumi. I'll post this poser for our weird freinds also.
  17. As this is my 1000th post i'm celebrating it with a poser for you. In speedway history there have been 4 occasions when riders from the same nation have achieved a clean sweep 1-2-3 on the World Championship rostrum. The question: Name the years & the 3 riders in finishing order. Good luck CC
  18. As i remember the Golden Helmet in the 70s & 80s the match races only occured when the holders team visited a particular track or that rider was racing a home fixture. It would be great to see it come back run on this basis & then there would be no extra travelling costs etc as the competitors will already be at the venue. The holder should race v the top scorer in the opposing team.
  19. So nobody thinks Joshua Auty will be aGP Rider in 6 years time.
  20. Hi all you Aussies out there.I heard from a freind of mine in Queensland today who emigrated from here in Coventry a few years back. She told me that she had been talking to an ex-Bee & the son of a multi world champion who are trying to open up a new track in the area. The 2 guys in question are Mitch Shirra & Kym Mauger. Do any of you Roos know anything about this. I believe it's called Gold Coast Speedway. Is it Up & running.
  21. I thought that the order was qualifiers then nominees,it has been previously & i'm sure i've seen somewhere that it will be again. That is the correct way after all.
  22. Bl***y hell i've started something here haven't i . I didn't mean that Lukas doesn't deserve to be their,he qualified & fairplay to him. Just that i don't think he has the ability to add anything to the series like he did a few years ago. That's not his fault cos alot has happened since then.I'd like nothing better than for him to prove me wrong & suceed but i'm just saying on paper he's the weakest of the 15.All i'm saying with Hampel is that he has a stronger case for being 1 of the world's top 15 but he's failed to prove so & that's why he isn't in & Lukas is.Does that make sense?
