Swc Event 1 - Rybnik
GeneralMelchett replied to Mateusz's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Funnily enough that was my opinion too, Crump squeezed through, just, but clearly his action casued the rider to lose control, in my opinion. -

Quite, he obviously missed the heats involving Loram, Sullivan, Nicholls, Richardson, Wiltshire and lots of others i could mention. I does prove that slick tracks can sometimes produce good racing / action -
Thats the way I interpreted it as well to be honest, he was bascially saying "Hell some you win some you lose, tonight I lost"

Ashworth Over Looked Why ?
GeneralMelchett replied to Phoenix Nights's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Ashworth was and possibly still is a real prospect but he appears to have not made the expected progress. Certainly around Owlerton he is pretty invincible but away from there he does struggle. Nothing wrong with picking someone for specific track knowledge, they picked Sean Wilson in 02, he rode very well, particularly at Owlerton in the qualifier, i'll never forget the poor sods engine failure on the last bend as he led Todd Wiltshire. Such a shame Complin retired, I think he was a real find. -

Hans Andersen Statement

TBH the British GP is a well attended sporting event. In modern times with the exception of Football, Rugby, the National and other big Horse racing events and maybe the F1 GP the Speedway GP in cardiff is one of the best attended events national events, particularly given that it is considered a minority sport. Most stadiums nowadays are vastly reduced in capacity terms, there is no stadium in this country that can even house 90,000 The largest stadium in capacity terms the UK is currently the Millenium (72,500?), altho Old Trafford runs it close. I enjoy my annual trip to the GP and feel speedway, despite all it's shall we shall oddities, is in better shape than it was when i first started watching in 1987. -
Zagar To The Gp 2006!
GeneralMelchett replied to DavidH's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Ok fair enough he has had TWO good seasons at PL level! I'm still not convinced by that tho. If he does move to the EL for 06 and say averages 8 or more then i will accept he is making it on the bigger stage, for now he will still be required to convince a lot of people, myself included. his performance at the PLRC, which i saw was disappointing, just 5 points i think altho he did beat Compton with ease in his final ride. I think you have maybe twisted or misinterpreted what i have said in part. I feel he is an up and comign rider and will be better than Ferjan in the long run BUT as of 2005 he is only proven at a lower level. he has the ability for sure but he needs to prove it consistently before i would suggest he is truly worthy of a GP place. Like i said tho, good, luck to the fella, it's his big chance, i hope he uses it. -
Zagar To The Gp 2006!
GeneralMelchett replied to DavidH's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
All of this is un-necessary if BSI and the relevant people stuck to what they should do and re-introduce the GP challenge for the lower finishing GP series riders, let them ride off against national title winners and ensure a fair and open route the the SGP. Top ten automatically re-qualify Next Five are seeded into the GP Challenge where they ride against 11 other national title winners or riders seeded from the relevant national championship, if the title winner is already in the GP series. The final 16th spot should be a local wildcard. That way there can be no arguments at all, the system is open and not decided by men in suits. I fail to see why Zagar should suddenly be elevated to the GP series. He is a young man and as yet has had one very good season where he has emerged as a genuine talent, but he is by no means the finished article nor better than countless other riders i could name. I do wish him luck however, he is there now so i hope he does well. -
Just think Dekk's after that he could have had Andy Silver for afters, and Brian Karger for cheese and biscuits Wonder who the coffee's would have been? Still he was a good rider and I admired him!

GeneralMelchett replied to a topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I'm sorry but thats one of the biggest overstatements I've ever come across, my hopes and dreams don't depend on us winning the world cup in any sport and if your's do i suggest you get a reality check, otherwise you'll die VERY disappointed! No you're not betting my house, maybe you'd like to bet your own though if your so confident eh? As for Floppy, seeing as he was headed for the scrap heap until last year i suspect he's simply glad to be involved in all this, better to have loved and lost etc! The thing you forget is that NOBODY is FORGETTING, simply moving on! -

I don't know what cloud you came down on but it must have been one of the ones in this mornings showers! Now that the SWC is well and truly over most people seemed to have move on and then people like you pop up with comments like that. I can imagine the reasons why Eastbourne signed Nicki Pedersen, and I can understand why they support him through all his problems apply the same formula to HA! -

Well as an leading campaigner for people "to tell it like it is" i'd have thought he would have welcomed his managers comments do you not think England or team GB whatever they are called were very poor in the period no question, sadly through years of neglect at the very top! I think you'll find i was referring to his peers, and the fans! It's nice to see that despite your dislike of HA you acknowledge a good performance, well bowled sir an attitude that does you credit, its apity some of the other whingers on here can't accept that even if they don't like him etc, he did bloody well on saturday! -

GeneralMelchett replied to a topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
The first one is open to debate currently running to 58 pages on another thread. The second one is without question correct, despite being flawed IMO one cannot deny he bust a gut for team GB but i DO remember (which you may not) Havelock saying he would never ride for Team GB when DJ was in charge.............hightly patriotic. As for being well respected, some like him some don't but the look on his face on Saturday night come 9pm was amusing, looked like he'd just swallowed a wasp -

A comment which to me GM sounds like a statement of a slightly 'superior attitude' if you dont mind me saying that is Sir. I think you'll find its this post originally two paragraphs long and posted at 12.26 amended at 12.53, 20 minutes later and missing some 40 odd words! with about 10 new ones thrown in no doubt when you'd realised what you'd written was rubbish and had a think Kind of ruins the spontaneous nature of our banter don't you think, i know you were up early but. I think other people have a problem with YOUR arrogance so i'll leave it to Diamond Gem to take up the baton whilst i go and give darling another push! -

What a lovely warm glow that must give you. You are also so inept you came back with a second paragraph 10 minutes later However read your post again, "we in generally do not tell lies and 'cheat' in this country could be that you have so much of it in your home land you think that everyone is the same perhaps and you have a natural instinct to trust no ones word." could the phrase ..."you have so much of it in your homeland you think everyone is the same"....not imply you feel that Danes are cheats and "we in generally do not tell lies and 'cheat' in this country" inferring we are morally superior? -

i didn't say you did but one Dane doubting you doesn't make 1/ them all liars and cheats 2/ us morally superior
