  1. I read his interview in the star, he says is is truly sorry for what he did, he also says that if he could apologise to the people directly he would, this suggets maybe it isn't possible for whatever reason.
  2. This is an attempt at vicarious negligence or something similar, the fact is his contract would have been between himself and his club(s) so I am not convinced British Speedway would be the one to have to deal with it, unless they knew that multiple riders had issues and decided to do nothing about it. Of course we have no idea if he was offered / given help or not.
  3. To my mind Shawn was allowed one shot at redemption and ****** it up - Garrity has to have that chance!
  4. It isn't per se but at the same time if you have a 'trade' and this is one of thw ways you can earn a living then if someone is wanting to take a chance on him then he should be allowed to! Having locked him up and he served his time he needs to do something with the rest of his life, given he would have to declare his conviction etc many companies wouldn't take a chnace on him (entirely their choice by the way) - if he was prepared to retrain then companies such as Timpsons might well give him a go! Frankly as a tax payer I want him out there paying something back into the system rather than us footing he bill for him for the next 40 years!
  5. Agreed you either believe in the concept of a shot at redemption or you don't. What Garrity should do is agree to be regulary voluntarily tested if he resumes his career to ensure he remains clean - even out of season. Then if someone takes a punt on him then good for them and he has his chance. If he blows it then no more chances after that. Having seen him ride he certaonly had talent. It does remind me that in a conversation with Sheffield fans eons ago at Olwerton (well 2016) he was described as a 'bad lad' and Speedway was his only hope - so he would be wise if he gets a 2nd chnace to take it and not mess it up!
  6. Bit like the 2026 Premiership then - I'll get me coat! Regardless good to him back and confirmed as round Owlerton he is certainly great to watch - at least I will get to see Speedway in Sheffield in 2026 just need Ipswich to confirm now!
  7. Thats life and in particular business in general - there is a similar process ongoing at SWFC - of course the concept of proof of funds is important (its 50m in the case of Wednesday) as is the fit and peroper persons test, I wonder if they have that in Speedway! (it hasn't made much difference in football)
  8. I seem to be able to find a copy in two of my nearby tescos so I usually buy it there when I remember, I wouldn't subscribe now - we often get out post for the week seemingly delivered in one go on a friday or a saturday!
  9. The lads looked after himself and you can't blame him - huge talen and i have enjoyed watching his progress at Foxhall
  10. To give old Kelv his due when he rode for Arena at the back end of his career despite having a bad hip etc we was very effective, suspect he might just be too old now!
  11. Have to say I can't see that myself but there you go. Of course Charles Wright possibly has a different view but Brennan comes across really well and gives his all, to my mind nothing to even compare with Perdersen (who fo course was going to be a Tiger in 2020!)
  12. based on your summary of value Sheffield will be paying people to buy the club!!!
  13. just googled this as had no idea who this chuff or the spouse was - oh!!! 😅
  14. It's the same in football - the days of the local wealthy businessman owing a club are long gone now its all million or billionaires - in fact Millionaires propbably can't own a club outside the top 2-3 divisions now as they are not rich enough! It was very telling that when the Blades last got into the premiership their owner the only Sheik who seemed potless immediately put them up for sale as I suspect he realised he couldn't bankroll a premiership team!
  15. Reading through this its clear we have had a few characters over the years - Simmo going missing seems to be a theme as he quit Arena mid way through 1989 after his ankle injury, never to be seen again. Always had a soft spot for leaping Len when Andrew was riding for Arena he was usually around. I always had a lot of time for Peter Thorogood - down to earth fella and they ran a tight ship at Arena - mainly cos they had too! When Terry Russell and Ivan Henry came in i felt he was cast aside somewhat (unfairly) and then when they quit to head off to Hackney - he was back rescuing us in 1996! By all accounts the Northern tours were very much what happens on tour stays on tour!
  16. well run clubs don't call off a fixture cos the pit gate needs fixing!
  17. Define badly or well run? By virtue of what you have typed here virtually every sports club in the UK is badly run as virtually none of them can operate on gate receipts alone! That's from Man U all the way down to the Sheffield Sharks Basetball team!
  18. I think Wed usually do a pre season match there - we have a few other local sides Sheffield FC and Stocksbridge in the local county FA cups they always ensure a sell out which is 1500 However Hallam are on the up - i went Xmas 2007 i think it was and saw tem play in front of crowds of about 90-100 - they now average well over 500 per game - I am sure they picked up some diasaffected Owls but overall they are well up on ten years ago
  19. There is, I saw a worldy of a free scored for Hallam FC the other week, as good as any you will see in the Premier League - however that was dispatched in front of 549 fans which for an non league football match is healthy - but a somewhat dull and unspiring Steel City derby yesterday was attended by 32k and we didn't see a stunning free kick! In some respects all sports need a bit of a reset as costs have been outweighing revenues for years.
  20. yes or Emil show his complete mastery of the throttle, or even Danny pull off a outside pass, if Ipswich and Sheffield dont come to the tapes in 2026 then it will have to be just the occasional trip to either Scunthorpe or Belle Vue
  21. No idea if this has any truth / mileage or not but it would be interesting to see a proper sound business man operate a top tier club - you can't deny Tru7 are a proper operation.
  22. Well this would be an interesting time for the fans to come good and buy the club 😉 In another sport - AFC Wimbledon announced recently that a fan owned model isn't sustainable in football at the level they operate at, I rather suspect it wouldn't in top tier speedway speedway either!
