  1. Nice to see an interview or rather Q&A with Peter Thorogood in last weeks edition - he will be 93 this year!! Another speedway legend for all he has done for the sport over the years particularly at Arena
  2. TY Terry for the great seasons at Arena - RIP
  3. have said for a while that points money (if it still exists for some) should be for finishing the race not starting it!
  4. Decent side with continuity in the key spots - reserves could be a weakness but overall i reckon they will be fine top 5 spot awaits 😉
  5. Not sure Cloughies methods would work nowadays!
  6. As an Arena fan always have a huge amount of time for 'awesome Richard Lawson' solid and reliable wherever he rides!
  7. In a copy of the star a few weeks ago there was also an interview with Jake Allen and he alluded to riders not being paid and it seemd he wasn't talking about the UK either he as going tofiscus on riding UK and championship only - not quite the vertabim quote but it was something like 'whats the point of riding being promised the earth and not being paid' - he talked of rider sbeing owed fair substantial sums Seems that TV money generally just goes straight to the riders and the big elite survive and the others struggle - its the same for so many sports!
  8. Invoking the SAS implies an elite service - not sure that holds for speedway futures maybe Trotters Independent Traders!!
  9. Despite the chuntering on here once Louis had decided to sell up he was up against it time wise to get this sorted - it’s to his and the buyers credit they have managed to get this in place inside 8 weeks (even less) - if hadn’t - all hell would be breaking loose here! Let’s hope all is in order and the sale goes through smoothly.
  10. It was a bit like James Hunt and Murray Walker at times wasn't it!😅
  11. 1/5th at the title too! down from 1/7th from 2025!
  12. Gosh old KB - we had him at Arena in i think 1990 him and Kevin Teager when injuries hit, to be fair to Brice he was quite effective at reserve seem to recall him banging in a few good scores
  13. I was at one of those matches, I always feel Tom rides Sheffield fairly well, but feel he is better suited to Ipswich anyway.
  14. Can't say I was - would rather have had Doyle and Emil but there you go, love Dan but couldnt see hoim at Foxhall ,myself when he has the NSS to ride each week. Must admit didn't see the Kildemend signing coming but he is good to watch so be interesting to see how he does. Not so convinced about Blordorn however he hasn't made the progress i would have wanted / expected of him if I was an Aces fan.
  15. Bit like Patrick Bamford when at Leeds slagged off the Blades and their manager - then what happened 🤣
  16. straight to the money spinner cup semi finals too! Lets see what 6pm brings!
  17. I once had to make a decision on employing someone who had a spent conviction - he was upfront about it, as required, very concerned that we might withdraw the offer of a job, we employed him. Its down to the individuals concerned I suppose.
  18. I agree in many ways but as ever context is key on everything! Anyway we are going round the houses here so probably just have to disagree. Lets hope if he does get a chance to ride somewhere he embraces it and makes something of it.
  19. well the connection was that you can go on and make something of yourself despite a crimninal past! It maybe a tough long hard road but it can be done!. I wasn't connecting it to sport so perhaos a abetter example might have been used but Martindale was one of the few i could think of!
  20. Yes I am aware of what out licence means etc - Given his breaches I do not think they are enough to write him off as a lost cause (just yet!) it’s worth noting that his recall still didn’t see him serve the full remainder of his sentence / otherwise he’d be in til 2027! Like I said had he gone out robbing the elderly again I’d be happy to say enough get back inside and don’t come out! what he did was truly despicable particularly targeting elderly and vulnerable and I had also recall having chats with people at Owlerton about him with Sheffield fans at the time they were crowing about how good he was in the 2016 season and I said Robert Lambert was a better long term prospect after their match V Newcastle due to him being a wrong un etc -I even have said on here where is Garrity now as an example of how he’d fallen and Lambert had gone in to great things. I know he is a low life and maybe in just 5 years you will be on here saying ‘I told you so’ but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t get one chance to try and get his life on track! You should read up on a guy called David Martindale.
  21. I haven't been to Glasgow since 2022, but think its old Arthur Wellesley (Duke of Wellington) similarly in Edinburgh ( a city I visit regularly as my lad lives there) the statue of Adam Smith in front of St Giles Cathedral always used to have a traffic cone on its head - the cone was actually removed for the Queens lying in state etc in 2022. I think its a mix of student and local humour!
  22. Well I am not really convinced it does for me, as his recall suggested (assuming everything posted previously on this thread was either true and posted in good faith) that it was either for a punch up whilst out on licence or he was beaten up by his old cronies whilst out. Had he say gone out robbing the elderly again i might be inclined to say yes and that there shoud be no 2nd chance. re your 2nd point agreed we should always be preared to say to someones face what we either say behind their back or when they are not present.
  23. I read his interview in the star, he says is is truly sorry for what he did, he also says that if he could apologise to the people directly he would, this suggets maybe it isn't possible for whatever reason.
