  1. Garrity for Sedgmen? You're having a laugh!!
  2. Exactly the same for me Shads. The queues for a table were round the block. Now it's mushy crap especially in the service stations.
  3. Harry Ramsden? Mind you they are pretty crap since they started franchising out.
  4. Plenty of other sports involved too according to Alex - http://www.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/sport/speedway/monarchs-sure-aussie-aces-will-be-granted-work-visas-1-3672706
  5. Alex is hopeful - http://www.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/sport/speedway/monarchs-sure-aussie-aces-will-be-granted-work-visas-1-3672706 Lot of other sports involved too (27!!).
  6. I have dug out some old programmes and can provide most of the results as follows........... 1 August 1970 - Wembley v Exeter Two LAP Dash (1) Reidar Eide beat Martin Ashby 35.8 Two Lap Dash (2) Ole Olsen beat Bert Harkins 35.1 (out of interest the fastest time of the night was 71.8) 29 August 1970 - Wembley v Wolverhampton I don't seem to have this programme. 5 September 1970 - Wembley v Coventry The Cinders - One lap flying start Reidar Eide 17.3 9 September 1970 - Wembley v Halifax The Cinders - One lap flying start Eric Boocock - race did not take place (he didn't finish his subsequent 2nd half race either so maybe he had bike trouble?) Instead there appeared to have been a 3 lap match race in which Dave Jessup beat Barry Thomas in 55.4. 26 September 1970 - Wembley v Newcastle The Cinders - One lap flying start Ronnie Moore 17.6 3 October 1970 - Wembley v European Stars The Cinders - One lap flying start Ole Olsen 17.3 Always seem to have been a good variety of 2nd half events that season. In 1971 they were generally the standard 8 heat affairs - 1 Reserves race; 4 Trophy qualifiers; 2 Trophy semi-finals ; 1 Trophy final. So 21 heats each week!!
  7. Wish I had known this before I dashed out this afternoon to get my application in the post.
  8. Aaron says he has a British passport - "through his family".
  9. Sun today EEN tomorrow. Interesting that the EEN's speedway reporter has the same initials as Rangers major shareholder. Do we ever see the 2 of them in the same place?
  10. Might be blasphemy but I have to say the Glasgow side looks pretty strong now with Spud signed up. Might depend on whether Kozza gets his visa, but they could fit in last year's number 1 (Theo) instead if he didn't get it. A number 1 coming in as a number 4 is a good improvement.
  11. Sam & Sedge will be back - maybe not quite in time for the weegies, who knows but I think they'll be back. Keep the faith!
  12. Update/comment from Edinburgh site............. http://www.edinburghmonarchs.co/news/article.asp?id=1921&utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter
  13. I wouldn't be too relaxed. If it stays pear shaped, there may need to be changes across the whole league given there are probably not 20+ available riders of suitable strength. So points limits might need to be changed and fixtures possibly redrafted.
  14. So chop out the aussies who live here during the season, spending money which helps the economy, and pay their vat if not other taxes. And replace them with EU riders who fly in and out for each meeting and don't spend money here. Hardly helps the country. And I doubt there are 20+ British riders of an equivalent standard who don't have a team place and are waiting for the phone call. Not a good situation at all. Maybe the 42.5 limit will have to be reviewed and a lower figure introduced. So all teams would then be affected.
  15. Recall would only work if the rider wanted to go back.
