  1. He was Stanley Cecil Mauger, b.1906 in Guernsey - he married local girl Evelyn Lilian Prentice in Coventry in 1935 Afraid I cannot trace them after this
  2. "Travellers" are back - http://www.coventrytelegraph.net/news/coventry-news/coventry-bees-brandon-stadium-gypsies-13579787
  3. Fair comment - there was no indication (as far as I had seen) as to where the incident and hold up occurred, so it was unfortunate for Jason indeedNevertheless, I'm not sure about delaying the start of a meeting due to the late arrival of just one rider, no.1 or not If he had been delayed longer, would the meeting have been further held back, or started on time without him? Precedents are dangerous things, and tend to have bad knock-on effects - that's just my concern Thanks for providing the details of the accident
  4. Like Philip Rising, agree with thisSo, those are the problems . . . . How do we go about solving them? It's one hell of a mess - one hell of a mess compared with the past So . . . Perhaps a return to the past might actually be a good idea!
  5. That might just bring some armchair fans back through the turnstiles!
  6. Thank you for such an intelligent, educated, input into this thread
  7. Get out of bed the wrong side, Sidney? A light-hearted remark about how many autographs of one rider you need, and off you go on one! Calm down, calm down! Anyway, you're wrong, Sidney - what I said was that in my opinion Ole Olsen rode for himself and could never be considered a team player in the mould of a Nigel Boocock or a Chris Harris Yes, I saw him team ride, particularly mini-Ole Alf Busk, but I still stick by my original comment, which you deviously - or erroneously - misquoted That's naughty, Sidney - and the word is "have", not "of" Not taking the pee at all, see my correct quote which did not refer to being able to team ride
  8. Whilst that is very very sad indeed - it's a trifle bewildering how Doyle appears to have been the only rider delayed by the accidentPerhaps this suggests that he was running quite late anyway Tragic though the incident was, Doyle I assume would have only missed one ride - surely that's how it should have been Tough luck, maybe, but the riders must ensure that they're at the track in good time
  9. How many times did you get Anders Michanek's - surely you only need it once!
  10. Talk of two fixed nights? I recall the days when I'd attend Birmingham (Mon), Leicester (Tue), Coventry (Sat) every week, coupled with occasional trips to Sheffield (Thu) and Wolverhampton (Fri) - oh, and Wembley on the Saturdays in 1970 when stocks were at Brandon One year, my job took me occasionally to Exeter, and that was always planned so I was at County Ground on the Monday night Wouldn't be able to do all that again on fixed nights - it was the only way to see speedway, as it wasn't on tv (television - that's still one of the main reasons in my opinion why attendance levels at tracks have fallen, it's much too easy to sit back in the armchair to view our wonderful sport)
  11. Why should the start time be delayed due to the late arrival of a rider? Is it covered by the rules?
  12. Whose decision was it? Riders or promoter?
  13. No - I didn't think the best British rider ever was still racing! I've read some strange comments from you on the forum, but this one takes the star prize!
  14. As the BSPA chairman is present at KL tonight, will he take the KL promoter to task over this fiasco?
  15. Best I've seen in 53 years
  16. Must just mention that, 50 years ago today, 19 August 1967, Coventry Bees beat Exeter Falcons and Glasgow Tigers in a BL double-header at Brandon. They used rider-replacement for the absent Rick France, and Nigel Boocock, riding at no.5, recorded back-to-back five ride 15 point maximums in the two fixtures. It may have been done elsewhere, sometime, but I thought it worth recording Booey's feat
  17. Will he achieve as much as Chris Harris did in the GPs if he does qualify? (9 podiums, I think it was)
  18. Can you translate, please - seems predictive text may have intervened!
  19. From Somerset's official website: ‘Cases’ Somerset Rebels v Leicester Lions SGB Premiership Oaktree Arena Monday 14th August Gates Open 6.00pm, Tapes-Up 7.30pm
  20. Read over and over how good this track is But tonight? Is this yet another case of a track being prepared under the direction of Gospeed, rather than the locals, for a TV meeting?
