  1. Picking up on some of those points: Agree about the Golden/Silver Helmet. Once a month defended against the the rider with the highest average at the end of the month (i.e The riders average for that month only, not rolling average etc.). Newcastle had a billboard near St James' Park footy ground (which is also next to a Metro Startion), not sure that brought in many extra punters. The cost of that could be prohibitive to some clubs, though. Proper promotion/relegation won't work, simply due to the financial clout of going up. If Birmingham, Peterborough and Ipswich couldn't hack the EL (and Eastbourne are said to be in trouble), what chance many PL teams lasting? I'm not too fussed about a Prog. to be honest. I'll buy one, but if it's just a race card (like Somerset and Sheffield used to do), then that's fine too. Don't quite agree with the Scunthorpe £1 for two A4 pages stapled together, though. Either give it away free, or do it properly and charge £2/£2.50. Finally, totally agree about the 'event.' Clubs are basically wanting people to turn up, see 15 heats of speedway and go home. There is nothing else to turn up for (apart from seeing mates etc.). Speedway is dying on it's a*se. It needs to re-invent itself. Go back to basics. Cut costs. Lower admission prices. Make it special. Then it might have a chance of survival, otherwise it will die.
  2. Can some kind person please explain, how, in the latest BSPA Greensheets issued on Wed 23 July, is Danny King still on 11.18?? By my calculations he's ridden 5 away matches (I believe his 4th away match was at Sheffield and we were at Somerset the following night). Surely he should now be given a 'proper' average?
  3. Maccy Dees up the road (top of Shields Road). There are various shops on Chillingham Road. They sell chips etc., in the main restaurant (don't know what they are like though!).
  4. Is it a case of if the SWC meeting at Lynn is called off, the re-staging date is Sunday (I think), and Sheffield are 'covering all the bases' in case of that happening? If it goes ahead on Sat, Steady then can ride Sunday? Or have Team GB said they want the squad to remain together and they can't ride whilst Team GB are still in the Competition?
  5. The best way, maybe, is wait a while before you post. Even if it's the day after. Not to post ever again on a Newcastle thread is going a bit too far (in my opinion, obviously!!!)!!!
  6. Copied from the SCB rules & regs for 2014: 19. NATIONAL LEAGUE MEETING REGULATIONS Known as the National League, it’s official name is the National Development League to clarify that this is the entry level league dedicated to the training and development of young home grown Riders.
  7. I thought there was a third rider involved, but couldn't remember who it was.... I just remember George shouting.. "There trying to kill each other!!!"
  8. He was 2nd in his opening ride, but took a tumble in his 3rd ride, which may have aggravated it, as he retired in his 4th (and last) ride.
  9. More often than not, the start marshall has them lined up correctly, but as soon as he walks away, the rider moves back. This, to me, should be an instant disqualification/exclusion. That would then stop any rolling, as they will be lined up correctly at the tapes. Alternatively, a line behind the bikes at the start could be implemented, any back wheel that touches the line before the tapes go up, either disqualification/exclusion or a 15 metre handicap.
  10. I seem to remember Nicki trying to knock Jesper Olsen off...... his team-mate..... at Press & Practice...... George English nearly had kittens/a heart attack* *Delete where applicable!
  11. Simon said on his Facebook status last night he was "pumped" for his "proper home debut tomorrow" so he should be riding tonight.
  12. It's the big problem for Workington every season. They don't seem to have any luck in that category at all, year on year.
  13. Banned for what? Not being able to get back for a fixture after an FIM meeting, the same as Lasse Bjerre? I don't think so.
  14. I started a thread at 1.30pm yesterday, but the interest is so strong, it's got shuffled down onto page 2!!!
  15. Quite a few seem to see the 'golden' tracks in Poland, but it doesn't always work out like that. No idea why it hasn't worked out for Richie, as I don't follow what happens in Poland (to be fair, I don't really follow what's happening in the British Elite League!). I've just never liked the idea of going back to a rider (same as in football), who wanted to leave. Of course we have done it before (Christian Henry, Dickie Juul and Robbo are three that spring to mind), but, I like the old adage "never go back!"
  16. I'm guessing you mean Anders Mellgren? He's signed for Rye House (replaced Mat Tres). And Richie is still at Ipswich and already said last season he didn't want to ride for us, so why go back to him (even if he wants to come back)?
  17. If it's 8.80 that puts us on 42.28, so only 0.22 to play with.
  18. I agree with what your saying, but, for whatever reason, we don't seem to want to 'juggle' the team around for away matches. I think having Robbo at 5 would help and put Ludde to 3, as we know Lewi K (generally) can look after himself. That could be suicidal if that's case. Fans (quite rightly) would be saying "if they can't be bothered, then why the hell should I."
  19. The post I was replying to was directed at a particular rider, I believe, not the team as a whole.
  20. So, we will just ignore the last two home matches shall we? I wasn't there, but was it not a case that no one else was worth putting a B & W on, as they were all riding poorly?
  21. With Belle Vue probably the only EL team in the North, presumably? Also, that'll be like the British Cup, that lasted all of one season.
