  1. Couple that with the image of Godfrey doing that press conference in his caravan* a year or so ago I'm surprised that big business and the media aren't falling over themselves to be involved! Sorry not his caravan but in his front room with drawn curtains and very poor light
  2. Those direct quotes made me laugh when I read the on the website a few days ago. As I said elsewhere those quotes are a mix of a dictatorships propaganda machine & someone who's high on something!! Certainly no real sane person ever said them
  3. Something along those lines could work. The old four competition from the 80s & 90s used to give cracking value for money and bags of entertainment. The only issue I think would be could the track surface handle that amount of action? In the old days with plenty of dirt no issues but now with most of the dirt removed I'm not so sure.
  4. League racing will never give the buzz excitement or the drama while those who ride in opposition one night are team mates the next. The business model is flawed and everyone can see it except those that are in charge. The old like it or don't bother coming mentality will have only one outcome. Sadly that outcome is probably 5 to 10 years away at best. Whatever happens you can be sure it's all in the "interest of speedway"
  5. Speedway could tap into it if it was run in a professional manner. Look at Poland those type of companies falling over themselves to be involved, multiple TV companies bidding for the TV rights. To stand any chance of getting those blue chip companies involved one of two things need to happen. Firstly the sport reinvents itself and becomes something that these companies want to be involved with that will take time. Secondly the sport draws up proposals to do something completely different and sells that vision to said companies although they would then be bound by a contract to deliver. You have to remember uk speedway had 10 plus years of lucrative TV contacts with sky and did absolutely nothing to reinvent it's self. If your were the board of a big blue chip company would you want your brand associated with uk speedway in its current guise? I wouldn't.
  6. The piece on Mr Rising is very poor they should hang their heads in shame. As for the "what the fans say" what's written seems to be a mix of work by a dictatorship's propaganda department & a half wit who's high on something.....
  7. Maybe nothing new, however still makes a mockery of the sport. With your reply it's also proof if proof was needed that the powers that be are incapable of bringing about the change that is required. If Rick Miller also did something similar then the powers that be have done nothing in at least 30 years to try and correct it. The only thing to have happened in 30 years is a steady decline in attendance numbers, national & local press coverage. It's a sad fact but if speedway was a dog it would have been put out of its misery years ago.
  8. Look no further than Newcastle yesterday. A double header Newcastle v Poole followed by Newcastle v Plymouth. Alfie Bowtell rides for both Poole & Plymouth how can you take it seriously!!
  9. Once plenty of great riders came though the grass Louis,Loram,Screen, Schofield etc etc
  10. A business plan, 1.Your staff will demand far more money than is coming into your business to find expensive equipment that is totally unsuited to the UK operation but they insist on having it because they do in other market places that have both the infrastructure & income to support it. 2.your staff demand these high wages in an attempt to survive for 12 months on 6 months income. 3.While your paying these unaffordable wages your staff can also sign a contract with another employer all be it in a slightly different sector of the same industry. While this has no direct disruption to your business as this sector works on a different day there is a risk of the employee injuring themselves or burning themselves out that would effect your business massively. 4.In addition to working in a slightly different sector your employees can also guest work for your direct competition as long as you're not open on that day. This could affect your business directly though injury to said employees or their efforts for your direct competition could mean that your competition is more successful than you thus costing you loss of income. All of the above is driven by a desire too become champions of your sector however points 2 to 4 mean that rising to the top has very little reward apart from a brief mention in your local paper because these points make the industry a non event. Finally should you succeed in achieving all your targets for the year and who knows even breakeven doing it then the other jealous employers in your sector will ensure that the employment rules are changed for the following year meaning they can grab your prized assets to being them success thus directly affecting your business. All this is overseen by the auditors who are infact the owners of both your direct and indirect competition who can change rules at a drop of a hat 'in the interest of your industry' Should you succeed in getting backers for your business plan make sure you don't mention the way the biggest market in the world can also control your employees with you having any say.
  11. The ironic thing is all these rule changes, manipulation of the rules the guest fest and doubling up and down are all done "in the interest of speedway" couldn't make it up!! The short answer is the product is not worth the admission charge and the rules governing the product are rubbishe.
  12. That's when team management involved tactical decisions, the rules of today don't allow for it. Your number 1 must ride at 1 what a crap rule that was to bring in
  13. I wonder if we'll see Crump again with only 4 weeks of the season to go?
  14. Surely you can't be questioning the tactical genius that is Richie? ;-)
  15. Ipswich my local track are one of the better on social media activity & also have a great tie up with the football club. An indicator of how much work is need last night match report on Facebook. A big local Derby with king's Lynn the Facebook match report gets a total of 47 likes & 5 comments.
  16. Why is speedway failing? The video at the start of this thread is pretty spot on add that to views that have been aired on any number of threads on here then the answers are all here to see. Too much doubling up, too many guests, poor racing, lack of value for money & a rule boom that is a complete farce. Just a quick visit to the Ipswich thread and the arguments & disagreement between different fans on who can & can't guest for who & when. The arguments about what average is used or not used for team building when replacing a rider makes the whole thing a joke! However in conclusion the issues the sport has today have been around for the last 20 years at least & the powers that be seem to do nothing. Do I have hope that they will start to address the issues now? No not really sadly the result will be an extinct sport by 2030.
  17. Fee options to be honest, it's ride this season out & turn attention to 2022 although I think there needs to be a change of direction throughout British speedway next year. As for Ipswich 22 for me Crump is a no go even if he wants to carry on. The one surprise this year is the form of Kemp I didn't think he would struggle as much as he has.
  18. I think Eurosport were the only ones willing to even give a token amount for the rights. Let's not forget that the BSPA had a very lucrative TV deal with Sky for many years and did absolutely nothing with it. The result sky terminated the last deal a year early.
  19. I would have thought running on a bio fuel like methanol has got to be a positive if the sport ever decided to market itself in these environmentally sensitive times. If you're looking for alternatives then electric is your only option. Development of petrol engine for speedway now would be a huge step back.
  20. Interesting read this. Surely the time has come for a major overhaul from top to bottom including the rulebook, machinery, league structure race format etc etc. I'll possibly be better placed to comment further after my visit to Ipswich next week. The scarry thing is how many times have I read that so & so meeting was a bore fest with crap racing on this forum in all honesty I've lost count! And this is supposed to be a supporters form.....if your own customers think that you ain't got a hope of bringing new ones in & more importantly keeping them!
  21. It wouldn't have anything to do with him refusing to ride for team GB all those years ago.... 🤔 not unheard of for the BSPA to hold a grudge!
  22. I'm still unhappy with the doubling up rule and would like to see it banned however to bring back a rule that seems penalise only one or two riders is mad. They would have been better off bringing back that rule for the start of 2019 thus allowing all those that want to double up the chance to while also putting aline in the sand to start phasing it out.
  23. That looks good to me. I was disappointed that Gino wasn't coming back I think he could have done a Heeps. However the German is an exciting signing 👍
