1970's or 2020's?
cowboy cookie returns? replied to Hamish McRaker's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
I think it’s quite clear now. Mayfield want to try & move the sport forward both domestically in the UK & at gp level. They seem aware that they need to bring some of what Poland do to the uk but also that they need to work with the poles. The question is can they drag the BSPA with them or do Mayfield end up walking away in 5 years. I get the feeling this is really last chance saloon. -
Lynn v Leicester 1/6/26
cowboy cookie returns? replied to Bagpuss's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
It’s going to be an interesting couple of years. It’s forward thinking people like Mayfield at Ipswich vs it’s our plaything like those at Lynn. The sport needs Mayfield to win out however I think we all know how this ends. The current promotions who have been around years win out & drive the Mayfields out leaving the sport to die out. -
1970's or 2020's?
cowboy cookie returns? replied to Hamish McRaker's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
No idea the 70s were before my time. To be honest dispite the likes of Rickardsson, Gollob & more recently Doyle & Emil my favourite era at Ipswich was 89/90 in the National League. Plenty of teams & characters the sport just seemed more fun. Even though my all time favourite is the Cowboy. -

And like most things got too expensive with ticket prices & the uplift in hotel costs. -

And if those aren’t willing to change Mayfield will walk away -

Mayfield being a successful business probably saw lack of return on Bangs. We have all followed this sport long enough to know that a 28 day replacement for ‘illness’ means he ain’t coming back. Kennett is cheaper no flight costs. Allows mayfield to see the year out with lower costs & with crowds still holding up. The real issue is if in a year or two nothing has changed in British Speedway then mayfield will probably walk away. They won’t allow the rest to ruin their chance of making the sport in general & Ipswich especially more attractive. Kennett for bangs maybe the first sign things aren’t what they expected, the real test will be this winter & the team they put together for 27 -

Personally I’m gutted it’s the home leg on the Monday. I’ll have been at latitude all weekend & will be packing up & travelling on the Monday. So pretty much rules me out of attending -

I thought king was just riding that well known Sheffield high dirt line. -

This Witches team is certainly performing above my expectations! One defeat at Belle Vue which we knew would happen is pretty impressive. Could be dark horses & I’m still expecting Bangs & Nicholls to get better -

I’m not arguing your general point. All I am saying is the money that will come into the town on match days isn’t to be sniffed at & the money those bars will generate today & indeed over the weekend is significant. -
PANDERING TO POLAND
cowboy cookie returns? replied to adonis's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Possibly 18 to 22 depending one way or another. The British league really has no option but to go along with what Poland wants. We have run our league structure into the ground while the Poles have made theirs something that people want to invest in. I am hopeful that Mayfield might be the ones to stop the rot & turn the fortunes of uk speedway around but it’s a long road. -

But on match days the pubs & restaurants are packed. Even more so now they have been promoted with more away fans coming. Its great for the town -

Probably because most of the players & management will be on holiday. Letd be honest the council will not put back an event that will be bring close to 40000 into the town centre in favour of a speedway match at Foxhall that will attract 4000 & bring no money into the town centre. -

A couple of things that always concerned me about this bank holiday fixture. Firsty Lynn visiting for the second time in a month would likely hit the attendance. Secondly of Town got promoted there was always going to be an event in the park to celebrate in the bank holiday Monday. Two years ago I tried to do the football celebration & the speedway and although the main bit finished in plenty of time to get to Foxhall the traffic in town ment I didn’t get there. -

If Jenkins does all the May meetings while Bangs is banned he might ride himself into keeping the number 6 race jacket. -

2 home meetings in & I have been surprised by the team doing better than I thought. Its also good to see that the new owners are investing with the new big screen hopefully just the start. However it feels like something is missing the atmosphere feel good factor seems lacking. My be it’s the loss of Emil & Jason or the new presenter or a combination of the 2 I’m not sure. I have certainly come away feeling flat after the first 2. -
Aces v Witches 20th April 7:30

We did better than I thought we would. We all know Nicholls will struggle on these bigger faster tracks these days. I still think we will surprise a few this year however ultimately to stand a chance of winning anything this year we need to be able to overturn Sheffield Leicester &Belle Vueover two legs. Mayfield have a free pass this year & the boys don’t have any real pressure or expectations. -
Two meetings in for the new era Witches & so far I’ve been impressed. On track the same professionalism off track things seem to have kicked on a bit with social media interactions. The early signs are that Mayfield will keep their word & build on the Louis legacy. I think we all know this season is probably as season of consolidation before moving forward again in 27. I can think of at least one young rider mayfield need to talk to for 27. Until then I think we are in for an enjoyable 26 & we might even surprise a few along the way.
