Going left field here but anyone know what Sam Masters Average would be? How about Worrall Lanham Tungate Heeps Masters Ellis Bates I.ve put Lanham in as you need some experience & he can still be a good second string. I would love to see Manzares at Foxhall but have a feeling he is EL bound. -
When Is A Rider Considered Too Good?
cowboy cookie returns? replied to barrow boy's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
I don't think you should try to force a rider to move into the top league just because he has a high average you might end up losing that rider to the sport. Going back to my younger days I remember the likes of Richard Knight Mark Loram & Chris Louis moving up from the old National League in to the top flight while one of the best riders of the time Andy Galvin stayed put with Hackney in the National League. No matter how great the set up is riders will always choose to ride at a level that suites them. The doubling up rule should only be in place for the reserves however I think we are too far down that road now i doubt there are enough riders to restrict it to reserves only. It will be interesting to see what the real gap between el & pl is next season. -

As there seems to be plenty of names being plucked out of thin air how about Gollob on a 9? Richie Worrall seems a good bet or I think. Gino Manzares would be cool but I suspect he will be EL. -

British Speedway Promoters Meeting
cowboy cookie returns? replied to dantodan's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
How many of the top riders are contracted over here? The sport in the UK was in decline in the 1980's when 99% of the top riders rode here......so in answer I don't think that the standard of riders makes too much difference. The main things are in this order Valve for Money Atmosphere & quality of racing ie close/passing. -

Rule Changes For 2014
cowboy cookie returns? replied to uk_martin's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Simple really. Old tac sub rule 6 points or more down after 6 heats then you can use it any rider can take one tac sub ride. The team manager can programme his top 5 in any order he likes those two changes would mean that the team manager would have to manage & get the best out of his team like the old days. -
Speedway On Eurosport

Why all the moaning gp speedway is still on tv & being seen by many more armchair viewers I would suggest as eurosport is part of most sky/virgin tv packages. The channel is also the home of motorbikes & lets not forget that they seemed to obtain the rights late on. It would be nice to see Scottie Nicholls involved next year thou. If they also get Polish league that would be good. One last thing are they showing the world cup? -
[quote name='gustix' timestamp='1372454431' I think further back than that - how about the period from the mid-1950s onwards until Mike Parker formed the Provincial League at the start of the 1960s? Wasn't the Shawcross Inquiry into the adverse situation existing between the National League and Provincial League rather than what was wrong with speedway? But that's an off-the-top-of-the-head memory from an oldie - I could be wrong. Not sure either i'm too young however were the British & National leagues not formed off the back of it & the expansion of tracks & the mini crowd boom of the 70's & 80's?
-
If the sport offered value for money & had respect from outside I think things might change remember the crowds were dropping while times were good, The big problem is not what has happen over the past couple of years the problems go way back to the 1980's.
-
Looks like Speedway Star could well be an interesting read next week. I just hope that the powers that be take onboard now that things need to change & start the planning for that to happen from next season. Is it time for another Lord Shawcross type of thing as was done in the 1960's?
-
It would be interesting to hear Mr Rising from the speedway star thinks about all this & if he thinks the sport will sort its self out in this country.
