A referee threatened to cancel the meeting between Munkebo and Esbjerg unless Munkebo immediately put some flood lights up. Eventually Munkebo managed to borrow some lights normally used a construction sites and put them on the inner field protected by hay bals (balls?) However the referee was not impressed since temporary solutions both poses a safety risk as well as well as obstructing the view. Munkebo claimed that they had received approval from a DMU official but DMU claims that they hadn't approved it. The article doesn't say if the meeting was held or postponed. http://www.fyens.dk/sport/Munkebo-tvunget-til-at-fjerne-lyssaetning/artikel/2772901#sportfyn -
Swedish Elitserien 2015, Round 14
Ghostwalker replied to Ghostwalker's topic in International World of Speedway
Yes and no. A team cannot sign new riders for the play offs but they can, anytime during the season, replace a rider that is projected to be out for at least 4 weeks. Then there is some limits regarding averages and etc. However Janowski's average from last season is lower then Darcy's average so that should be possible. -
Risk...acceptable Or Unacceptable?
Ghostwalker replied to customhouseregular's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
As it have been said already, reducing power is itself not a good idea since that is one of the current issues. If you reduce power then the bikes will struggle even more to ride on anything else then super slick tracks and that would be very boring to watch. The solution would rather be to make sure the bikes have more torque on lower rpms. As it is now the bikes requires more or less full throttle to function properly. If you don't give enough gas the bikes will lift or stop sliding with crashes as a result. -

I don't know about the UK tracks but 8 years ago Kenny Olsson crashed at Kråkvilan in Norrköping and later died at the hospital. -

The referee is having a bad hair day. Two bad calls. Superb pass by Michelsen. H15 Engman and Greg for Piraterna, Przemyslaw Pawlicki and Michelsen for Smederna. Possibly Zorro's last Elitserien meeting? -

No, muddy, muddier and muddiest. It's 300km mud wrestling by motorcycle. Quite often with temperatures around zero and occasional snow. Although not that dangerous but very very exhausting. -

It's the same story every season. Kenni finds good form and then becomes injured. It is the second time this season he is injured. At least Kenni could seat himself on stretcher. Nothing broken for Kenni but most likely a hard concussion. -

Risk...acceptable Or Unacceptable?
Ghostwalker replied to customhouseregular's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Nasty accidents happens at all kinds of track. Kenny Olsson was killed on Kråkvilan which is the shortest track in Sweden and it's very criticized by fans for being "dangerous" (too short/tight). Kim Jansson became paralysed when he was involved in a crash. The Henderson brothers were in front of Kim, they got tangled up and crashed. Kim couldn't avoid them, crashed himself and landed so bad that his spine broke leaving him paralysed. There was no airfence then but it would not have made a difference as the accident happened mid-track. I don't bike speed is that relevant. 70km/h or 90km/h will both be potentially lethal if a rides crashes and falls of in the wrong way. -

Artem Laguta have pulled out of tomorrow's meeting between Indianerna and Lejonen. According to Daniel Andersson, team manager for Indianerna, artem is too shaken to be able to ride. Dalle says that this have affected Artem very hard and that Artem isn't feeling well. Scott Nicholls will replace Artem. http://na.se/sporten/speedway/1.3123089-efter-chocken-laguta-lamnar-aterbud Chris Holder won't ride tomorrow either (understandably), so Adrian Miedzinski and Jonas Davidsson will replace Ward and Holder. http://www.corren.se/nyheter/han-kommer-inte-kora-speedway-mer-8512013.aspx -
Risk...acceptable Or Unacceptable?
Ghostwalker replied to customhouseregular's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Agreed. I also don't think that nothing is done to improve safety. I think while there is allot that can be done, it likely isn't as easy as some seems to think. Neither is there a fix that solves/covers all problems. I.e. Iainb's solution for plastic cladding for the airfences. It might prevent some accidents but it might also cause other severe accidents after which means that they are not a viable solution. If you want plastic cladding on the airfences, then you need to firmly attach them to the airfences in some way and that attaching method might also prove to be a safety risk. The point is that thee is no universal solution that can prevent all kinds of injuries. -
