The Bsi As Seen From Pl
BWitcher replied to PolskiZuzel's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Somewhat xenophobic as well. -
How is that relevant to the point Waieheke made?
-
Who said anything different?
-
That may be the case for you but it certainly isn't with the over whelming majority of other fans.
-
And you most certainly don't want that do you! Keep fan's interest, improve the excitement/enjoyment factor of meetings etc.. You're right, it's terrible!
-
It already is simple.
-
Never heard of the away goals rule then.. Cricket, Rugby two other sports that award points other than for just winning the game.
-
I've never met anyone who doesn't understand it instantly. Next you'll be telling us you tried to explain it to your mate in the pub and he was howling with laughter.
-
Which has nothing at all to do with the scoring system.
-
Never fails to amaze me the level of intellect with speedway fans. One of the rare things speedway has got spot on and still you get a few idiots moaning. The joke here is this post. Spot on, the system was perfect before.
-
Think you've got the wrong end of the stick here.. Try reading my post again, then tell me where I disagreed with Tsunami's post. I was merely adding flesh to it. It also highlights a point I've been making on another thread.. the size of a league dictates how good you may think riders are. The more teams.. the more higher averaged riders.. Parker in a 13 heat format would likely be averaging 9.50 that season.. expand that over a six/seven year period and he's remembered as a solid No 1.. whereas the reality is he was some way below the level of the 'real' No 1's in the league.
-
Assume you mean they had to take Shane Parker as their No 1? He averaged 8.54, on the face of it seems decent, but in a league of that size is way off what you need from a No 1. Robert Nagy and Scott Robson their other 'heat leaders'.
-
Yes, if they wanted to carry on struggling to make a living. Until the BSPA finally get the idea that it is ESSENTIAL to ensure meetings are packed out on TV the sport will never gain traction. In addition, they must stop Pearson from constantly telling folk it's a big crowd because of the 'special offers'. Never mind that. Just say it's another packed out crowd.. consistently give the impression that speedway is a place 'to be'. People are sheep.
-
Ah.. so it's ok to steal if other folk are doing it. As it happens, you're not anywhere near in the majority either. The overwhelming majority listen legally since the advent of services such as Spotify.
-
All I need to 'recheck' Backtrack for is to be able to provide some examples, as requested. Quite a simple concept. As for 'knowing it all', rather childish statement. It would be rather foolish to post about something I don't think I am correct on, perhaps this is where you are going wrong?
-
"Most of the forum"... interesting. I don't think a single person has proposed such a thing.
-
It won't be till near Christmas when I go back to England... I've meant to do it the last couple of times as this topic has come up previously. On those occasions a couple of forum members said they had read something similar, I think Grachan might have been one of them but I could be wrong. I will try and remember!
-
Have you moved on having learned something? Or just decided you don't like what you hear so you'll ignore it...
-
How can it be losing you? It's an extremely simply concept. If you have 20 teams in a league for example, you have 60 heat leaders. If you have 8 teams in a league, you have 24 heat leaders.
-
Sid, I'm not getting involved in one of your petty squabbles which always end with you imploding, wanting a fight and then getting banned. You cannot argue with what I have said because it is mathematical fact. The 70's was a fantastic era, nobody is denying that. The big league played a very big part in that, helping to create more star riders, not really sure why that's so hard to understand?
-
Sums it up in a nutshell... now had the leagues not joined and the top flight had continued with a small number of teams for the next decade or so, a great number of those 9-9.5pt riders wouldn't be remembered in the same vein.. Why? Because they'd have been 7pters.. not big hitting heat leaders. The simple facts are, and it is a fact, not an opinion, the bigger the league the more 'stars' you will have, regardless of the ability of the riders in question. No my first meeting was in 1979. Not that it is anyway relevant, you're trying to argue against Math Sid, and you simply can't. Iris has already demonstrated the difference a larger league makes. Do you deny that the more you see a rider win races the better you think he is?
-
Oh dear. Why did you think they were good riders? Are you actually following the thread? Who has said the standard of league racing is higher in Britain today? Not one single person.
-
You can't 'forget' figures. You remember them as good riders because the majority of the time you saw them winning races. Had they not been winning races regularly you wouldn't remember them as good riders. It's not a difficult concept. Again you are wittering away about the British Leagues of today, which are irrelevant to this conversation. We all know the British league is much weaker and it is the worse for it. Never fear though, Jonathan Chapman thinks excluding any rider who averages above six will see the fans come flocking back... Put it this way, it's like saying 6pt riders now get places in the Polish league easily....
-
Sid, you're getting confused. I haven't said today's paltry offering is anywhere near the levels back then. The comparison you have to make is with the current top level, which is Poland or Sweden. It doesn't matter how many riders you list, it's an irrelevance. In a 20 team league, you're going to have 60 heat leaders. In an eight team league you will have 24. The actual 'standard' of the rider doesn't come into it or effect those numbers. Throw in the fact the heat leaders raced each other a lot less and their status grows. I can absolutely guarantee a large number of those riders you list you wouldn't consider 'stars' if they raced in a similar format to that of today. Their ability as a rider doesn't change, but your perception of them and their 'star power' most certainly does. You only have to look back when we last had one big league, a rider such as Charles Ermolenko was an 8.5pt heat leader.. had the league stayed that size throughout his career he would be remembered 20 years later in a much higher regard than a 5-6pter that he was when the league shrunk in size again.

Now all of this I agree with. When JC was getting involved and promoting the Super Seven (think that was the name) as well I had high hopes. It's pretty clear things have gone downhill since.
