What Is The Average Age And Gender Of The British Speedway Fan?
John Leslie replied to mc1874's topic in 'The Way Ahead'
I'll buy into stubborn. I try my best at miserable and dull, but some people spot a sense of humour and refuse to allow me into the miserable and dull group. Not over 60, and doubtful if I ever will reach it. Had a Ford once, but not for a while, and no plans to go back. Watching Pointless - certainly. Depends which era of The Bill you're talking about. There were some hot ladies in police uniforms over the years... -
Belle Vue National Stadium
John Leslie replied to PHILIPRISING's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
No you didn't. It wasn't a question. It was an idiotic attempted trolling statement , that the stadium wasn't going to be built and b.) that the track was going to be narrow and flat. Idiotic because the previous 39 pages of this thread document the story up to (and beyond) the point where Manchester council confirmed that the stadium IS being built. It's also well documented that the track is being built as wide as possible and to the maximum banking allowed by FIM regulations. Everyone just pointed out the stupidity of trolling with a pathetic statement which was totally the opposite to the actual facts. -

Yes.....And of course the equally stupid comment.... -
Nonsense. Have you seen the size of the Formula 1 rules and regulations? The entire Speedway Regulations would fit within one chapter of F1's rulebook. (And no one fully understands the F1 rules either), but it doesn't stop millions of people watching F1 You don't need to know the full wording of every rule to enjoy watching any sport. Every supporter will be watching the same Michael Palm Toft racing next year regardless of whether they knew what his exact average was the previous December No need to scan it and post here. It will be available on the SCB website just as it is every year.

It was a rule they made a few years ago trying to encourage upcoming PL riders to make the step up to the EL. The problem improving PL riders had was that they could go EL on a nice converted average, then if they had a good season and improved their EL average, they weren't such a bargain anymore for the next season. So the EL club didn't re-sign them, and being saddled with a higher EL average, this converted back to a very high PL average. This left them trapped. The EL didn't want them, and their new average was too high for a switch back to PL. So the BSPA made a rule that any PL rider moving up to EL, could always be allowed to drop back to PL the following year on their original average. Take Palm-Toft as an example. He was a 4.92 PL rider and so went to Belle Vue on 4.92 * 0.6 = 3.00 He pushed his EL average up to 5.20 (due to the easier race format). No EL team wants him on 5.20 and if this was converted back on the same scale, (5.2 / 0.6) no PL team would want him on 8.67, so he would be unemployable. Hence the rule he could drop back to PL after 1 year on the old average. Of course this year we seem to have a new 1.4 conversion factor (though we haven't been told) so this could make him 7.28 in PL which some might say is a more realistic figure, though some may not.

I got a Jehovah's Witness advent calendar. It got to 1st December, I opened the first door...and there were two of them standing there.

Belle Vue National Stadium

I've made ones out of shaving foam and mash potato, but I think I've been watching Close Encounters too often. To be honest, my cake scale model does suggest the bends may be a bit tight http://cdn.cakecentral.com/7/70/900x900px-LL-70c52c4f_bikecloseup.jpeg -

This topic has attracted a few bampots over it's time, but you've got to admire this late bid for the chief bampot title. -
What Is The Average Age And Gender Of The British Speedway Fan?
John Leslie replied to mc1874's topic in 'The Way Ahead'
That yougov site is a load of cobblers Apparently Rugby League fans are Males, over 60 Cricket fans are males, over 60 Rugby Union fans are males, over 60 Snooker fans are males, over 60 Formula one fans are males, over 60 moto gp fans are males, over 60 Athletics fans (100m) are males, over 60 Athletics fans (200m) are females, over 60 I would hazard a guess that the people who fill in yougov surveys tend to be males over 60? (not sure what it is about that extra athletics 100m that attracts females) -
Birmingham Brummies 2015
John Leslie replied to ProudtobeaBrummie's topic in National League Speedway
This is a joke post surely? They could ride on the moon, but there'll still only be 90 points in the matches. Unless both teams are going to use their home track knowledge and score maximums as they battle to a pair of 75-75 draws! -
All Party Parliamentary Group For Speedway
John Leslie replied to New Science's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
I'm sure I read somewhere that MPs from the group had been advising about the work permit issues? Also as there seem to be 3 Coventry MPs in the group, i would hope that they would be working with the Coventry fans to save Coventry stadium and help block any planning permission applications. -
Higher! Higher!

It's all relative. When you're terminally confused and 250 years old you think the Beverley Sisters were formed a short space of time ago.

You're so right. Another annoying thing about farcebook is this teenies "quantity over quality" thing. On the rare occasions I log into farcebook I spend the first 10 minutes unjoining myself from silly groups like this where other people have been able to add me to groups against my will.
-
Bless him. It seems he actually thinks that I want to be bugged by Farcebook's 25 gazillion invites to candy crushing farmers cafe, youtube videos of skateboarding cats, and potential Nigerian brides with facebook viruses.
-
Where this forum falls down is that when I log on here I don't get 25 gazillion invites to play Candy crushing farmers cafe, a pageful of youtube cat videos or halfwits falling off skateboards, or love letters from Nigerians with dodgy facebook viruses. All i can find on BSF is Speedway discussion.

Pretty sure NL clubs pay their riders in full for away matches. There are no exchange rates like in the EL and PL.
-
Why does the lineup say "From" but then only list the actual 7 riders? "From" means a squad is being named, and the actual starting line-up with be chosen "from" those squad members. This applies in football not speedway - we don't have squads to pick from. I'm told from facebook that Ben Morley is guesting at No.1 for Cradley. So the line-ups actually are Lambert (guest for O Greenwood), Priest, Nielsen, D Greenwood, Sarjeant, Terry-Daley, Knuckey Morley (guest for Worrall), Greaves, Clegg, Perry, Starke, Williamson, Phillips.
-
I'd say it did work out. At the end of 1995 Glasgow closed down (like Birmingham) and Edinburgh lost the use of their stadium (like Cradley), so in 1996 a joint "Scottish Monarchs" team ran at Shawfield. By 1997 Edinburgh had a new base at Armadale and a Glasgow team was revived at Shawfield, so the joint venture helped keep both clubs alive.
-
In view of recent developments with Wolverhampton, I wonder if Tony Mole is just declaring himself out of running a Birmingham team in order to clear the way for a "Cradley and Birmingham" team? If I were a promoter looking to go into Birmingham, this is what I would do. To reopen a Birmingham team with a limited Birmingham crowd-base would be a gamble. But if there was some way to harness the Birmingham fan-base and the Cradley fan-base, then you've got something looking far more like a viable business plan. I know there's no love lost between Birmingham fans and Cradley fans, but now that Mole has pulled out of reviving Birmingham we've got a Cradley team and fan-base with nowhere to ride, Birmingham fans with no team, and an available stadium....surely however much the fans dislike each other, pulling all these items together into a viable club must be the best option?

Borrow Darcy Ward. Apparently he's often like a newt.
