Hackney Finished At Lakeside
THE DEAN MACHINE replied to cityrebel's topic in National League Speedway
dudley promotion do a great job with the supporters but the fan base has always been there even when there was no hope of a track return , 2 things matter in dudley ,a mosque or should i say the not building of a mosque and the speedway , go into any town/city and search for a speedway link ,its hard to find ,even before the rebirth of dudley you dont have to search for long , its in the media everywhere ,its in the black country museum and talk to anyone in the black country, its a big part of what put the black country on the map and that is not the case in other towns around the country, go into any town ask any one to name a speedway rider and they will say barry briggs or ole olsen if they have even heard of speedway ,ask the same question around dudley and its penhall, gundersen ,although the track closed in the 90s the club never did and thats why its successsfull today -
Hackney Finished At Lakeside
THE DEAN MACHINE replied to cityrebel's topic in National League Speedway
i said this at the begining of the season ,dudley works for a different reasons ,if you live there you would understand ,it is an area that dosent have sports teams to follow and is very proud of its industrial history and its history in general ,i dont think there is another ex track that can realisticly be sucessfull at another track ,but also wolves is a short car/bus even walk to get to from dudley all these factors are what make dudley work and hackney or any other team not really work .i really dont think teams riding at other tracks is the way forward for speedway ,although i fully support people tryng to resurect their ex teams ,on a tuesday night at wolves it is not all the wolves fans plus a few cradley fans that have come back to the sport ,it is all cradley fans and most of the wolves fans dont go, i really hope that dudley get a new stadium cause the heathens back in the top flight speedway riding against wolves really is what speedway is all about, i was at lakeside last friday and the crowd didnt look to bad for a national league meeting ,just another quick point, as big as dudleys crowds are i know of some cradley fans that wont go to watch dudley cause they think that dudley have pinched the heathens name , i hope the hackney name is not lost to the sport but i dont see it working any where else except at hackney -
Swc Changes Needed ?
THE DEAN MACHINE replied to Robbie B's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
only 2 things need changeing in the swc ,1st it should be made prime time viewing on every channel around the world cause the final was the most entertaining sporting event anywhere in the world this year ,it made crap like pompass tennis and cricket and bloody golf look like party political broadcasts and 2nd ,team GB need to win -
Swc Final Line Ups
THE DEAN MACHINE replied to Robbie B's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
and that is what makes gollob a legend,he knows how to make his bikes work ,when sky show gollob in the pits in a gp or swc he is on his knees changeing the bike set up himself -
Troy Batchelor
THE DEAN MACHINE replied to iNikeAguero's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
ward does imply it in interview and as batchelor comes back in pits after fall boyce does say something to him ,and batchelors reaction is a pissed off one , but why make a pass and then nearly fall and nearly go over white line ,an over locking bike is not a way to throw a race ,its a way to break a collarbone if the bike suddenly reacts and throws you over ,so i dont think it was on purpose ,but boyce made a bad call not using the joker earlier -
the elderly women was my mom ,and yes the poles were drunk but really apart from chanting and waving flags they well behaved ,it was constant throwing of bits and pieces for about 20 mins by the so called fans on the back row that just got worse and worse ,untill a full pint was thrown by the british fans then the poles retaliated, dont blame the poles for this incident

THE DEAN MACHINE replied to alan_boon's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
the polish fans were not to blame for the brawl ,the british yobs were throwing beer over the poles for a few races ,yes the poles were noisey but were having harmless fun ,the shamefull british few were just looking for trouble -

The Direction That Speedway Needs To Take In The U.k.
THE DEAN MACHINE replied to Bee's topic in 'The Way Ahead'
it really saddens me to see speedway going the way it is , speedway needs to be cheaper (all aspects of it ) .from a riders point of view the parts and tuning are way over priced , the price of jawa forks for example have gone up about 150% and yes steel has gone up but the steel used is cheap chinese crap ,and the price of jrm engines have gone up vastly but for no real reason except they want to put it up , buy a 90mm piston for any engine from a manufacturer and it will be less than a speedway one ,why? same size piston same amount of alloy , boots ,any sport £100 cheaper than speedway boots and they have less material. from a fans point of view speedway is overpriced , at elite level its not worth the £16+ for a meeting and the same for lower leagues ,the bspa seem totally oblivious to the lack of people attending matches now ,alex harkess said they are going to attack the problems head on ,ok the problems are speedway is going bust so what are they doing about it ,answer- NOTHING , next season the prices will go up again and crowds will get a bit less and the bspa will come up with some revolutionary rule thats going to save speedway but dosent do anything except add another page to an already useless rule book , speedway needs to take a huge step back before it can start to go forward it needs to re introduce itself and yes it will be painfull in the short term but unless something is done i really do fear for the sport in this country ,i wont name names or what part they play in the sport but the arrogance/attitude of some people in speedway is part of the problem , its a case of im doing alright out of speedway why change it -
this post is NOT having a dig at kyle or dudley ,more the rules , how can it be right to have a rider in all 3 leagues when riders like danny warwick ,terry day, garry cottham ,mark baseby and others cannot get a team place , i know how this looks to outsiders cause i do work for some company that sort of follows NL speedway abit cause of me and they think its crazy and dont understand how a rider can ride for 2 teams let alone 3 and have riders on the sidelines, and theyre not the only ones ,i am embarresed to tell them about the rules and the way speedway is run , it could only happen in speedway , and people wonder why speedway is seen as a circus (bit of a joke )its way past time for a change but i doubt it will happen

Where Now For The Heathens?
THE DEAN MACHINE replied to 21st century heathen's topic in National League Speedway
are you trying to imply that a decision about the national league was made without thinking it through first, surely that cant be -
cheers mate, i do find it strange how the rule was left out of the NL agm press release

hey mate ,thank you i think some people think older riders are creaming money from riding in the nl ,i can say speedway at all levels has cost me thousands of pounds over 18 years , last year i brought 3 GMs and a jrm , i blew 2 of them , i had a huge crash at newport which totaly wrecked a bike and what earned last year didnt even cover that cost of them , and i can tell you that 60% of youngsters were on more money than me and the others were on the same money , did you notice how i seemed to be in a lot of challenge/individual meetings the last few years ?, thats cause when the phone rang to ask if i wanted to do them my first responce wasnt "how much money am i getting" ,i just wanted to ride , i can understand if a team wants to track a team of up and coming youngsters, thats up to them its their choice but if a team wants to track an older team or a team with a mix of older riders then surely thats their choice aswell , a rider shouldnt be descriminated against because of his age , i know len silver agrees with that and so do some other promoters but unfortunatly some dont and they seem to have the most say, restricting riders cause of age will not make a new british world champion ,there are a couple of riders who could do something big in the sport currently riding NL and they got there with older riders in the league , but its when they go into prem/elite the bubble bursts, maybe the bspa should be looking at that and not blaming the likes of me for halting their progress , unfortunatly for me i care about speedway especially at NL level and decisions like this 30+ rule are doing nothing for the sport

name 1 younger rider in the 17 years of the cl/nl that hasnt got a place cause an older rider has had the place , if they are good enough they will be in , last year the isle of wight had a league match at buxton and we couldnt get a rider to ride at no7, there was just no rider availible or that wanted to do it , we got someone from the amature scene in the end and without being disrespectfull to the lad he was half a lap behind ,that is not good for the paying public to watch , in the return match buxton had the same problems getting a team and had to use another teams no7 cause again no one was availible or wanted to do it , i ride in the nl for fun cause i enjoy it ,its not about the money or that i cant hack it in the prem (which i cant but thats not the point ), i think after a few weeks when injuries start to happen the league will again fall short of riders ,but this year no one over 30 will be able to fill the gaps so even more teams will have to put in riders not up to the standered , again the paying public suffers , i understand this sounds a bit like sour grapes on my part but ive been around speedway a long time and see what goes on in speedway and imo this rule is just depriving the NL fans

'3rd. Division' All-time Appearances
THE DEAN MACHINE replied to Parsloes 1928 nearly's topic in National League Speedway
i have often wondered if there is some sort of goverment/lottery grant if they call it development cause i cant see any other reason why they would want to call it that , the way speedway is run that wouldnt supprise me -
'3rd. Division' All-time Appearances
THE DEAN MACHINE replied to Parsloes 1928 nearly's topic in National League Speedway
i have a couple of views about the NL/3RD division , first i dont think me or buzz or any of the older riders has ever stopped a young rider getting a place in the league , if they couldnt get a place it was more down to their ability than anything else , and imo calling the 3rd division a development/training or whatever you want to call it league is holding the league back , yes it is a league for young riders to learn and start out in the sport but speedway at all levels is a form of entertainment and the public are the wage payers, im speaking as a fan now when i say if i watch speedway i want to see great races not a trainng school ,i want to see the best that division can offer , i dont care if the riders are 70 or 15 years old , i just want to see great racing , i think their are some great stylish young riders in the NL but their are also some older riders that give good entertainment and surely thats what speedway is about , i know many promoters lost sight of the aspect of entertainment years ago but speedway needs them to get it back at all levels , calling it the national development league just says amature and dosent make me want to watch it ,so why would any new supporters -
i agree with most of what you say here, except me and you have worked in speedway long enough to know a good idea for the benifit of speedway will only happen as long as the boys club is on to an earner, imo the hackney idea wouldnt have happened if it wasnt for the dudley success, but the dudley success isnt down to just useing a famous speedway name and riding somewhere else , in the 14 years it was without a track it never went away ,speedway in dudley is big and has always been big always in the local papers ,it is almost a political issue round here and that hasnt happened to hackney,i think hackney will be a success at hackney but not this venture , for the good of speedway i hope im wrong
-
i just think this is silver/cook trying to cash in on the name hackney , they have seen what has happened with dudley and think its a way to make money , but you have to live in the black country to understand dudleys success, they have both been without a track for nearly the same time but they are worlds apart in fan base , there are 2 issues in the black country area which get major newspaper coverage ,one is the proposed mosque and the other is a track for cradley/dudley ,its been like that for years ,not just in the sports sections either, im not knocking hackney and i hope it succeeds ,but i just feel that some promoters are running short of ideas to make money and will exploit any idea they can , if it attracts old fans back then great and i hope it is the start of some way to get hackney back in hackney but i dont think thats what this venture is about , also i feel £12 is to expensive for NL racing ,speedway in general has got to take a couple of steps back and start to get people goin to watch speedway again and charging them alot of money isnt the way to do it especially in the current climate when money is tight for a lot of people ,
