Leicester V Rye House 12.08.17
Gemini replied to Barrow Boy 2's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Yes we must all be missing something as there weren't sun breaks years ago. It's all very well thanking us for our patience ~ heat 2 started at 8.15 ~ but a lot of us weren't and there was a considerable amount of moaning going on and it wasn't all from me. Not only is the match delayed so we are left watching endless laps by the tractor and listening to some boring waffle but it affects being able to watch the youngsters in the second half as well because by the time the match analysis is over those in the shopping centre car park are worried about exceeding the 4 hour limit so have to leave. A couple near me even had to miss the last two heats of the match as they had to catch the last bus home. Anyway, well done to the Lions on their win, which came as something of a surprise after seeing Rye House's score at Poole. Robbo was brilliant, KK not the powerhouse I thought he'd be at reserve and Bomber made a couple of costly mistakes. When was the last time he was excluded twice in a match? Racing not as good as it has been and heat 15 turned into a bit of an anti-climax after Chris was excluded. -

Arnie is keeping count. Started at 7.36pm. Darren Hartley apparently. -

Yes not a brilliant attendance but still looks more than at the majority of tracks. Dont talk to me about the bloody sun break though. Where Bomber fell was in the shade and the other 3 managed okay. Riders were out for heat 2 but called back in again. Better not be long as I am bored already. 😀 -

But lots of fans are still going so it can't be much of a farce. -

If you can't get there in time there is actually a buggy taking people to the stadium but unfortunately it's only the last bit, not from the shopping centre. -

At least a taxi would also drop you off directly at the stadium. I've no idea where the bus stops but probably near the shopping centre where most people have to park their car when going to the Speedway and it's quite a walk from there....for me anyway. It's probably only half a mile but feels like about five. Hope you enjoy the match and the cricket. -
Not necessarily true. Perhaps there are plans to have two leagues ~ North and South ~ using riders who actually want to ride in the UK. I really like the sound of this, with play offs between the top two from each league at the end of the season. I'm still optimistic this will happen while I'm still able to get to Speedway meetings.

Looks quite complicated using buses so I think your best bet would be a taxi. See what you think after adding the details. http://www.choosehowyoumove.co.uk/jp/ -
I can't comment on Rye House but there was a good crowd at Leicester last Saturday in spite of multiple riders being missing and the poor team Kings Lynn put out. (Two guests and rider replacement for Lions and four guests/rider replacement for Stars.) If that had been held on a Wednesday or Thursday I think the attendance would have been halved.
-
Doesn't bode well for Leicester on Saturday then as he's booked to guest for the Lions.

Well judging by the comments about the weather, also the post before yours saying it's on, I've managed to add 2 and 2 together, made 4 and have worked out pretty easily that it's tonight. I mean no promoter cancels 48 hours ahead of a match due to the weather forecast do they? Err......wait a minute......I'm pretty sure that has happened.
-
Yep ~ they definitely did.

Just for one moment I thought I was famous but then I realised no chance of it ever being me and Lucy because she's always out of sight stretched out asleep.

I wish we had options other than just the 'Like' icon similar to those on Facebook then I needn't have bothered writing this. -
Leicester V Kings Lynn Saturday 5th August

Yes and that's why I wouldn't bother going again after our last experience when the match didn't start for 40 minutes, followed by other delays. There's too much messing around these days. -

How did they manage it years ago? There were never any sun breaks then so what's different now? I usually have to drive back from Peterborough's Sunday meetings with the sun really low down below my visor. It's not ideal conditions but I manage to drive okay without hitting anything and don't pull up for an hour waiting for dusk. Incidentally I'm pretty sure the riders representing Kings Lynn were ready to race in that heat and as Halifax Tiger has said there was no difference in the style of riding once they did get going without the whingeing Aussie so it can't have been that bad. It had already taken one and a quarter hours to run 7 heats. I bet all those people Neil Matchin was escorting round can't wait to come back again. -
Hopefully. That's hopefully flash in the pan.

Probably because the Leicester riders are that used to referees agreeing to every little wim and allowing bloody sun breaks it came as a surprise when one told them to get on with it. Well done Jim McGregor ~ hope he comes back next time the sun is shining. One race? Don't make me laugh. I stood there bored stiff for an hour the other week when there was a sun break. -
Yes it's a load of rubbish. The Premiership team might want to go down (Leicester?) but the Championship one won't want to go up. Should be interesting.

The hundred or so fans who turned up might go home happy but the rest would be sitting at home because they're not interested in any form of racing other than league. Sorry it's a good idea but sadly wouldn't work. -
Sadly not much stays in mine these days. Anything new that goes in automatically deletes older ones as my memory database is full.

Yes that's true but I got the feeling after Leicester's performances this season it didn't really matter and the fans just enjoyed all the 5-1's. Not often you see team riding these days. Regarding the crowd ~ I think a lot of tracks would be pleased with the amount of people there tonight. Probably not as big as usual but still pretty good. Good summing up. Heaven knows what Garrity was up to but definitely something. He couldn't have been that unlucky to start 15 metres back three times. Thank you Mr McGregor for not allowing a sun break as the match was drawn out enough as it was with just 7 heats gone in an hour and a quarter ~ 8.45 when heat 8 started. I must be mellowing in my old age as I actually enjoyed hearing Peter York's voice again and thought he did okay. -
Ah thanks. At least I got the 'M' bit right. Thanks for all the details.
-
It's a shame you do that. I don't do Twitter but enjoy Facebook as there are some great groups on there ~ Nature Watch, Speedway, Border Collie, German Shepherd, Staffordshire Terrier etc., all of which I am interested in. It's not all rubbish and photos of people's dinner.

This must have been a different meeting to the one I was thinking of but I'm sure it was Middlesbrough. They refused to ride so Long Eaton's riders scored 5-0's in every race. Also at Long Eaton on a lovely June evening, with Ove Fundin and his wife present, the track had been over watered and the match called off. I can't remember which team was the opposition then but I know I was cheesed off driving over from Leicester for nothing.
