  1. thats why he was the best No1 in the P.L As been as Screm is neglecting his job today. The weather is great up here, slightly overcast, with the chance of a light shower.
  2. And it was probably a shilling to get and 2pence for the programme
  3. Queues down Shielfield Terrace right round the corner to Robert Smiths. Hope the queue isn't too big in The B&G
  4. I don't think the track is the problem. It aqppears to me that a simple concept, a single 500cc engined motor cycle going round 4 times in a circle or oval with a lunatic in the saddle, with little engineering involved, giving someone a cheap method of competing at speed. Somehow it has become an relatively expensive means of competition, with over tuned engines with and expensive parts, probably caused by greedy engine tuners and unscrupulous Promoters within the sport. Perhaps it's time to go back to basics, and have something like club racing, with everyone on a a standard bike, which could only be tuned within the scope of off the shelf parts from which the make is. For instance The G.M. Speedway series, or The Jawa Speedway series.
  5. I am with you there, last season, I enjoyed the hour before and the many hours after the meeting. It really was about meeting the everyone you have got to know, it still what does it for me that very specialness around speedway, in general what a fantastic bunch of people, and for that reason, it really is worth sticking it out.
  6. And, yes they did. Need more pissy heads riding in speedway :drink:
  7. To be honest, I think the P.L. should be semi proffessional, all of them should have a job and speedway should just be a hobby. Wages paid out have not kept up with the massive increases in the cost of machinery. I am sure you remember when the riders turned up with their bike strapped to the back of a car, chucked their gear on, raced, then went to the pub and got pissed. I wou;ld also hazard a guess. that you enjoyed speedway more then than you do now.
  8. Riders probably thought they were, then things go wrong and they have to put them right, at a time when they have spent everything they have. Then because things went wrong, they wern't scoring enough to earn the cash to put them right.
  9. Never said you were Alf, it was just a statement. As I think they will all sort out their problems eventually, as long as they are allowed time. I believe it has something to do with his exhaust valves tightening up, but like you, I am no expert.
  10. Alf, it does seem that certain fans are on the back of certain riders and so early in the season. Do you think it would be better if those fans helped the riders to solve their problems, than sniping at them. Although there seems to be some niggly problems with a few of the riders, it is still the most balanced team in the last 3 or 4 years. With the beggining of the P.L. fixtures this weekend lets hope they managed to sort them out. I am still hopeful for reasonable results, however I didn't see us vieing in the top 6, and still don't, but as long as we get competetive racing I am still a happy bunny.
  11. If it's any help, Steen had clutch problems causing him to spin up at the start, I believe he starting to get to them sorted out. Matej has suffered with under power in his engines cannot get enough speed out of them, so if he misses the gate he has problems. On top of that, during the winter I costantly warned fans that Liam would need a lot of help to get him equiped with reliable machinery, that really hasn't happened, so he will have difficulty competing on his old gear, good enough on the N.L but not in the P.L. Havn't spoken to Kevin, so don't know what the problem is but obviously there is one.
  12. Berwick 50 Newcastle 40 Could be a close meeting, on paper Newcastle stronger than Berwick, could depend on reserves again. Am hoping Matej and Kevein step up a notch, if so, we can carry bottom end.
  13. And I was beginning to think you liked me . You are sounding like the guy who said i could not drive a tractor. in essence, what do you know
  14. This weekend is on of those very rare occasions I will not be at speedway, going on a University reunion, before anyone else pegs it. Good luck to the Bandits on Saturday, should be a close one.
  15. I remember the crowds being poorer in 2005, I would say they were about where they have been for the last 2 seasons. It brings up the arguament that attendancies should be recorded as they are in Poland and football in the UK. We could then argue without conjecture because the statistics would be available. My recollection was it was a close call for the top, then we lost Michal Makovsky and Tom P Madsen to injury right at the end. I will argue, he certainly is not useless, he may not be a No1 but should make a good heat leader at Berwick. I do believe his head is in a much better place, and you will see a definate improvement. I think he will Dave,
  16. Every week you have a winning team, sometimes it's us sometimes it's them. Nice for your own team to win, but at the end of the day I am there to watch good speedway. I have that gut feeling that if Berwick had the best team in the PL, it would not drastically increase the crowds, an improvement financially for fans, surplus cash may bring them back. Thats not likely to happen in the short term. in an area that has low quality low paid employment prospects, A young Pepe Franc, Steen is 30 hardly young. Strange thing the club has paid heat leader money to 2nd strings in the past, but on this occasion claim they could not afford Berge, certainly an up and coming talent. What is lost is lost.
