Dont think that there will be any doubt about that... Also, probably raced in front of a bigger crowd.... The Granstand's advance sales look around two thirds full already so that will be 1200 or so already booked.. Easily over 2000 on the cards which should give a decent atmosphere and look good "brand wise" for the sport, for anyone watching on TV...

The National League often provided the best value for money racing in the country... Then it got stopped from doing so by lowering its level... A shame as it was very watchable and provided enough of a test for the better riders to still be a worthwhile benchmark in their progression....

Glasgow v Edinburgh Jubilee Trophy 31st July @3pm
mikebv replied to Gazc's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Is this genuinely seriously the plan? If so... Might as well have had it at Esbjerg... But if Sheffield pull out I suppose Buxton may take it on.... -
Why would they need "hope"...? Surely it is a "given" the track will be built as it is part of the planning consent stipulation.. ? The MP should just have been asking "when will the track and stadium be built?"...

It must be all down to pure luck....

I think the clue was in the interview with Allen pre race when he said "collectively agreed"... There would have been some doubts voiced I am sure going 1/3 given the evidence in front of them that 2/4 was the better gates at that stage of the meeting.. It was noticeable that gate two in every meeting during the week became the best around two thirds in.... Still. Second is a decent result with plenty more to come from these two lads...

And that's a fair old summary of the sport in the UK... Getting "any" Speedway on is the over riding priority for the promoters... The competitions themselves become an irrelevance given the way they get ran, so putting on some good racing to watch is key... Riders got a chance to earn a fair few quid and it sounds like a good crowd enjoyed a good nights Speedway... Which is ultimately what matters nowadays... No major sponsor or mainstream TV channel would ever touch it with a barge pole given its.operstimg model obviously,, so it will never grow nationally... But at a local level, at the right time of week and year, it definitely shows that a decent crowd can still be engaged enough to attend... In fact. Maybe it is actually the way forward? A home team v select teams each week full of track specialists to try and endure a good nights close racing...? The fact it can and does happen now adhoc completely devalues any competition it happens in anyway, so make it "policy"... Just sell the racing to the public on nights they want to attend... With the lads that bring the entertainment getting rewarded with the most meetings....

UK speedway slowly dying

It's a vegan scrag end... -
It clearly reinforces what the promoters think of the competitions they run doesnt it? Which is... It isn't about the competitions themselves but simply about "putting some Speedway on".. Which is fine... As long as they don't spend much time scratching their collective heads, wondering why tens of thousands of fans who still follow this great sport very closely, give it a collective miss most weeks... Because simply, if they themselves don't even look like they try to take it seriously, (and meetings being ran like the Poole v Brum one suggests that is definitely the case), then getting fans to believe in it is very improbable.. A shame.. Great sport, really poor operating model..

Spot on... I would also have only let those riders not contracted overseas to double up, meaning those who did have contracts elsewhere could be available to stand in for teams in the league that they didn't race in over here... But only for one team in that league all season, not every team on an adhoc basis... eg Sam Masters could ride for Wolves and stand in as a "guest" for a Div 2 team when needed/average allowed, but then couldn't ride for any other Div 2 team that season... Running a five man team in Div 1 would also create spare riders to be available from Div 2 to replace them without the need to share around riders from the same league... (Which currently destroys any hope the sport can ever be taken seriously)...

Edinburgh v Glasgow , jubilee thingy , 29/7/22@19-30

If only they had known the SON was on this weekend they probably would have avoided running any Speedway meetings ... Maybe the FIM should ensure their fixture dates are clear for everyone to see and planned well in advance? After all The UK promoters cannot be expected to be mind readers can they??? The Queen's Competition is devalued now for me... Let's hope she isn't offended...
