Well that blue groove certainly keeps shale off the dog track.... -
Wolves v Sheffield 7th June 2021

When I used to attend Monmore regularly to watch the Aces, and some weeks as a neutral when the Aces didn't have a match on, during the nineties, the track was always very grippy on the outside from around mid track, and made for some excellent racing... I think two fundamental things have changed since then.. One is the second turn fence being reshaped which pretty much lost the outside run on that turn, and two is the fact the modern bikes don't handle the deeper conditions well... In the last 20 years or so, the best meetings.have been when Monmore has been wet, which is similar to how Kirky Lane went, a track not to much different in shape.. Usually meaning the dirt is scraped off and riders don't ride full on gas and don't then have to pull sudden full lockers, which can spit them off around such a tight track, or snap chains.. As you say Doc Bridgett was a key factor, but for me, the standard of rider is too.. Josh Bates last night for example was taking about four goes at each bend to try and get round, and some of the lower orders of both teams seemed to be concentrating more on staying on rather than racing... Which will never deliver any entertainment, and provide what we had, which was lots of very strung out races... When the heat leaders rode against each other the racing improved but when any track goes from blue groove to grip within a few feet, it must very difficult to focus on much more than completing races, rather than actually racing, even for the better lads.. And given the way modern machinery seems to have to be ridden 'full gas' it must be very difficult for any track staff to prepare such a tight circuit with exactly the correct amount of grip to provide close racing without providing additional risks to the riders too... Edit: It did amuse me seeing critical comments from a Poole fan... At least the lads at Monmore last night didn't have to decide if they had to 'double' or 'triple' any 'whoops' on the back straight .... -

Nasty...... Hope Adam is ok.... Must be a nightmare riding a track so poor and inconsistent.... Blue groove into loads of grip... Two weeks ago we saw some great Speedway at the NSS... Tonight as different as can be.... -

Nice blue groove appearing..... Must be fun going from that to dust and then back to blue groove... Remember though, to be a World Champion you need to ride in the UK to learn all these type of tracks as part of your education ... Used to be a decent track in the 90's but I presume now bikes have moved on that shape of track simply doesn't deliver anymore... NB And Adams then? What an Ambassador for the Sport... Edit Poor track and even worse camera work.... -
And if the riders were NDL heat leaders then the Championship would be 'Donald Ducked' too... Which is strangely synergetic given the 'Mickey Mouse' aspect of how this sport can often be ran...

I would suggest barely any team places as he would only be able to replace another HL.. You would suspect PBoro is a no no and KL definitely.. At his level that leaves a max eight positions for him.. Batchelor/Holder Kurtz/Bewley Crump/King Schlein/Masters. Maybe Ipswich and Wolves will take a look and get him to cover their injured riders? Lets hope the BSPL dont allow him to cover both through guesting for both teams..

BIRMINGHAM v REDCAR WEDS JUNE 2ND

I think the feedback is so vociferous and angry because unfortunately Speedway Promoters dont have much "credit in the bank" when it comes issues like this.. When you have so many self inflicted 'own goals' such as actively letting riders miss meetings here to prioritise Poland, or even planning meetings in the first place knowing riders will be elsewhere. I would suggest it leaves many supporters, quite understandably, interperating this as "they dont care for their fans".. Hence when we get a "biggie" all hell seems to break loose as it compounds other frustrating issues.. I think if they stopped a lot of the self inflicted, poorly planned fixtures, being subservient to Poland nonsense, then they would have a much healthier level of support and appreciation from the supporters.. Given the levels of support that Speedway has I think most of the fans are on the same side as the Promoters and just want to see the sport move forward through an operating model which has each team turning up each week with the riders that they should do (injuries permitting)... Maybe starting to make that their fundamental priority would help the fans react a bit more calmly to issues like Wednesday's? And let's be honest, why would you actively plan in to make your customers cheesed off? You wouldn't would you? Yet Speedway seems to sadly make it some kind of 'hari kari' policy at times.. -
Cycle speedway allows the team (I think 8 points?) down to choose gates.. Seems to maintain a competitive edge to most meetings..

I am obviously being very thick here but. Why wouldnt it work?.. Currently after 14 heats each rider has had 4 races from every grid.. Therefore why wouldnt just swapping the heats around to alternate ins and outs work? Its the same outcome.. ie after 14 heats every rider has had 4 races from every grid.. Maybe it would mean some riders with two on the run to make it fit but you could track grade or do an interval to create a gap.. I am though probably missing something so obvious....

As a kid, I initially thought Rider Replacement was a very busy Norwegian heat leader.....

You mean running it like a 'business', rather than an affordable hobby/plaything? Spot on, if livelihoods were on the line I would suggest the minds would be a lot sharper and less nonsense would be allowed to fester... There is no deterrent for not running things 'properly' because the sport is built on finding promoters willing to lose money.. Which then means there can't be financial penalties as the promoters may then just walk away.. Even more so when those who may want to deliver such penalties will themselves invariably one day be in the same boat, or maybe have already been there.... Speedway (in the UK) is what it is... ie. Somewhat contrived,, lacking in credibility, and perceived by many ex fans as pretty amateurish on the operational and presentation sides.... With the ultimate irony being that a sport with such an amatuer infrastructure to it, probably has too many full time professional competitors which it struggles to afford... Best just accept it for what it is and either pay your money or don't... Either way, it won't change... -

Hear! Hear! Fans should have zero expectations from Speedway Promoters that what they will be watching would pass as a 'professional sport', or even 'professional entertainment'... How many years of experiencing this kind of thing happening will it take before fans (those who still go), finally realise they expect too much from the Promoters..? "Yer pays yer money and yer takes yer chance" when you attend a Speedway Meeting... Will the track be ok because it has rained too much/not rained as much as forecast/been too sunny/not been sunny enough/been too windy/not been windy enough?* Will all the riders be there or will some be in Poland/Denmark/Sweden/Somewhere else?* (with the express permission of their clubs who agreed to the meeting you are paying for knowing it would be a 'select' side being put out).? "Caveat Emptor" when it comes to Speedway I would suggest.. Keep your expectations as low as can be and you can rarely feel let down.. They do their best I am sure, and often for the love of the sport rather than expecting to make any money.. Well meaning amateurs who surround themselves with more of the same, pursuing an often expensive hobby... Whether it's good enough or not is judged by how many still attend I suppose.. Or possibly, more accurately, sadly, by that much, much greater number who no longer attend.. Bottom line is moaning won't change anything as plenty have moaned and walked away yet we still have the same issues now that have been around a long, long time.. Those who still attend should stick with it and accept that every now and then the sport will shoot itself in the foot.. * delete as applicable..- 175 replies

Truly amazing isn't it? Even ex Wolves riders who go there seem to not remember about it... I have racked my brains over the years to make sense of it and work out why.... And the only plausible and common sense explanation I have is that Peter Adams and CVS are actually "The Men In Black".... And before each meeting they say hello to the opposition, pull out their "light thingies" and "zap!" every rider from their opponents who instantly forget about 'Karlsson's corridor'... My tip to any riders going to Monmore this year is if you see the Wolves team, Peter and CVS, all wearing sunglasses, then get yours on pretty damn quick.. !
-
If only every away rider turning up at Monmore had some knowledge of 'Karlsson's corridor'.... They've done really well to keep it such a secret during all these years haven't they? Even the many who have guested for Wolves at Monmore over the years obviously haven't been told about it... And every live TV match from Monmore must not have been watched by any Speedway riders who have ridden there after it was broadcast... Whisper it.... "They will go in to the first two turns around mid track and then, cut the apex of the second bend, as close to the kerb as is possible, and pass under you, don't ride the inside line apex on turn one as you will drift wide coming out of turn two and get passed, time, and time, and time again"..... This message will self destruct in five seconds. ..

Having some major stock car meetings has definitely helped Kings Lynn Speedway... The stadium upgrade wouldnt have happened with just Speedway income I would have thought.. I believe this year Odsal has the World Final so maybe that will impact the KL finances? It does appear that a great many things help "subsidise" lots of Speedway clubs to compete, as the fan numbers dont always cover the costs, so whether fans like it or not, sometimes you just have to accept it and live with it..

Missed opportunities with live streaming

Maybe as a collective they could do it to spread the cost and share the revenue..? A Thursday night Premiership Meeting every week, with a Monday night one as well on nights when no Eurosport coverage. And then do a couple of Championship matches per week? Any revenue generated after paying the company doing the broadcast could be divided out to the hosting track and also used towards ref costs, medical costs etc for all.. Use the Geo blocking if they feel it will help, but as has been said, price it right and those 'local' will attend before paying out for streaming.. And on nights when the weather is 'iffy' I am sure there will be plenty local who wouldnt risk attending, but last minute when they see the meeting is definitely on, would pay for the stream.. I would have thought that on a Bank Holiday the Aces v Panthers meetings would easily have had 2000 fans from around the country paying £20 for both matches combined.. "Speedway updates" had over a 1000 fans watching a screen do nothing but update for both meetings.... Which shows the potential I would suggest.. -

He/She/They* obviously thought that it was one of their alter egos answering the second time... With a double header today, featuring two teams a fair old way apart in distance, it would have been an ideal day to stream both meetings.. They both got filmed so why not just show them 'live'? Both meetings for a £20 'special' would have had a decent take up I would think.. Due to the pandemic restrictions, for once, demand for tickets is exceeding supply at several tracks... So use this "phenomenon' to make some more money... While it lasts..
