  1. Spot on... Great Post... Classic example of a lack of promoting and marketing is this week at BV.. Due to all the issues getting fixtures planned they ran with two meetings in three days.. The result? Riders missing meaning Two 'Guestfests' and two poor crowds... You could say a blind man could see it was always going to be thus... However someone with Promoting and Marketing capability definitely would have forseen the resultant loss of revenue and would have taken steps to prevent or at least minimise any loss.. Maybe linking the two meetings under a discount ticket for Adults and, as it's the last week of the kids holidays, maybe let U18's in for free would have delivered two decent crowds? ... I attended neither due to the 'Mickey Mouse' nature of both meetings, however if me an my 14 year old lad had got in for say £25 in total for both matches I am sure to get my 'Speedway fix' I would have gone along and simply sat back and watched the racing not caring who actually won given the make up of the teams. BV would recieve less than 'Full Price' maybe but much better than the zero income they did recieve from me. (And they would also have got us both on both nights visiting the food and drink outlets).. We have attended the Colts this year far more than the Premiership matches with that simple view of (no disrespect intended) "its only the Colts so just watch the racing". And for a tenner in total for the two if us its truly great value.. Unfortunately you shoudn't have to view the Premiership (the top level of racing in this Country) the same way when you are paying far, far more for the privilege.. Deliver a consistent fixture list on nights that delivers the best crowd and you give yourself half a chance of being succesful. Ensure each meeting has credibility and integrity and you increase your chances of success several fold.. If World Class riders can be there EVERY meeting too then great. If not, so be it...
  2. A 'full team'? At a Speedway meeting? Asking for a lot there FF.... Worth getting some commemorative T shirts made if it happens though....😀 "I WAS THERE" etc type of thing...😲
  3. Not at all. .. I don't blame Doyle or any top rider for the shambles that is British Speedway.. He/They have to do what is right for themselves.. The truth is the likes of Doyle have outgrown British Speedway and therefore British Speedway should just accept it and move on at a lower level without them.. One night a week, two nights a week, all set in stone, will be great but adding more GP stars to the Sports weekly wage bill won't be affordable... It would be great to have Doyle, Lindgren, Holder, Tai, Greg, Emil, Nicki, Lindback, Kildemand, NKI, Magic, Zagar and the Pawlickis riding here every week.. But realistically who will pay them? It won't be extra fans coming through the turnstiles, that ship has long sailed.. The Agenda for the Top Riders is a million miles away from what GB can deliver so let them move on with their careers and British Speedway try and salvage what's left of the Sport..
  4. Exactly SL... When coming up through the ranks the likes of Doyle would want to race EVERY night to improve... When they then reach World Class their priorities (naturally) will change... Time for Britain to realize it cannot compete with Poland, therefore will always be an 'after thought' for the really top riders and go it alone... If the top lads want to come on board under British Speedways terms then great. If they don't, so be it...
  5. It certainly belies British Speedway's Mickey Mouse image.. Any non Speedway fan coming across a copy would ask themselves why they haven't heard of the Sport, given it must be so popular if their rationale is based on the standard of 'its' magazine... A Professional publication doing its best each week to portray the Sport in the same light... (Which let's be honest, must take some doing)...😮
  6. More Guests = Less Credibility.. Less Credibility = Less Fans.. Its a simple equation.. Yet the person in charge of the Sport has a 'better idea'...😨 Wow....😓
  7. That's the beauty of 'British Speedway'... You can guarantee another fiasco will come along the next day to out do the one previous...!! In British Speedway you are only ridiculed for 24 hours before someone else kindly relieves you of that... "You really couldnt make this 'Barry White' up" 2017 Title...😂😂😂 (I sometimes even think they must plan it this way)....😉
  8. This should be printed on a 6ft by 3ft banner and hung up at the next AGM... Above it should be written... "This actually happened"... Underneath it should be written. .. "If you were a fan of a Sport ran like this would you attend it regularly. Or, would you view it as so very poorly ran it simply wasnt deserving of your support?" - (Discuss).... Make it the Number One point on the Agenda...
  9. Tonight's meeting is a perfect example of why the Play Offs were designed in that instead of it being a 'dead rubber' late in the Season which could result in a poor crowd, it now becomes almost 'pivotal' as to who gets those important second and fourth places. A meeting that actually 'means something' and one which can be marketed as such... So what do the Promoters of the Sport do? Render it alongside other farces by allowing key members of both teams to miss this 'pivotal' meeting to ride elsewhere... Its a simple conclusion to reach therefore that says if 'they' don't see a meeting such as this 'important enough' to run 'properly' then why should the fans treat it as 'important enough' to attend? I truly now believe that (in this Country) the Promoters have simply 'given up', and accepted that years and years of leaderless, no direction, make it up as you go along, decision making has rendered the Sport 'beyond repair' and now just 'wing it' the best they can on a daily basis to (hopefully with a good wind) complete a ridiculously disjointed fixture list.., Hope they can find a couple of guests for me and my lad tonight to replace the cash I would have spent.... Or maybe a FR (Fan Replacement) Facilty will be granted...😉😲
  10. Could Peterborough let Bomber ride for Rye...? Seems they don't appear to mind letting their riders ride elsewhere instead of for them....!😉😲
  11. 😂 And Promoters will actually want the fans to take this seriously and turn up... A potential season defining meeting....😲 British Speedway at its best....😆
  12. And why not.? When you are allowed to do so by the 'authorities' then do what you feel is right for you... No No1? No problem, have a guest.... Who knows, it might even improve your team...😩
  13. Think Woffy has more faith in his machinery now which may have led him to have so many 'ragged' races early in the Competition... Second place seems to be 'ok' for him now and with Woffy's level of capabilty, in most races he can deliver that as a minimum..... The only one in contention going down the stretch who knows what it takes to get over the line... Could be the first British three time winner!!
  14. 14 wins in a row!! Well done Swindon. .. But let's be honest... Who really gives a toss?... What should be greeted as a tremendous achievement will never be seen as such because frankly who cares which select teams beat other select teams? It's all sadly utter nonsense.... Still, no doubt we will now move on to even more of the same nonsense on an almost nightly basis as we reach the end of the season...
  15. You really might as well give up trying to run League Speedway in Britain... Far, far, too far gone to save... It just stumbles aimlessly from one embarrassing episode to another.... "I want to bring integrity and transparency to the Sport".... Well that worked didn't it...?😲
  16. Wonder if Dave Gordon and Chris Morton are going to be blamed for this fiasco? Maybe they should put out an incredibly hasty press release stating that tonight's meeting is nothing to do with them...😁😁
  17. Is there a Speedway rider in the audience? if so please make yourself known to the nearest steward and they will accompany you to the pits....😀😀😀
  18. A Rule being scribbled down on the back of a fag packet as I type Star Lady..😀
  19. I seem to remember during the close season "someone" saying something around Speedway needing to have more integrity and transparency if it was to regain the faith of the fans and that was a major part of his mission...... Now, who was it who said that again?...😀😂😆
  20. More 'top riders'? More admission costs I presume to pay for them? How much to get in if so? £20? BV and Swindon showed in the past couple of weeks with their TV matches that a tenner and free entry to 'kids' will get you a very good crowd regardless of level of rider on show.. Not sure having more 'top riders' will deliver much better crowds than we currently have.. One thing a fixed night(s) will do though is cut the number of guests (cannot be in two places at once) so that has to be a positive..
  21. Spot on.. I saw Joe Screen make his debut for the Aces in 88... He was 16 years of age. .. That season Joe went on to quite regularly beating some of the very best riders in the World in what was (at the time) THE toughest league in the World.... Joe went on to finish 6th in the World Championship one year and won a World U21 Title... No disrespect to any of the current crop of 'young' lads but (maybe Lambert and Bewley apart) none of them could do in a much weaker League what Joe did all those years ago... Jason Doyle is the only rider I can think of recently who after a few years of riding 'suddenly came good'... Speedway is a Sport which appears to have no age barriers as to how good you can be but is simply down to the aptitude of being able to ride a Speedway bike faster than your opponents... That natural aptitude will show itself at any age but so will the natural level for each individual rider.. Regardless of what age you start racing professionally, if after three years of riding you are still not in the top league at I would say second string level or a second tier heat leader (at least), you are, in the main, not going to be anywhere near a World Level Speedway rider.. Good to see British riders given a chance but we need to be fair to them re our expectations of their careers...
  22. It does seem strange that teams go so many weeks without a fixture yet as soon as TV give them the fixtures they want to show on Monday nights it appears never a problem in putting the meeting on... With only Wolves (and their opponents) riding on a Monday, surely teams should be using this night to complete re-arranged matches..? Rider availability also seems good on a Monday and given each team appears on TV on this night I presume planning permission to race on a Monday is sought and granted by clubs? Better than cramming in meetings...
