Just what I was thinking! With Robert Lambert gone, and a huge pair of boots to fill, who could be better but Jason Doyle now that Swindon have stated they won't be running in 2021? What's even better is he lives on the outskirts of Norwich near the A47, so only 45 minutes from his front door to Saddlebow Road. I would love to see him at Lynn always been one of my favourites for his 100% effort style of riding.

I guess we have to accept it was just a matter of time before this happened. Are any other Clubs/Riders in the UK affected in the same way by the Polish rules? Now Kings Lynn have to plan for life without Robert and I wonder what "Plan B" is. In fact I wonder if there IS a "Plan B" His are mighty big boots to fill, and with the number of top class heat leaders diminishing all the time, will the AGM be the time to change the whole structure of British Speedway? We will have to wait and see!

Who's Shirley?

Thanks for that info.

Thanks for the excellent explanation. It makes sense now! Its unfortunate the GP's are on BT Sport which is a costly addition to my package, so a VPN sounds a good option to investigate next season, assuming we are out of this Covid nightmare.
-
Could you explain how this works please? I don't have any knowledge of VPN's and if I signed up for one, how would I access the live feed for the Speedway GP's and the Moto GP's which I also enjoy. I currently get Eurosport as part of my Sky deal, but have just cancelled BT Sport which I was getting at a special price due to the fact I have BT Internet. However BT have now increased BT Sport on the Sky platform by £4 a month so as the Speedway GP's are finished I have cancelled. Not sure what to do next year, so this VPN idea sounds a possibility, but not sure what it involves, and if it would work for me. Is there a VPN you use or can recommend that works for the Speedway live feed?

Polish Extraleague 2020
Bunce replied to racers and royals's topic in International World of Speedway
It started slowly, and I thought it was going to be all over by the half way point, how wrong can you be! A cracking meeting with some super racing and a last heat decider, one of the most enjoyable meetings I've watched this year. -
When Michael won the World Championship, I was on holiday in Spain. Desperate to know the result, (in the days before mobile phones and the internet), I decided to place a phone call from my Spanish hotel reception to my Dad who was keeping an eye on the result in the newspaper. When he read me the result over the phone, I leapt out of the phone booth shouting Yes..yes...yes! The spanish girl on reception must have thought I was mad! Great days and such a talent on a bike. One wonders just what would have happened, had he really applied his skill to the sport.

Swedish Elitserien 2020
Bunce replied to racers and royals's topic in International World of Speedway
So I presume the upshot of all this is that the only way to view Swedish Speedway this year, is to subscribe to a pay to view channel? No Swedish Speedway on Freesport then? -
Polish Extraleague 2020
Bunce replied to racers and royals's topic in International World of Speedway
I'm delighted that Freesports are showing Polish Speedway now, but are there any web sites giving a live stream of the Polish matches, or is my only option to subscribe to Premier Sports (which is too expensive for me just for speedway) or wait for Freeview to show meetings? Any advice would be welcome. -
Remember him riding in the Kings Lynn team in 1968. It was when I got my first car (a Ford Prefect) and I started to make the weekly trip from my home in Norwich to Saddlebow Road, after the Norwich Firs Stadium had closed in 1964. I used the same Ford Prefect to go and support Howard Cole in his appearance in the World Final at Wembley, and fortunately it made it there and back without breaking down!

Speedway On Tv And The Internet In 2025
Bunce replied to racers and royals's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
According to the Freesport schedule, they are showing live Polish speedway "Grudziadz v Rybnik" this Friday 19th June at 5pm UK time. I'm not sure if they have shown any matches before, or whether this will be a regular thing? I think Freesport, as the name suggests is available at no charge on most platforms? https://www.freesports.tv/tv-schedule.html -
DANNY AYRES BIKE FOUND AND RETURNED
Bunce replied to Speedway fan's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Thank You. I'll ask no more questions! If Danny's meeting had taken place today, I would have been there, but there has also been an awful lot of rain in this area over the last couple of days, and as I write, its raining here near Norwich at the moment, so it may well have been under threat from the weather. Sad times as we remember a great entertainer. -
DANNY AYRES BIKE FOUND AND RETURNED
Bunce replied to Speedway fan's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
I'm sorry I have missed the story behind this thread, what happened to Danny's bike? -
Steptoe had the right idea, squares of newspaper with a hole in the corner, held up by a piece of string. Just don't use the shiny colour supplement!

I often have a look at live web cams from around the world, as I find it facinating to have a look at other countries and cultures in real time. Over the last few days you can notice how deserted places have become. One example is the Trevi Fountain in Italy. Its a major tourist attraction, and always has hundreds of people in front of it, day or night, sometimes 30 deep at the front of the fountain. Have a look at it today, hardly a person in sight, really spooky! https://www.skylinewebcams.com/en/webcam/italia/lazio/roma/fontana-di-trevi.html

Well done Alex, congratulations to you and your team for the wonderful news you will be sponsoring the Stars this season. Lets hope for a great year for all concerned.

Whilst I'm pleased for Ronnie, I find it very sad that he had to raise money in this way. He risked his life to earn that medal, how many of us would have been brave enough to tackle a gunman who turned out to be a nutter? The gunman had already shown he wasn't afraid to use the gun, and yet Ronnie waded in with nothing but his fists to stop him. He will always have the greatest respect from me for that action.

Sad news indeed. I never had the pleasure of seeing Len ride, I'm much too young, but did get to chat to him at the Speedway dinners at Norwich. A lovely gentleman, who will be sadly missed by all those that had the pleasure of meeting him. My condolences go to all his family and friends. R.I.P. Len.

Very interesting. The boxer who got knocked out at the start of the film was a rather young Arthur Mullard. I also noticed Harry Fowler, seen in many films and one of the original "Army Game" stars. The lovely Jennifer Jayne also starred, I remember her from "William Tell" shown in black and white during my childhood. I was too young to ever go to Walthamstow before Speedway finished, but did manage to visit Hackney, West Ham, Wimbledon and Wembley many times. Although I was brought up in Norfolk, I was born in Ilford so have many East End connections.

Me too! At 30x they are gone in the blink of an eye. If I see another advert for that ruddy Peleton bike, I swear I'll throw something at the TV.
-
That's a pain. Means I have to pay out for BT Sport just to watch the GP's. Eurosport is already part of my Sky package.
-
Looked a great prospect when I saw him on TV. Would love to see him in the team.

I just had a look at the Google street view, and the first thing that comes to mind is the lack of car parking. Nearly all the commercial premises nearby have private car parks with barriers. I wonder where greyhound patrons park? Lots of yellow lines etc. Maybe the nearby football stadium would oblige by renting their car park? It also ajoins a golf course. I can't imagine their members would be happy having an evenings golf in the summer being disturbed by tannoys and noisy bikes! Having been involved in trying to find a site in the Norwich area for many years, my experience of something like 17 failed applications tells me it would be a non starter sadly. On a footnote, I've just read the Trip Advisor reviews of the current greyhound stadium, and many of them sound dreadful.
