Sad news indeed. I never had the pleasure of seeing Len ride, I'm much too young, but did get to chat to him at the Speedway dinners at Norwich. A lovely gentleman, who will be sadly missed by all those that had the pleasure of meeting him. My condolences go to all his family and friends. R.I.P. Len.

Very interesting. The boxer who got knocked out at the start of the film was a rather young Arthur Mullard. I also noticed Harry Fowler, seen in many films and one of the original "Army Game" stars. The lovely Jennifer Jayne also starred, I remember her from "William Tell" shown in black and white during my childhood. I was too young to ever go to Walthamstow before Speedway finished, but did manage to visit Hackney, West Ham, Wimbledon and Wembley many times. Although I was brought up in Norfolk, I was born in Ilford so have many East End connections.

Me too! At 30x they are gone in the blink of an eye. If I see another advert for that ruddy Peleton bike, I swear I'll throw something at the TV.

That's a pain. Means I have to pay out for BT Sport just to watch the GP's. Eurosport is already part of my Sky package.

Looked a great prospect when I saw him on TV. Would love to see him in the team.

I just had a look at the Google street view, and the first thing that comes to mind is the lack of car parking. Nearly all the commercial premises nearby have private car parks with barriers. I wonder where greyhound patrons park? Lots of yellow lines etc. Maybe the nearby football stadium would oblige by renting their car park? It also ajoins a golf course. I can't imagine their members would be happy having an evenings golf in the summer being disturbed by tannoys and noisy bikes! Having been involved in trying to find a site in the Norwich area for many years, my experience of something like 17 failed applications tells me it would be a non starter sadly. On a footnote, I've just read the Trip Advisor reviews of the current greyhound stadium, and many of them sound dreadful.

Ah... the great Terry Betts, lovely guy. But don't forget the wonderful Tomas Topinka who had 15 seasons with the Stars and scored over 6,000 points in 578 appearances. Both riders were also really stylish and smooth on the bike. Great times!

I did go to some matches, and it was very entertaining, but viewing in an almost empty stadium is a spooky experience. Going back many years I hardly ever missed a "Starlets" meeting, those were the days! Unfortunately the cost of attending any Lynn meeting for me now is quite expensive having to do a 100 mile round trip, and then programmes for myself and the wife etc leaves me little change out of £60 taking fuel in to account. I'm a pensioner now (it comes to us all) so I pick and choose Lynn meetings, but getting back to my original comment, I do find NL racing very entertaining if somewhat unpredictable!

"For the record in these deepest parts of East Anglia, Mildenhall speedway more often than not is better value for money than its higher League neighbours at Ipswich and King's Lynn!" Its funny you should say that 25 Year Fan. I was thinking the same thing! After several trips to Kings Lynn this year, where it was "gate and go" I got pretty bored, so had a few trips to Mildenhall instead. Living just south Norwich its around the same distance to each track for me. I must admit from an entertainment point of view, I enjoyed my visits to Mildenhall much more. Sitting on the backstraight on a sunny Sunday afternoon with some lovely chips in my hand was very enjoyable, and the racing was more unpredictable. Its a pity the track is so small, but I guess you can't have everything. I shall still visit both tracks in 2020, but Mildenhall wins on both entertainment, value for money and the best fish & chips!

With a miserable away record and finishing down the bottom of the league.......No.

Very well thought out post. Hopefully Robert will return, but if he doesn't then I can't see any great improvement in this seasons crop of riders if that's the way the management are going to play it. My gut feeling says we should have a complete clear out, and start again, but that's easier said than done, so I guess we just wait (not too long I hope) and see what they come up with? I'm hoping they can construct a team that really excites me, not just the same old faces again.

Thanks for that reply Rob, at least my memory is still working! I also have memories of waiting for my parents Daily Mirror to fall on to the door mat, so I could grab it and look at the results from the previous nights meetings. I would turn to the sports section, and there in tiny (very tiny) print under "other sports" would be the results, and sometimes the top scorers if I was lucky. How things have changed over the years with the advent of the Internet, and we still complain!

An I right in saying that the BBC did sometimes show speedway years ago with Alan Weeks as the commentator? It was in black & white and was pretty terrible!

I assume I can only get Virgin if my road has been cabled by them? In my case they haven't, and as I live in a village, its highly unlikely they ever will be. I do get BT sport half price as I have BT broadband, but as others have said, its an expensive way to watch the GP's.

Poole v Ipswich Play Off Semi 1st leg. 23/9/19
Bunce replied to Steve Shovlar's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Thanks all. It wasn't on the planner on my Sky box at the time, but has now changed. So I'm ready now. Will take the telephone off the hook, warm up the armchair, box of chocs and coffee to hand and may the best team win! Lets hope the weather holds out and they are both close exciting meetings. -

I just had a look at the BT Sport TV schedule on their web site, and Saturdays match at Ipswich was not on there. Where did you get the info from Skidder? -
Clive was a Kings Lynn regular and always gave 100% Very sad news that he has passed away. I send my condolences to all his family and friends.

Kings Lynn v Poole Monday 9th September (Not on TV)

I was probably at that same meeting! Just shows how weird and localised the British weather can be. -

So when did all this rain fall at Kings Lynn? It drizzled slightly in Norwich at 1pm today, and is spitting now, but hardly enough to dampen the Mrs washing on the line. Yesterday (sunday) was lovely here, and in the afternoon I was sunbathing on the back straight at Mildenhall in clouds of dust, so I'm puzzled how the weather can be so much worse only an hours drive North of here? Maybe somebody in Lynn can confirm that hurricane Dorian has arrived there! -
The best thing I've seen tonight, is Scott's shirt! Much more interesting than the racing.

Sad news indeed. A stalwart of the Stars team for several years, he always gave 100% and was part of my teen years spent at Saddlebow Road every Saturday night. My condolences go to his family, he will always be part of the Stars family and will not be forgotten. Born in Kings Lynn, and rode for Kings Lynn, I had the pleasure of meeting him in Norwich a few years back at a World Speedway riders dinner. I've only just found out this sad news, and wondered if anybody knows when the Memorial Service for him is to be held in the Hope Church in Norwich? I may have missed it, but would like to pay my last respects if possible.
