Ipswich v Birmingham 24th April
Arch Stanton replied to Arch Stanton's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
The ol size 10’s being stuck in to Ipswich again from all angles I see. Think we know how this works from here this season. It’s pretty pathetic to be perfectly honest. Time to take a break from here I think. Crack on. -

Wonder if we’ll get a Doyle v Emil final? They may be a little young to remember him, but for sure they’ll know all about him. They’ll know every time they go to the pits and see his Mural on the wall. Be sensible will be the instructions, but professional pride takes over and they’ll want to win this. -

Yes he does have that in his armoury as well. -

TBF Danyon knows his way around Foxhall and has scored double figures on occasions, taking some huge scalps along the way. He’s beaten a few top number one’s at Foxhall in recent years. -

When you have little to no chance of winning the meeting, then the thought process is probably why waste money on a heatleader when you can save money and bring in a reserve instead. Not great for the supporters granted, but if Money is an issue (and it’s likely considering the pre-season statements) then it makes sense from a Birmingham point of view. It does beg the question though how Birmingham managed to make Rew a “substantial” offer that Chris Louis couldn’t/wouldn’t match. -

I suspect Doyle and Emil will get four rides apiece like they have in the previous two meetings. Only if the meeting result is in doubt will they get 15. Especially as they’ll each be getting another couple of rides more than likely, in the Billy Sanders Champion of the evening. -

Couldn’t agree more with this. There is definitely a lack of variety on the Grand Prix scene. There should be a mix of tracks of all shapes and sizes to test the skill set of the riders. Similar to you and Lakeside, some of the best racing I’ve seen has been around Mildenhall believe it or not. Loram had some fantastic races around there. -

Especially once the season starts. You may get the odd nibble later in the season but you’ve got no chance at this stage, even for daft money. Riders have their season mapped out and won’t deviate from that. -
https://ipswichwitches.co/raceday-guide-birmingham-h/ Both teams “full strength”, for the moment at least. BSN streaming this one. Not the most attractive fixture with the result as near a home banker as you’ll see with all due respect. Let’s hope Birmingham bring their gating gloves and the Ipswich boys leave theirs at home. At least those attending will get a little extra for their money. A second half of sorts, with the Billy Sanders “Champion of the evening”. Two heats and a final featuring the highest scorers from both sides. 40 years ago tomorrow we sadly lost Billy so always nice to see a memorial. His 1979 world final Weslake on display on the terraces amongst other memorabilia.

Terrible for team spirit as well. Will sit in his pit bay scrolling through his phone and ignoring everyone. -

Joe T would have scored more especially around Leicester. Maybe he didn’t fancy it who knows. -

The race in question. Once Douglas got past you’d probably think that was that. Great effort. -

Agree, but at least they put a full report up sharpish which is more than some do. A lot actually. -

How quick away from the tapes is Luke Becker by the way? Absolutely lightening. Good little rider him. -

All very comfortable really and despite Leicester rallying and levelling things late on, never really felt the result was in doubt. A solid performance from the Witches, but there’s still more to come there for me. -

You could tell Jack Thomas was done from his interview from his hospital bed shortly after the crash. Pretty much admitted the crash had affected him more than just the injuries and there’s no shame in that whatsoever. -

Correct. Doyle WAS out as we all know, and Nicholls was the regular guest. Every eligible rider was asked to guest but none of them fancied it. Bewley took one booking, but apparently needed some persuading. You’ll find the middle order riders much more willing to earn a little extra cash. -

Has there been any rain Leicester way? We’ve had a fair bit down here last couple of days which was needed. Been such a dry start to the year all tracks could do with a bit of a soaking. -
He was at pretty much everyone’s press and practice day in both leagues. Spent several hours under the guidance of Chris Louis at Ipswich for press day also.

https://ipswichwitches.co/raceday-guide-leicester-a/ A track we have a good record on. Brennan goes well here too so that strengthens us around here. Should be a good battle as Leicester are strong at home but I think the reserves could be decisive. Thompson and Jenkins you’d think should comfortably get the better of Kemp and Hagon although Kemp has shown he can win races around here.
