  1. Personally don't think points system is something most people are that bothered about, problems are more fundamental than that people
  2. Thought Doyle's behaviour on and off track wasn't good last night. Is it me or has the standard of behaviour from Aussie rIders in particular gone down the pan lately. Can't imagine Jason crump or Leigh Adams acting in this way
  3. Oh for the days of team riding, is it dead? Surely Doyle lets Ellis run alongside him covering the gaps
  4. Way back in the sixties & seventies guests were often a bonus to a meeting a chance to see say a number one you only saw once a year replacing your number one. And we were talking number ones then ..Briggo, mauger, Olsen, michanek, Collins, Simmons, boococks, betts, Louis, Nordin, nygren, Moore, Jansson The second heat leader usually wansT bad either ...ashby, Kilby, Mortons, hedge, Then it worked I think But going to a meeting with 3 guests and r/r in your team renders it not your team
  5. Out of interest see below from BBC science "The simple truth is that no matter where you are in the world, the water could go either way down your plughole and may well disappear without swirling at all. If that doesn't happen for you You may find that water does indeed always go down your plughole the same way. If so, you could have detected the Coriolis effect, but to be sure you need to let the water stand for at least a day. You can read more further down this page about how US and Australian physicists tested the theory in the 1960s. Sadly the more likely explanation is that something about your sink is encouraging the water to flow in one direction. There are plenty of reasons why your sink may favour one direction: where the tap is (left, right or central) whether the water is at room temperature using your right or left hand to pull the plug." Sorry not trying to be pedantic it's the ex teacher in me .
  6. Years ago, riders use to smash telephones, jump fences to get at the referee, I once saw two Newport riders have a fight on the track right in front of me. All sorts went on this was when speedway was more entertainment than a sport first mind you. Officials were fair game I'd say Most of it was staged no doubt to liven a dull match but it does seem a bit lacking in these areas these days. I've drifted off topic a bit here but I think it's relevant
  7. RE Malcolm Simmons, wasn't keen on him when he was riding and after reading his book I agree about being a bit of a twit. His comments about some other riders a bit rich tbh Used to think Greg was a model professional, have changed my mind about him and although he's won multiple world titles I cant place in the same bracket as Briggo, Olsen, Fundin, etc
  8. As a Newport wasps fan first and foremost I have a different opinion of Bristol Bulldogs @ Eastville . To me our team was moved lock stock & barrel in 1977 we were demoted a division. With hindsight it looks purely financial, and good luck to the promoters for that there were huge crowds, I was there opening might out of curiosity and it was a occasion. Remember being fairly angry though, because one of the reasons we were fed was the poor quality or the track at Somerton park (which wasn't good by any means) was the reason for the move. So you may understand our anger when we saw the Eastville track , racing was a joke tbh. Having said all that I wish all the best to Bristol to get the track off the ground, but I'm not sure it will happen and I'm also not sure the massive crowds are there anymore. If my memory serves me well Somerset was a consequence of Andy not finding a site in Bristol in his many attempts. Edited & corrected to appease grammar & spelling police
  9. The major flaw in British speedway is that the promoters actually are in charge. What other sports do this if any? Too many vested interests if you ask me, an independent body should be governing.
  10. If we mentioning defunct tracks, Newport's Hayley stadium was purpose built as Caermarthen's show ground home. Both much missed by me It's worrying that so many purpose built venues over the years have been closed Says something about the sport
  11. Newport's Somerton park allegedly had 20,000 for a Great Britain v Soviet Russia test match in 1965, I was there but only 7 so can't remember a thing
  12. Crikey... Surprised nobody mentioned Anders Michanek, Dave Jessup, John Davis, Bernie Leigh, Dickie May, Geoff Curtis. I'm easily amused but I can remember turning up at Smallmead for a wasps away match I think it was a spring gold cup final 2nd leg on asunday afternoon , and seeing a sign something like" Smallmead rubbish tip this way" kept us amused for the whole afternoon. Good days though when speedway was proper speedway
  13. Very enjoyable meeting , also fair dos to wolves it takes two to make a entertains meeting and they have tried hard but not just perks bike on fire tonite. That was like aces in the seventies at Hyde road , you usually got thumped
  14. This is taking me back to the old Hyde Road, top notch racing It's not always about passing people
  15. Nevermind some British fans can cheer on their favourites now , never understood that it's not new it used to happen in 70s 80s where they would be waving USA & Australia flags ffs. I'm no tai or cookie fan but meeting has lost interest for me now. Just like if lewis Hamilton isn't in a GP.
  16. Dislocated shoulder from yesterday I think Least he's giving the youngsters a chance
  17. Stadium doesn't look that full, still 1/4 hour to go I guess though
  18. Well seems like an online magazine to me lol , very good No complaints from me Terrific action photos , good read Even some pretty lasses to look at
  19. I don't care about the GP, do about British speedway so here goes 1 no doubling up 2 no guests - R/R for only top three in your team 3 one main league then development league 4 no tacticals* 5 minimum 4 British riders in team ** * any rider can be replaced once by a rider on a lesser average , reserves as now 7 rides ** if no 8 from development league
  20. Speedway comes across as joke when somebody gets double points for actually doing nothing
  21. Tatum annoying me now with constant comments about it being a team mate which to me by default implies it's ok to cause a opponent to crash
  22. The beauty of speedway was for me seeing team once a year or twice like Wimbledon, Belle Vue etc fairly regular meetings ( I think it does become a habit for a certain type of person) I the difference between the so called meaningless open meetings then and now was the promotion behind it Promoters used to try to make them attractive meetings I think meetings should be at least once a fortnite on the same night It tends to men to me ...one big league use the riders that are available for this and build from there
  23. The beauty of british speedway over the years I've been watching has always been the variety of different tracks. Unfortunately there is fewer so less variety these days. As much as very body keeps saying how th polish tracks are great I still think variety adds to speedway. Briggo & mauger always used to say riding in Britain the variety Was the making of a rider. Off piste what has happened to rye house colours , a minor point I know but they used to be blue & yellow and quite bright if I remember , seem a bit bland now
