wasn't that the argument used this time last year? -

I'm sure Jamie was included as a link to the past that whilst unlikely to work did serve a purpose with regards to column inches etc. For that i think it was one of the better moves the promotion made. that's not really an agument to do someothing on the cheap though is it. -

To be fair, i saw no evidence that the track changes that 'have been called for' have happened on bend 1 or 2. It looked to me like the exact same track shape but with a bit less centre green. I'm to be convinced and i'm certainly no DH naysayer. I cannot believe anyone who witnessed the practice the other day would come away thinking differently. I'm there to be proven wrong though. I went on facebook to look for changes made to bend 3 and 4 last night but didn't see any. What i did see though, to paraphrase a comment i think (hope) was made tongue in cheek, was a post about Glasgow track changes costing £30k and taking 3 months and how well Leicester had done to make theirs in a couple of days and cost £200. Says it all. -

You would hope a promoter would be not so stupid as to not to if a point was sensibly made and coherently & constructively put. I accept though that at times there may lie the issue on here ! If you were to ask me then having a snapshot of their most passionate fanbase so freely available on here and to blindly ignore it is foolish in the extreme. If that was true and yours and Dave's view of their attitude is correct then it gives an indication as to why the sport is in the parlous state it currently is in. -

Hope we're both proven wrong in the assessment but i also think Kerr looked the most likely last year. -

I agree tsunami. My point is that i'd make a generalisation that this forum is frequented by the sports most passionate fans and for every person you describe above i think there are 10 members who have well reasoned views arguments that are worth noting. I'm sure whether they read them or not most well reasoned views on this forum arrive in some shape or form within earshot or view of the Promoters. As mentioned i'd be amazed if this wasn't the case that most look or at worst are informed by friends. That's unfortunate for us. From what i saw towards the end of last year i think Lewis looked a great prospect. -

I'm sure they all read the forums. They might say they don't but as a promoter could you help yourself but have a sneaky look to see what people say about you and your business? It reminds me of a US band i used to tour manage over here. They had a very vibrant forum about them and they many offshoot bands (one of which is one of the biggest in the US) with 2000+ erudite studenty posters disecting their personalities, songs and gigs on a daily basis and they always maintained that they didn't take any notice or read it. In actual fact when i toured them it was pretty much the staple conversation piece. Usually very derogatory about everyone who was writing on the forum but they clearly read and took in pretty much every post about them. -

Well said as well. I'm liking everything today!. That's the issue with forums. The context has gone within a few replies. Well I'm liking everything bar the alterations made to the 1st and 2nd bend. Is there anyone on here who is helping out with the alterations to the 3rd and 4th bend over the weekend. If there is, and they have a basic grasp of the laws of physics with regards to overtaking, any chance of giving a quick lesson to someone who matters before its too late for another season. There must be someone with a little bit of influence on here, Alan Jones and plenty of others I'm sure read the forum, come on, do the right thing, its not too late to still do it right! Mike the knight. -

I don't know about the riders but i have bought 2 season tickets and a sponsorship package on the back of meaningful track changes and a racers track happening. Heres hoping that's not the last they get out me as it's definately last chance saloon time from me! Mick. -

Not sure, but watching the quick riders today and looking at the extra track thats going to be available on the first and second bends, if that is the extent of the changes on that corner then I didn't see where there would be much more opportunity to do the overtaking. I'll be over the moon to be proven wrong but that's how it looked to me today. On reflection its probably a bit harsh to be saying this before Glyn has even turned up to do anything. -

Hopefully there is more work to be done because they haven't touched bend 3 and 4 yet and Im not sure if the the work carried out so far on bend 1 and 2 will make a blind bit of difference if more work isn't being carried out to the bend. Portacabins have gone from behind stand but is to be replaced by a permanent toilet block and track shop. The base was already down. -

Here's an idea. Maybe Coventry could even the teams up a bit by replacing Roynon with 'local lad' Lee Geary. At worst it might cut the usual waffle on here in half for the Lions v Bees thread. -

I for one am looking forward to it. You never know, we might sneak a win. However, in reality, we are more likely to get spanked. Exactly the same thoughts i used to have when aticipating Lions vs Bees derbies in the last few years of Blackbird Road! Didn't stop me wanting to watch it more than any other meeting in the calender then, doesn't stop me now. Last time everyone was making a song and dance about crowd levels was when we went up against the deciding speedway grand prix. Everyone was saying that would be financial suicide but it ended up one of the biggest crowds of the season. It didn't affect it one iota. Does the meeting & the football actually clash? -

Interesting that we have weekend meetings either side of the speedwayseries meeting (which is a tuesday night). A busy start to the year. -
the link is to kids on an Oset trials day. I see a speedway equivalent to this as being the future of electric bikes. I would have thought you would be able to set up mini tracks pretty much anywhere for kids to learn the basics of speedway at minimal cost and make it much more accessible for youngsters to try it out and get practice time.
-
I agree, I don't see it having a future as a spectator sport or as a replacement for the real thing but as a learning aid for young kids, 4-13, i think it's opens up the opportunity for mass participation. You could put a little track anywhere and with maybe 8 grand you'd have 8 bikes where the only real future cost would be for tyres. If these were runnning up and down the country and you were enticing all those trials and x-cross kids to have a go then you'd no longer be moaning about where the next generation of english speedway riders were coming from. They'd be hopefully loads of kids knowing the basics and raring to give the big stuff a go at 14 plus.

could transformer the sport

I have a 1/3 acre of garden but it's smack bang in the middle of a village so no way would anyone ever be able to use a motorbike on it. I've just bought my 4 and 8 year old Oset electric trial bikes for xmas (bought myself one as well!). They can spend any amount of time time riding them and my 4 year old is , in two weeks, probably at a standard it would have took him 2 years to attain had we been trying to find him somewhere to ride a motorbike. My garden is a thing of the past i think! If they can get junior electric speedway bikes to that standard then it opens up so many more opportunities it cannot help but be a benefit to development. I will try and bring them up to the next Leicester practice if anyone is interested in seeing them. IMO, If the speedway versions work as well as the oset's then having a little track and 4 of those would be an abolute must at Leicester. the one i have, a 48v, 20 inch wheeled trial bike, i have to say is an absolute monster on full power! Mick.

The pity is in the premier there aren't too many tracks close enough toLeicester to make it look like a deal even as a family with two season ticket holders. If the offer was extended to some EL clubs as well then Birmingham, Coventry and Wolves would all be quids in by my family making extra visits. -

Will that mean i get my preferred viewing spot on the 3rd bend back again. Every cloud an all that, fingers crossed anyways, won't they just take the 'hospitality' bits out that appeared to come with (was) the sponsorship deal. Surely Leicester rented the bogs before the sponsorship deal and will hopefully continue to rent some in the future (elliotts or not) ! -

Don't suppose it's really the right thread for it but it was sad to read in the Star of the on-going plight,16 months on from his accident, of ex-Lion John Oliver. Unfortunate for him that he was in such a weak team as his battling qualities and spirit would have kept him his spot in almost any other team i think. Made a great impression on my youngsters with his efforts at showmanship. I remember him making my kids day when they got one of his caps that he was walking around the stadium throwing into the crowd. A proper battler who deserved a little bit of luck. Hopefully he'll get the luck he deserves in the future. -

no worries Jim, going on past form i think you are a month or so away from your next witty remark anyways. Actually, i think i just explained it for you. there you go, sorted. -

Gotta agree, did tickle me also. Unfortunately, no consistency. Jim is the Villa of the Leicester threads and for every Liverpool post there's sure to be a run of Chelsea, Spurs, Wigan and Bradford City posts following it! -

I'm not sure why you needed to think long and hard about your response as most people who follow the Leicester threads will already know your views for what they are, well balanced and thought out. As someone else who also gets accused of wearing 'rose tinted' just because i think Leicester's promotion does most things very well, even though i'm very vociferous in my views of Leicester's actual track, i have come to the conclusion long ago that all it basically shows is the ignorance of the couple of people who constantly make these accusations. In that they can't be bothered to actually read anyone else's post bar their own in order to understand and differentiate the views of other people that post in the forums they participate in. Mick.
