Leicester Lions 2013
wandersome replied to Honey Monster's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
When we went to Sheffield last season you actually couldn't hear what the centre green presenter was saying from 60% of the stadium the PA is that bad. I think they just had 2 or 3 boom box speakers sitting on the greyhound track that you could only hear if you were positioned within a 30 foot radius of them. When i was in range the centre green presenter appeared to be almost obsessed with making cheap jibes at the expense of Popple. It was almost as if they were trying to show us how things were not as bad as they could be, Popple or not! Is the Sheffield PA always like that because it really did feel like something makeshift was in place? One thing i would like to see Hemsley look into is some sort of LCD score and time board on the centre green or maybe better on top of the 3rd bend VIP portacabins. I wouldn't have thought it would be that expensive to install though i may be wide of the mark. -

You're right of course Lionsden. However, a couple of questions you might like to answer with regards to debating (and the same goes for the other couple of people who are calling the Leicester forums for lack of any proper debate) 1. If you're constantly putting forward the same statement over and over again without any attempt whatsoever in either engaging in the responses it solicits, whilst also not appearing to have any interest in any other wider issue to do with Leicester Speedway that is outside of your statement, how does constructive debate then happen? seriously? and how do you expect the level of debate to not degenerate, whether or not you are correct in your assumptions, if constantly making a statement is all that you are appear to come on here to do. 2. If you constantly blame the people who's views differ from your own, accusing them of being 'bullies' because there would appear to be more disagreeing than agreeing with you, does that then make you correct in your assumption that they are 'bullies' or whatever other term you might want to use. Really, does it? Just because you say it's so? too right. weirdly enough, i just happened to be down at beaumont park when they were concreting the fence posts in and i remember that seeming to be the point that most of the people who were working on the track had the realisation that the track shape was quite as bad as it was. Hindsight is a wonderful thing but i don't recall thinking the track looked too bad until the fence posts narrowed it all up and i recall having a 'debate' with Lionsden on here when he said pretty much the same thing. Maybe it did need some of the people heavily involved at the time to have had a bit more balls and make more of a stance at that time but i don't recall the crap track being any part of the reason it all went pete thonge between them all. I do remember going straight around to my uncles to joke about how they had got the measuements all wrong and thinking they would be digging it all up again (not 3 years later though!). Nobrakes, Do you think they will widen it enough in the entrance into the corners if they are keeping the length in the straight. My reading of your post is that for you the jury is out. The widening of the entrances i would guess is the most important part but i can't see how the entrance can be made wide enough for that can happen without chopping a major part of the straight back? I'm intrigued as to what you know to be happening. Mick. -
Cheapest Speedway Admission In Premier

Totally agree Lions12. Hopefully somebody from the promotion has read this thread and sees the need to make the deal better value for money (ought to include a free programme at least at these prices!) -
Cheapest Speedway Admission In Premier

I've counted them up and i now make it 23 meetings (did we pay for the test match thing?) and 1 junior meeting (the only ones i can recall having to pay for seperately were the Karlsson testimonial and the MDL individual final). Either way, it's expensive and it would be nice to at least get a free programme or at worst to allow someone else to use it when the owner can't use it for whatever reason (illnesses, holidays). -

It seems expensive to me as well though there is a 10% discount if bought before the end of the year which makes it £297. To play devils advocate, In Leicester's defense they had 24 PL standard and a junior meetings included in last years season ticket (a saving of £40-£70 i think) and i would of thought that will the plan again this year as they try and maximise the usage of the stadium. With going on holiday and illnesses etc i don't think i saved anything last year though so it's a tough call on getting more this year. Mick. -

Lets hope LB and/or LK do increase their average or achieve a 3 at least. Worth noting that this time last year one or two people were mixing Simon Nielsen and Stefan Nielsen up when talking about our team and were mocking the thought of Stefan Nielsen being considered as a PL standard rider. Yet by the end of the season he was one of the most improved young english riders and i do wonder the standard he may have attained had someone given him a go from the get go last year. Here's hoping the Lewis' do the business. Mick. -
Not many places left. James Wright springs to mind as someone English and decent (if inconsistent) who doesn't have a spot yet (Glasgow, Plymouth or Sheffield would seem the only options). who else?

totally agree nightshift. I'm really looking forward to seeing some more convincing form away from home and getting some big away wins over the next year. The top 4 may not fire all together at the same time every meeting but out of that top 4 we look to have a couple of track specialists at most of the away tracks. -

I agree. that was the point of my post. My point being that Glyn would have been better ignoring your wind ups and you, being a Newcastle fan, would probably head off somewhere else, and life would carry on. I'm with Gemini in that i didn't see too much to get too pissed off by but then i'm not Glyn and you clearly pissed him off! I think everyone is going a bit over the top in some of their replies. -

to be fair on us Lions fans, the 'minority' was pretty much 1 newcastle fan with a penchant for trying to wind people teams fans up (which he clearly succeeded in doing). -

To try and get the subject back on Lions 2013. It will be interesting to see if our away performances and attitude towards some of the grippier tracks is better with this squad. We seemed to have lost before we started at quite a few tracks last year, Sheffield and Newcastle spring to mind. Doolan, Roynon and Kerr all seem triers and maybe this was in Glyn's mind when putting the squad together as he was clearly exacerbated at times last year with some of the away performances we put in. Interstingly, it's almost as though the team has been put together with the intent that we are able to perform at just the kind of tracks we failed so dismally at last year. Mick. -

i agree Gemini, though i'm a little worried it was my post that did it!. I do try and write posts that make for meaningful debate (though at times it does prove difficult). My last post was certainly meant as a dig at those who constantly dig at anyone who says anything posititve about Leicester (and Glyn's post was as positive as they get) but there you go. Mick. -

Even Mr mysterioso Hamish McRaker would surely have to agree with those sentiments! Cock on! -

If you read my original post you might see I was trying to convey blackbirds dedication since taking up the sport seriously again over the last two years rather than as a teen. But fair comment for once even if i'm not sure that's the object of your post. -

fair comment. Whilst i'm not saying they are going to be Craig Cooks, in common they are both late starters and are progressing at what would appear to be a fast rate of knots (accepted that Cook appears to be progressing a few knots quicker!). Also, from the distance of the stands, both Blackbird and Kerr seem to show the dedication needed to succeed as well (see also Craig), something that at times seems to be what is lacking in a lot of young brits. -

As far as i'm aware, both riders took up the sport at a late stage. I also thought Kerr looked really good at Beaumont Park as well. For someone who only started riding 2 years ago he looks a prospect and a half. I'm sure i read Lewis Blackbird hasn't been committed to riding speedway for much longer either. If that's correct, both riders are improving at a rapid rate, irrespective of their ages. -
I agree. I was just saying he did look pretty good.

Jim, it's worth noting that between Nov 17-25th you and Robert72 disappear for a week of this thread and lo and behold lots and lots of different posters were on here having their say and giving loads of differing views on 'Leicester 2013'. But then, Nov 25th, and you and Robert72 turn up again, take the thread off topic once more trying to bore everyone into submission by repeating the same thing over and over ad finitum, and everyone appears to have pissed off again. Before you keep bleating on about why no one posts check it out and see for yourself. I dare you. -
I thought Harley Horwood looked really good at Leicester when he rode after the Edinburgh meeting last season. He was riding around with Damien Koppe and I thought he actually looked the better prospect.

I agree. It's sad that although we've just announced a great team, which includes potentially two of the best up and coming riders in league (Roynon and Bjerre), our thread has been hijacked once more by the same couple of so-called 'Leicester' fans who appear to have shown absolutely no interest in this announcement at all. Says everything to me. -

Sorry Jim, you've totally lost me. Is it an attempt at having a dig at me.. what are you on about? on second thoughts.. no explanation neccecary. please. -
Fair enough comment Neb although as i understand it Flights, Vans etc can be included in a deal on top of the pay scales so this could be a factor in who signs for who. It's probably not straighforward to say if someone signs a rider who has refused to ride elsewhere due to pay scales they must then be not following the pay scales.

Embarrassed to take any credit for the guessing. I think our team manager may be too much of a fan to keep most things quiet and by that point i think i just about knew too much ! -
So if the Leicester manager says he didn't sign them because they didn't want to ride for the pay scales that is hearsay? It's not Neb, granted it could be false information but i don't think you can call it hearsay.

So why aen't Ryan Fisher and Magnus Karlsson in the Lions team.
