  1. Dave Jessup was TM for a while. And, from a fading memory, Wimbledon promoter Ronnie Greene
  2. DANNY Carter was another of Eric Linden's pseudonyms (he had many). Frank Maclean passed away many years ago. Frank Drake was also a pseudonym for a local journalist whose paper didn't want him to use his own name. There was a few of these for a time, something I stamped out when I took over as Editor from Paul Parish in 1979. Paul went on to work for TV Times (with Eric Linden and Dave Lanning) but lost track of him.
  3. THOUSANDS of British fans? Think that is an over-estimate. If you have been to SGPs in Torun, Warsaw, Gorzow you would know that the vast majority in attendance are Polish. Warsaw has sold out on at least one occasion. With regards to Grachan's comment about Wembley, speedway attendances there were often exaggerated, including 1981 which certainly wasn't 100,000 but had a nice 'ring' to it at the time and since.
  4. GARRITY case adjourned apparently
  5. SORRY, but I cannot answer that question. Have no idea.
  6. VERY frustrating... can you just check when it does arrive that we have correct postcode, etc.
  7. HAVE you ever been in Cardiff around 9am on SGP day ... it is already packed with fans from all over the country and elsewhere.
  8. HOW many restaurants, bars, etc are just a few yards from the NSS compared with the Principality. Thousands descend on Cardiff to spend the whole day there. Would not do that around the NSS. You've lost the argument, lay down and have a nice cup of tea.
  9. HE has been taking part in Leszno practice sessions. Doubts about him actually racing for them appear to have dissipated
  10. EMIL'S dispute has been resolved and he has clearance from the Russian federation to ride
  11. THE swathes of empty seats are cunningly hidden and not used because they have no view of the track over the safety fence, How can you possibly think the NSS is a better stadium than the Principality is beyond me and the noise and atmosphere, enclosed by the roof, is also something BV cannot match.
  12. ROCKET87 makes it his business demonise all things SGP and especially the Cardiff event
  13. THAT'S because they are corporate press releases and it is up to those using them to take the bits they want (quotes, etc) and put their own spin on it.
  14. AS far as I know BSI were happy with the 2019 crowd in September and may well have chosen the same month had it been an option which I don't believe it was.
  15. BSI do not have a free run on the availability of the Principality even in normal times. Last year's date in September was determined by the Welsh Rugby Union requiring summer use of the stadium prior to the World Cup in Japan. July avoids the Six Nations rugby and other commitments in Cardiff. Changing the subject somewhat, hopes for the SON to take place at the NSS in October remain very much alive.
  16. IF we had gold watches to hand out for loyalty you would get one. Sadly, we don't but we do appreciate your continued purchasing of Speedway Star.
  17. DO you mean RoyalMail? actually think that is a bit harsh. The concept of delivering mail from anywhere in Britain to any address in Britain the next day is both daunting and admirable and I suspect that pre-pandemic more often than not they did just that. We have added the names of our own staff to the subs list to monitor when their copy arrives and from my own point of view in Surrey nine times out of ten it is here on a Thursday.
  18. THE magazine is printed on a Tuesday evening and collected by Royal Mail in the early hours of Wednesday from printers. As previously stated, having paid for first class mail next day delivery should be the norm but right now it is very erratic. The only consolation is that so much of the current content is not dated and, hopefully, provides entertaining reading whenever you get it.
  19. IT'S frustrating for us as well as you....
  20. ANNOUNCEMENT about the 2020 British SGP expected from the FIM and BSI early next week...
  21. Poland’s PGE Ekstraliga took a giant stride forward in its restart efforts after riders, mechanics, club staff and officials all tested negative for Covid-19.Nearly 500 people were tested with no positive tests – a huge victory for the competition, which is set to launch behind closed doors on June 12, with practice sessions set to get underway on Friday. Strict controls to limit the spread of the virus have been put in place and foreign riders who do not live in Poland were required to spend two weeks in quarantine before entering Polish society. With this period now completed, clubs gathered their riders for mass testing – costing the PGE Ekstraliga 200,000 PLN (over £40,000). PGE Ekstraliga president Wojciech Stepniewski is delighted with the results, but insists there will be no room for complacency as teams and officials work to bring the sport back safely. He told the league’s official website: “This is great news and we are very happy above all from a purely human point of view that all tested players, mechanics as well as club employees, functionaries and referees are all 'clean'.But we will not rest on our laurels and we want our sanitary regime to work well in the next stages of the thawing of Polish speedway. There is nothing else for us to do but prepare for the start of training and then PGE Ekstraliga matches.” Measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus include matches taking place without fans, with strict limits in place on the number of workers allowed into the stadium and pit area. Riders will be limited to one mechanic each and the body temperature of anyone entering the pits will be checked.
