Tony Briggs How Good Could He Have Been.?
PHILIPRISING replied to Sidney the robin's topic in Years Gone By
WHAT"S wrong with using your father's name? Ultimately it would have been down to Tony's talent, Barry couldn't ride the bike for him, and as someone who has known him since he was a toddler I have no doubt he would have become a top notch rider. His biggest problem was gating but that would have improved. Incidentally, he still rides motocross bikes for fun in Poland and the US. He is very much a chip off the old block. -

BECAUSE they were sponsored by Faberge, Keegan played for Southampton (where the Briggs had their home) and Barry was a household name. It wasn't difficult. -

HE wasn't a novice. Tony had been riding for years as a kid and by the time he made his Brutish debut for Reading was quite accomplished. Before the crash at Coventry that ended his career he also had a fine record on the continent at grass track events, etc. Would he have been as good as his dad... unlikely, but that bar was set extremely high. But he had a lot of talent and would have gone far. -
MANY years ago the then Chairman of the SCB told me that it was easy to impose discipline on promoters because most of them were leaving meetings with shed loads of money in their car boots and the thought of losing their licence ensured they toed the line. Now, any threats are likely to be met with "we will close."

Cardiff 2018 21st July

THE cost of staging a meeting at an established venue with a permanent track is massively cheaper than at the Principality for example. -
WHAT has the GP Challenge got to do with it? It was suggested that BSI wanted Ljung in Malilla. He was chosen by SVEMO and why would anyone think, with respect, that Ljung would put people on the gate? Theoretically the SGP Commmission don't have to rubber stamp a FMN nomination but if you know of any occasions that they did not please let me know.

YOUR sarcasm and scepticism is showing its face again .It doesn't matter what I think but several people in Denmark, including a number of journalists and people like Ole Olsen said that the cost for the core of Danish speedway fans travelling to Copenhagen and accommodation (like Cardiff) was proving prohibitive once the novelty of going to the Capital wore off. And Danish fans, like their Swedish cousins, don't get attracted by a sub-standard home line up. No doubt had Nielsen, Gundersen and Knudsen been riding then an SGP at PARKEN would be a massive success. Neither Denmark nor Sweden currently have a superstar to put bums on seats and, sadly, there is no sign of one emerging any time soon. -

ARTICLE in SS this week by our long-time Australian correspondent Peter White .... pessimistic rather than optimistic. Would require state funding. What might help is if New Zealand also come to the party. Two events on consecutive weeks would make a lot more sense. Rumour has it that now Bill has secured the future of Western Springs as a motorsport venue he could be open to the idea. -

DOUBT whether you would get 20,000. Can get 10,000 into NSS with temporary stands etc and you don't have the expense of putting in a track (estimated at £250,000)... the perfect one is already there.
