  1. I had a spell of 30 years away from watching Speedway so wasn't following it when the switch from leather to kevlar came about. I do remember that in the 1960s firms like Lewis Leathers and Rivetts advertised thicker leather suits for Speedway than for Road Racing presumably because Speedway riders needed the extra protection. I'm guessing that Kevlar was bought in because it's availability in a wide range of colours, lighter weight and possible ease of cleaning but would be interested to know for sure.
  2. I see that Jason Garrity and Simon Lambert are on the Hot list for Elite league reserve places and wondered which team would take precedence in the event of a fixture clash. Hopefully it would be Rye House.
  3. Only ever been to the EOS for the BMF Rally where they had Sidecar Speedway and always promised myself I would go there for regular Speedway so it would be great if something could be sorted but if the owners of the venue are inflexible about regular race nights and if there is pressure from the occupants of the new housing adjacent to it then I fear it probably wont happen.
  4. Passing up Rye Road yesterday and saw a notice on the railings opposite Fisherman's Way saying "Speedway Car Park" so assume this is an overflow Car Park from the stadium one. Looks to be plenty of room in there.
  5. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong but don't National League Riders have to use the "New" silencers and dirt Deflectors which would suggest that one of the reasons there is more passing is that the Engines are probably less highly tuned and therefore more "rideable" than those at the top level.Regarding costs both the items mentioned are for a niche market with corresponding very small production runs in the greater scheme of things,so don't benefit from the cost savings of high volume mass production. It is also unfair to compare the cost of a bike exhaust which has to be cosmetically appealing eg have an attractive surface finish against something hidden under a car. Compared to other Aftermarket or OE Motorcycle exhausts the King silencers are competetively priced and also cheaper than the Main Dealer price for a Hyundai Getz exhaust system I recently purchased.
  6. I promise to take my personal raincloud somewhere else that day then.
  7. Typical! It's been bloody scorchio for ages now and I've arranged to take some mates along so a rain off almost guaranteed.
  8. Very sad news to hear that having turned his life around it once more seems to be in tatters.
  9. Or for those that might prefer to watch the Speedway World Cup at that time it gets another airing at 0950 on Sunday.
  10. During todays BSB from Snetterton in his build up for the Speedway World Cup, Tony Carter informed us that the "Sultans of Shale" were flying.
  11. If I remember correctly when the New Silencers were introduced the worry was that they would stifle the power output and make the bikes slower but I'm sure I saw some graphs posted on the net at the time that power outputs had hardly been affected between the old and new King but I cant remember if the torque curves were affected. It would appear that modern Speedway engines deliver their power in a sudden rush when they hit the power band in much the same way that 500 cc Grand Prix 2 strokes used to back in the 1980s and they were notoriously difficult to ride. At the risk of "Dumbing down" the sport perhaps the engines should be tuned for greater torque over a wider rev range thereby making them easier to ride. It might make for closer racing with the "Supermen" having less of an advantage but then again cream always rises to the top so maybe not. With the bikes being more controlable there should be less crashes and therefore hopefully less serious injuries although we have all seen riders get and walk away from hideous looking crashes and get seriously injured from an innocuous looking little get off so no guarantees.
  12. Met office forecast for Hoddesdon Heavy rain shower at 1600, Cloudy, sunny periods 1900 temperature 15 degrees. Met office forecast for Hoddesdon Heavy rain shower at 1600, Cloudy, sunny periods 1900 temperature 15 degrees.
  13. I think the reason the chairs were left untill last may have had something to do with the fact that back in those days the highly stressed Britsh Twins which made up most of the field weren't the most oil tight units. My mate always used to ask are we staying for the Oil Sprayers Race. Still a brilliant era though.
  14. None whatsoever, an ill judged attempt at surmising that the Promotion haven't had a great deal of luck this year. I apologise profusely for any offense caused.
  15. Best wishes to Jason for a speedy recovery. I cant help thinking that if the Management fell into a barrel of boobs they would come up sucking their thumbs the way their luck is running.
  16. Lashing down in Waltham Cross at the moment, about 8 miles from the track.
  17. But now the GPs are on Eurosport surely they are exposed to a wider audience. The forthcoming GP in Bydgoszcz was being plugged pretty hard during Sunday's BSB and Moto GP coverage.
  18. Wasn't able to go to tonight's match against Somerset but just seen the result and given that and last nights win away against Plymouth you have to believe that this team has the right spirit to go all the way. Well done lads!
  19. The Met Office Site is predicting an almost tropical 7 degrees for 1900 hrs on Saturday so not too bad. Have to say you are probably right that our depleted team might be overwhelmed by the Visitors but I'm equally sure the Lads will make them work had for their victory and it may well be closer than we think. It's never over till the Fat Lady sings and she hasn't even cleared her throat yet. C'mon the Rockets.
  20. We stayed to the end and it appeared that a "County" Ambulance was summoned for Simon. While the delays are frustrating it must be difficult to balance the cost of having enough Medical Teams on standby to allow the meeting continue after Riders have to be moved to Hospital against the gate receipts for the meeting. How unlucky were the team to have two riders sustaining what appear to be serious injuries in the first home meeting. Personally I think they did well to get the meeting on at all given the crap weather we have been having and wish all the injured riders from both teams a speedy recovery.
  21. I also think this team is going to finish far higher up the League than the Pundits in Speedway Star think they will plus there's the Exciting prospect that Young Jason could well be the England Under 21 Champ as the Icing on the Cake.
