  1. Who has Vissing signed for, this looks as though it might weaken the Stoke team.
  2. My personal view is that we have to strike a sensible balance. I think not allowing Commonwealth riders into the National League is not a good idea. The Aussies have been over the last 10 years as so been far more successful that us on the track, so why don't we look and learn from how they do it. I think that we would struggle now to match the Aussies for success, simpley because of the different sporting cultures. The Aussie way of life is built around competetive sport, and plough alot more resources into their, and Aussie sportsmen and sportwomen support other Aussie's in other sports look at Mark Webber at Speedway Grand Prix's supporting Crump and Holder. The best way forward is look at what the Aussies are doing and try and find out the magic formula, and picking out the best ideas and copying them or learning from them. Like I say we have to get the balance right to develop and nuture them, and riders will learn from riding against better riders, and lets face Australia have a heavy influx of good young riders who are keen to get into league racing, and GB is probably the easiest for them. At present the way I see it a Promoter in the National could if he wanted track a team full of Aussie riders, 1 Commonwealth rider and 6 with Dual Nationality. My big gripe is with those who claim dual nationality, for me these riders are having their cake and eating it, for me if they are going to use their British connection to obtain a lower aveage then they should commit their international future to this country. But I don't think that having a total ban of Commonwealth riders in the national League is a good idea. And I would further add about learning from the Aussie way, look at the work that Marcus Williams and the people that helped him with the Darren and Sharon Boocock Academy with young British riders all going over to Aussie and learning, ask the likes of Josh Auty, Kyle Newman and co whether they learn't anything, and finally I wonder why the BSPA are helping with the funds for this excellent idea.
  3. My view on this is that the structure is all wrong , and I don't think that we can call the National League the Development League. The main problem is that different teams have different agenda's, the main problem is that there is a mix of different types of teams, some are stand alone teams like Dudley, Plymouth and Mildenhall, other are basically 2nd teams for high league teams. With the case of Dudley they are a club that is trying to establish themselves, they are a club that needs success for (1) get fans through the door, (2) gain support to get a track. I think the big problem we have at the moment with the young Aussie lads is that the ones that are using there British roots as a way and means to gaining a team place. For me you cannot be British one minute, but an Aussie the next, if you are going to use your British roots then they must commit to this country career wise I don't think put a ban on Aussies is a good idea, I think we need to include them, still go with one allow in each team, but no rider from Aussie should be allowed in this league from Australia just because his parents, grandparents or great grandparents were born here. Also if we are going to take it seriously about a Development League we also have to look at the likes of Plymouth who track both Mark Simmonds and Seemond Stephens in the team is that right as well.
  4. I don't know what they did last year, but the year before they were searching everybody for air horns before entering the stadium, you could only use the airhorns that were purchase in the stadium, and they were alot more expensive than the ones that they were selling outside the stadium.
  5. Absolute cracking Grand Prix, and something I have been waiting for sometime. Surely Ole Olsen should be banned from all speedway tracks in the World, as soon as he leaves the Grand Prix the meetings get 100% better, and big Well Done for Tony Olsson for doing the blindingly obvious. Also enjoyed listening to Gary Havelock in the studio, never afraid to speak his mind and been brutally honest. As for the Brits, Well Done Bomber Harris, a semi final place and 1st Grand Prix up into 8th place is a decent start, Tai looked out of sorts and never got going, but his first Grand Prix, and I am sure that he learn from the experience. End of the day the best rider won for me overall, but plenty suggest that this could well be a very competitive Grand Prix series and I for one are looking forward to the next one, a long time since I could sauy that.
  6. I too have never seen that clip before, but it is truely inspirational.
  7. Its called money= top brief.
  8. Don't givw up the day jobs guys.
  9. Could he be the same Howard Cole, who went onto ride for Cradley and Stoke.
  10. If these reports are true then it is a very sad day for speedway.
  11. Well Done and like Superguest says looks like Sam Masters is a name to look out for, also looking at the list of scorers how long before the name Tyson Nelson starts attracting attention, although I believe that Rob Godfrey at Scunthorpe has already spoken to him.
  12. I got my copy on Christmas, young Spin Junior bought it me, and it was a really good read, when Len eventually leaves speedway the sport will have lost a great character. I was very pleased to see that the profits for the book were going to the Ben Fund, Well Done to all concern.
  13. Cannot you and your ex please not air you dirty laundry on a public forum, try PM each other rather dragging out yet another one your many disagreements out into the public domain. Or at least have the common decency to make a thread that warns us that we have to read this rubbish, and try and show some dignity for your daughter.
  14. I think that Tai Woffenden is a good choice, but do think that Bomber can consider himself to be very lucky, the other two are really no brainers.
  15. Really looking forward to the Malcolm Simmons column, I thought it was excellent and very current, I hope the Bruce Penhall one is better, either way I look forward to this excellent publication.
  16. To be honest I thought it was Gary Havelock who said that, but not to worry who said it they got it completely right, Ole Olsen is killing the sport, totally one dimensional and void of ideas on track preparation.
  17. I think that he is a bright intelligent young lad, and after listening to him on Sky I think that he would have the correct mental attitude to cope with it,the thing that would need to do is surround himself with the correct people, and I am sure that would happen.
  18. I think that if GB are to be given two wild card entries, then I think that two new riders should be given a chance , so I would go for Tai Woffenden and Lee Richardson, but who knows maybe the organisers will not choose any British riders.
  19. GREEN, Randy - Born: Great Falls, U.S.A. 25 July 1964 Signed by Hackney as an unknown in 1987 and after losing his place in the London side, moved north to Bradford. Found himself surplus to requirements at Odsal during 1988 and figured in a mid season move to Sheffield. Rode in six official fixtures for the Tigers and although his spell was interrupted by injury he proved to be a popular member of the team. Failed to win another team place in Britain after the Tigers closed at the end of the season. Matches Rides Points Bonus Total Average 6 19 16 3 19 4.00 Might jog your memory.
  20. I love the magazine in its present format, to take it on the net would not be for, and I would not have the patience to read it, love the Rod Haynes column, and how about interview some of the present day riders who rode in the 80's that are still riding, and find out what they find different, Paul Fry,Mark Burrows,Gary Havelock and it would be very interesting to hear the views of Andy Silver. Also how about a feature on Polish riders, akin to the one for the USA riders, could do the same for the Swedes, Danes, Aussies and the Czech's. I totally disagree that the magazine has run out of things to discuss, and I still think that it an excellent publication.
  21. Read what went off, and what is the problem, Scott said he wanted to ride, Rob Lyon tells him not good idea.
  22. Who knows, but Scott was announced as captain when the squad was announced so one would presume that he was the squad captain. I would have expected Scott to assume the role that Lee took on at Peterborough, and I think that the only two people that know why Scott was not at Peterborough are him and Rob Lyon.
  23. The one thing that you are guaranteed with Lee Richardson is when the Team GB body colour comes out you tend to get the best out of him, more than any other rider in recent years and very rarely lets us down. The one thing that has come out with this years competition has been his leadership skills, and his acceptance of what we need to do as a Nation and his willingness to step aside for the sake of the future of British speedway. This time we had Scott Nicholls as captain of the Team GB squad and Chris Harris as the captain of Team GB,maybe it is time to give Lee the job, and I am sure that it has not gone unnoticed with Rob Lyon I hope.
  24. Should Rob Lyon have picked Scott Nicholls. I like Scott, but this season, he has looked off form, and disinterest, if you look at his body language it gives you the impression that he is rider who is not happy. Did he need the World Team Cup as an extra pressure, where lets face it he would have been expected to lead the team, did he need it was he capable of it, I genuinely think that he was not, and I think that if asked Scott himself he would tell he was not either. Onto Rob Lyon, the one thing that impressed me, was how cool and calm his approach is,does not appear to lose his cool and very calm. The one thing that appears to have instilled with the riders is teamwork, over the period that the team were in the competition they actually looked and acted like a team, even the riders who were dropped or were not included in the first meeting were there to give support and advice which is a good sign. I have seen alot about the so called feud between Scott and Bomber, I don't think it was there.and if it was it not their any longer. I remember seeing Bomber have a nasty accident in the practice session for one of the Grand Prix, one the first people to go over to see to Bomber was Scott, not the actions of two feuding riders. What everyone in this country has to grip on is that we have fallen way behind other Nations, what is needed is new ideas and a,new approach,we need to introduce new blood, young hungry riders. We have to accept that on occasions we might sink, but the main thing that we need to accept is that success will not happen over night, and regardless who is in charge be it Rob Lyon, Rosco, Middlo or the Queen of Sheba its going to take time. I have to say that in Rob Lyon we have in my opinion got the right man for the job,to replace him would be wrong, the guy has improved the standing of Team GB, it might only be small steps but that is what it will take I am afraid, and anyone who thinks that other could make a better job of is deluded.
