That era it is not living in yesteryear, really was a incredible time for the sport ultra competetive.( ie riders like E Boocock, Ashby,Betts, (ect) they're world final records uninspiring but they were all great riders in they're own right a special time for the sport.

What was Charlie like as a bloke? a terrific rider as for Jimmy Mac i have so much respect for that bloke a top pro he was one of a few blokes who could beat Briggo in his heyday.Beaton was another rider i enjoyed watching a very exciting rider Lawson another legend MR Glasgow.

1971 really sticks out for me as i can remember my uncle being gutted by Briggo being eliminated. This after he had qualified 17 years on the trot for the final what a record a LEGEND the greatest for me.1972 i am convinced he would of won the final he had licked Ivan early on maybe Ole would of beaten him?.But 14 would of been more than anough one of my big disappointments in speedway that he did not equal Ove's record.

Monk did have an incredible career, never mentioned really but he was a force up until the late 60s.I actually got his autograph when riding for Halifax, at the time was so chuffed as apparently he was a quiet man a bit moody never smiled so it was a feat to get it.Back to Airey he only reached one world final 1971 (8th) reserve in 72 it just shows at that time how tough those old Nordic finals European finals (at Hampden Park? a few times)were to qualify out of.

Many more meetings like that and they're soon wouldn't be any speedway in Britain, in a nutshell dreadfull a borefest. As for the Wembley finals they were not the best had some isolated good racing but boy what an experience anybody who went will tell you that the excitement atmosphere nothing comes to close to that now never will.As for Tai was chuffed for him, i hope he kicks on and mounts a strong defence of his title.Has his problems got anything to do with Peter Johns?i wonder( ie) he has also got alot of other clients to tune for does he get preference as a world champion.

Absolute garbage what a shocking meeting,so boring not a great advert for the sport this track reminds me of Hull.

Was going through all my records, i personally only see Jim ride once how good was he.?Would be nice to know from people who see more of Jim his premature retirement robbed us i believe. His record on the big tracks is superb and by all accounts he took some beating at the Sydney show ground. Any thoughts.!

Terrible news and my best wishes go to Malcolm and June. What a stylist he was,he made riding speedway look so easy in my lifetime in that respect Leigh Adams only comes close.A great rider who was about in a terrific era, the speedway fraternity are rooting for you.

Very enjoyable tonight, some excellent racing god didnt Puk take some chances really found some speed right near the fence takes a lot of bottle that.

He had some great CL races with Malc Holloway, awesome i think Malc scored 20 in one meeting Burrows was tough and gutsy but fair and great value.

Where Is British Speedway Going.
stratton replied to mc1874's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
I am very surprised Matt , you surely are not that naive,if you go out with a couple of mates have a beer and debate sometimes we all tend to be bias have an agenda do you not think.?We all need that middle man person to intervene if this happened in speedway i believe over a period the sport would improve. The promoters pay the bills and put they're reputations on the line but if they're was a TOGETHERNESS in all leagues ( which we all know is sadly lacking) things could really improve but it will never happen in my lifetime. -
These rules are killing the sport, do we all know them all?i think it will be great if Lambert goes to Newcastle. He will learn because Newcastle is a tough track to master and a number of great/ good riders have progressed at this club.Lambert this bloke i really rate he has not proved anything yet but he is exciting a raw talent .ROSEN ( who i rate will be back) and Henry a great club man and a decent PL rider who is capable of popping out and beating the best i feel for him but the management have been bold i don't agree with them but i admire them having the balls to make big changes.
-
Nothing to do with ambition, they're are not anough meeting's in the EL that's even if you are lucky anough to have a club in Sweden and Poland. The bills have to be paid and Cook for example is a very ambitious man but he wants to keep busy and odviously earn money.I believe the PL has the best product now in Britain, with hopefully more of the likes of King joining it will even make it stronger.

I wondered by changing back to the Friday night slot, that will surely suit the Scunny lads alot more.Certainly Auty will enjoy it,will the promotion be able to keep the grip on the track alot longer making the entertainment value even better. And by all accounts this year there has been some great action as usual are SKY visiting this year?I hope so in my opinion the BRITISH FINAL should be at this venue or Sheffield/Somerset fed up with with Wolverhampton getting it every year.

I personally think he will cope with the EL ok he might struggle with some of the tracks but talent wise he will be fine,Is this year also a big year for him is he doing his studies?so has he the time to do NL and PL with his German commitments? -
Riders Who Draw In The Crowds
stratton replied to ColinMills's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
I think he rode for Wolves in 76 he did double up, i just felt his heart was not in the BL he averaged 4.95 mainly in the top five not bad and he certainly was a BL rider.J.Owen was a star no doubt Jackson,Etheridge, and Lawson stood out as stars for me in that sphere. -

Cook if he wanted to?it is a bit to soon for him maybe he would be out of his debth at TIMES but at times he would be competetive because he is fast and can gate. -
Adams,Sigalos,Jessup,Sanders,Carter are all riders who could of won the WC but for some all different reasons didnt i would place DJ behind all of them named.
